shaping the wedge, never thought of that, good idea, I'm doin it next time. I usually crack 'em pounding it in. I got an old axe head I found, made in tennessee, 3.25 lbs, (Hartwell Brothers, Grey Gorge) I want to do a 36" handle, I like straight handles, just me tho', that is a bada$$ axe head, yeah those scandinavian designs are more intelligent.

sdelony Buckin has good technique a fluid swing and very accurate with his hits. Buckin touched on the fact that it's premium wood for splitting being straight grained and soft. With wood like that you can dang near split with a hatchet not taking anything away from Buckin of course that fir splits super easy and looks even easier when a guy or gal really knows how to use an axe. Fact is that type of wood with all things being equal makes a chainsaw look faster and splitting look easy.
