I think Ford really killed it with the new Bronco Sport. I do wish you could get the 2.0 in other trims than the Badlands.

I echo SO much of what you said. After a ton of research I ended up with the red bronco sport (outer banks 1.5 L). I absolutely love it and think it has the PERFECT balance between luxury, comfort, off road capability, and safety for the average relatively outdoorsy person. I am a previous Ford Escape owner who purchased the bronco sport because I needed that 4x4 and my escape model didn’t have it…. I find that the bronco sport outer banks takes the style and comfort benefits of BOTH the escape AND the bronco but retains the most desired features of each to strike the perfect balance. The 1.5 is perfectly capable in snow, sand and gravel but benefits in the Highway economy of the 1.5 efficiency for being a great, reasonable family or commuter vehicle in addition to its terrain abilities. TLDR: if you are someone that wants versatility and the ability to push some off road terrain capabilities BUT also wants sound economy for a reasonable commuter in the SAME vehicle, the bronco sport outer banks is fantastic. If you lean more towards luxury, commuter and comfort focused vehicles the outer banks is perfect. If you lean more towards needing a truly rough and rugged mountain vehicle, the badlands is the option for you. Either way the bronco sport has trim levels that appeal to someone that wants the “best of both worlds” from a SUV to enjoy both luxury/comfort and versatility/durability

Until very recently I drove a 2010 Escape (The old boxy version) When I started car shopping I looked up the Escape's dimensions to help me compare vehicles. The old Escape is only 3" longer than the Bronco Sport and I would guess some of that is the longer bumpers on the Escape. So if you have an old Escape it looks like the Bronco Sport is more of a direct replacement. And yea! the rear glass pops open!

Great video. I had a 2015 Audi Q3 and cross shopped a 2021 Q3 with the Bronco Sport. I ended up ordering the Bronco Sport Badlands and took delivery just this past Friday. While I gave up some luxury and aerodynamics, living in the rural Midwest meant going with a fairly capable vehicle for light to medium off-road travel, while getting all the creature comforts like heated seats, leather, etc made it a no-brainer. The wife has a little 1.5L Kona, so I knew the engine size wasnt going to cut it on lower trims of the Bronco Sport. Also, being 6'0", I've got plenty of room compared to the Audi.

@@reyperez3424 Will do Rey! The wife and I took it out on some trails around a lake nearby, mud and snow, with no issues. Tread depth on the Scorpion tires could be better, but thats what the aftermarket is for. The suspension is a lot better than the lower trims, which I'm thankful I went to the BL. As for heat issues, time will tell, though after about 500 miles of trails and highway driving, it's doing good so far.

Bronco Sport Hybrid would be perfect. I like the interior styling of the Bronco Sport better than the Escape, but really want a Hybrid as my next vehicle. For makes a Escape Hybrid AWD, so it should be possible in the lower trims of the Bronco Sport that use the same AWD system as the Escape.
@markmiller3279
@markmiller3279 3 жыл бұрын
The Bronco Sport being so much stubbier may make it tough to fit the hybrid battery, but I agree that would be very attractive. It was good to hear Alex was getting 29 mpg, because the EPA rating of 26 mpg is not good at all. A vehicle in this class should get at least 30 mpg. The very square, upright styling probably hurts the highway mileage, and a hybrid drivetrain would help.

Now the new bronco sport is the answer to the bringing back a boxy SUV into the line up since the new escape's redesign. I know why Ford did it bc they didn't want 2 boxy SUV in the line up. I just think it's funny escape replaces bronco and now bronco replaces escape

My mom has exclusively leased Escapes for 10 years. When her current lease is up (she has the final year of the last-gen Escape), I will advise her to look at the Bronco Sport, because it's like that boxy Escape that she first had and really liked. Conversely, her husband has been exclusively leasing Subarus for like 15 years. They recently took a road trip in her car and he did some of the driving. He liked it so much that when his Outback lease was up, he got a new 2021 Escape.

Good thorough review, as usual. I personally have driven an Outerbanks and the Escape with the 1.5 T engine back to back. I actually preferred the Bronco Sport over the Escape with that engine. The Escape transmission seemed to be tuned for fuel economy rather than performance so, consequently, it was reluctant to down shift on a small grade causing the engine to lug and vibrate. While not a rocket, the BS was adequately powered and I also found the engine sound similar to a V6, and not unpleasant. Would the 2 liter be more fun, probably but I didn’t find the 1.5T objectionable.

Finally, it feels like Ford has been listening to it's customers. Ford kept building their SUV's bigger and bigger, look at the Explorer and Escape. IMHO there's big market for a vehicle the size and shape of the Bronco Sport. Easy to drive and park, enough room for four on short around town trips in the seats and lots of cargo room for two with the seats down. I've been wanting a modernized BroncoII for a couple of decades, this is it. I pray they don't Ford it up and keep making it bigger, longer, heavier and less appealing.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a long wheelbase version come along in a year or two. Not huge - maybe taking it to the same wheelbase as the Escape, which would take a little more than 1.5". Then again, maybe not. The other possibility is an "off-road" version of the Escape - along the lines of the Subaru Outback. Add some body cladding, some off road modes from the Bronco Sport, etc. That would fill the compact off-road hole in Ford's lineup, in a way that compliments the Sport.

The Bronco Sport looks better than the Escape and has a cool factor. Still I bought an Escape 1.5 SE AWD. The incentives were insane and my family is all 6ft plus. Once you figure out the drive modes it’s surprisingly good on sandy roads and icy/slushy conditions. Advice: Sport mode actually engages the rear and kicks the rpms up. It works a little better than slippery mode in certain situations.

Tiny turbo 4cyl engines aside, the Bronco Sport is a nicely packaged CUV. I like its more traditional, truck-ish design. The problem is, that rugged look is misleading buyers into thinking it's a tough, off-road vehicle, which it is not. Buyers are already finding it has mechanical problems when taken off-road. Being closer to 50, I was curious how this vehicle compared in size to the Bronco II of the 80's and the S10 Blazer. Overall it is a bit longer then that fun little Bronco II and just slightly shorter then the 4 door S10 Blazer of yesteryear. Many of us used those compact utes everyday and had no issues with their size so overall I would say that for a 4 door model this does have some adequate size to it, even though it is now in the subcompact category.

@David Malinovsky Yeah, but engines are tiny and packaging is much better. There really isn't that much front crumple space. Look under the hood of any 80s vehicle and there's plenty of excess space, some left to accommodate the largest engines, and some for crumple space, since the safety engineering that soaks up crashes was very primitive. There is definitely more side structute than there was, as they have to leave room for side beams.

I like the extra snap on covers for the back seats & the easy way to push the button on the headrest to easily drop the seat. I wish the arm rest had a small tray to put your coins in like the Subaru offers but find the storage is capable. Lights are great, vehicle has adequate poor for it, joy to drive. Wish it had memory seats like the Lincoln I drove as I went from a two vehicle owner to a one vehicle & my wife is short so I have to play with the seat every time I.get in. Overall I love the vehicle & recommend it to everyone.

4:40 the tailgate is a bit gapped on the right side. And you notice Alex has trouble getting it to latch shut a bit earlier. That’s cause one wheel is off the ground and the chassis is twisted. Alex inadvertently did a torsional rigidity test. He should feature this on his future videos. There’s one channel in Russia that puts one wheel up and takes measurements of all four doors and the hatch door-the hatch door usually gets gapped. Some models are better than others though. This bronco seems like it would fall into the average category. The Subaru Forester for example does extremely poorly. Hatch won’t even shut

Nice job Alex. Agree that there are attractive styling cues from Land Rover and much about the Bronco Sport is appealing, but after owning a Ranger, bought new, years ago, I for one will never buy another Ford. At that time, at least, "quality was job none." Things may be different now but burn me once...

I think they really put a lot of effort on the bronco brand. It seems very solid. Their site is very well done. We can see they put a tons of details to make it a real success. Normally i never make a mistake on the products i picked. And i see the bronco being a very good vehicle with great success. However i would apply a rust protection e-coating to be sure. I see Ford doing a comeback with this small vehicle.

Just got the Base on shadow black and I love it, I don't need the Badlands since I live in Southern California and would prefer mileage over power (traffic sucks and the majority of off-roading I'll do are with these potholes). I do wish I looked into the Big Bend and Outer Banks just for interior features and to determine if I should have paid extra for them.

Thank you for this review! I've watched several reviews, everyone compares this to the Escape. I had no clue it was smaller, I had no clue this was a SCUV. I'm actually shopping in this market, I would need the extra leg room and cargo space. So Bronco not a good fit for me but, I do like the look.

Very interesting and candid review. However from my own experience I would never touch a Ford 3I engine so it would have to be the 4I 2.0L. And although I am really not a big fan of the ZF 9-speed auto, the significant cash on the hood of the Cherokee with all its superior off-road capability + far superior interior (despite its age) makes a Bronco Sport a very tough call to make.

Good fair review, you should have also driven a badlands to give a better more complete review but none the less the bronco sport is a very nice vehicle and by far the best looking.

Built cheap to sell cheap. It will sell very well I'm sure. Not everyone wants to spend their children's inheritance on something that they use just to get from A to B. Also it may attract the younger driver as well as the pensioner. I'd happily have one.

@David Malinovsky This is new. It will soon be discounted hard. That is the Ford way. Besides which the Trailblazer is just a small raised hatchback, not in the same league as Bronco. It is more like a Nissan Rogue Sport.

@@hedydd2 I agree completely. MSRP is meaningless once initial demand has been met. There will be big discounts on these things, and the list price was established with those in mind. I think this could be be broadly popular. The Compass sells well, mostly on the Jeep branding, but this looks better and can be equipped to be reasonable off road.

Curious that Alex didn't compare the Bronco to the CX-30 at the end despite mentioning it in the video as a obvious competition. At any rate, the Bronco takes the cake for looks in that segment imo, the only thing that would give me pause, and it's a BIG thing, is reliability. Why can't Toyota produce a car looking like that?

Mach E, Bronco Sport, Maverick and soon more heavy duty trucks, the only stereotype that needs bucking is Ford building far too many cars in Mexico.

I was very interested in one of these but after testing drive several I concluded it was way too small for a family. But if you are single, bachelor, or don't have kids this would be great. I bought a pathfinder instead, not because it's better but because of the engine size and room inside. The new pathfinder will be out soon... which I would take any day over this...or for just a little more wait for full sized bronco. Palisade much better for price and not much more too. But if you want something tiny and don't mind a base model this isn't bad option and looks good. And I think it at least had downhill assist type control for going down steep icey hills?.. unlike the new Nissan rogue... that doesn't.

Is the Ford Bronco Sport driver seat low enough , where a person of body height ( 5"10" ) ; can open the driver's door , turn their but towards the seat and just lean back and sit down sideways into the seat ( in other words , do not have to climb into the vehicle by stepping one foot up onto the floor and climbing in ) ? This is a needed feature for those of us buying a vehicle that have had hip replacement.

Hmm...googling Dimensions of the Compass & Bronco Sport says they're both 173" long, and in the Compact segment. I tend to believe both Ford & Jeep saying their respective offerings are in the C segment, whereas the Renegade is a Subcompact or B segment. Just go with it Alex... :D
