Great information!! I have found that most bucks in my area of Mn the bucks are more active at night checking their scrapes after the 1st peak of the rut during the 1st week of November, then they are more active during the 1st week of December during the 2nd peak of the rut - 28 days after the 1st peak. I have shot more decent bucks during the 1st week December with my muzzleloader than I have during the rest of the season.
@Buckman-1012 ай бұрын
Great info. Darrin. It can happen that way.You find a hungry buck,and also a hot doe later in the season,and you have a great recipe for possible venison on the grill.

You have no idea what your talking about and don't know how to hunt I'm from MN n it's late November n haven't seen one buck..rut is over by mid November
@Buckman-101Ай бұрын
The term "Rut" can be used from september through december according to many people due to the fact that a doe may go into heat throughout any period of that time.When we witness this particular situation,meaning an active buck pursuing a doe during that particular window,we as sportsman simply classify it as the "Rut",whether it be 1 buck or 20 .Unfortunately,it may be taken out of context from time to time.
@darrinbuck3516Ай бұрын
@@Chad-k8o Maybe you need to spend a little more time in the woods and pay attention to what the deer are doing. Like Buckman stated, the rut is several months long. But there are peaks as to when rut activity is the highest. Around Halloween, around Thanksgiving and around Christmas in my area. Often times people will see small fawns, sometimes these fawns will still have their spots during the firearms season. Their mothers were not bred during the 1st peak of the rut.

I run 60-70 cameras all over the Adirondacks of NY and the Green Mountains of VT-mostly on Annual Scrapes. We don't get excited for the big boys (5+ y/o bucks) to start cruising daylight till the 15th-25th of November. Thanksgiving week is often when the real Giants get killed - Zombie Walking the rut funnels and scrape lines looking for the last does.

@@Buckman-101 Thanks! Not too busy - I scout twice a month all year long. Usually 10-18 mile treks. Big Loops. Some of it on Hiking Trails thankfully! Some cameras I don't even get back to for 2 years! You learn a lot that way... or sometimes nothing but how clear pictures your camera can take of a branch blowing in the wind. It's Been a great season so far. I'm Hoping for Tracking Snow in the ADK's when our Late Muzzy season opens December 9! For us, Rut funnels vary depending on location-the swamps obviously differ than the Mountains. I usually focus high. Usually the best funnels connect two doe bedding areas. They are usually small benches 2/3rds up a Mountain but it can vary. The best funnels have thick hemlock cover, and some sort of compounding terrain feature (a bench above or just below a small Mountain marshy area/swamp with lots of browse and cover and water. If you can throw in an almost vertical cliff above and below the bench forcing travel, you have a million dollar spot!! These are VERY few and far between.

Very descriptive of your area.I can almost picture how it looks. I want to know what kind of batteries you are using to keep the cameras running so long. Even with lithium,mine will last through the winter,but thats about it.Maybe better cameras are my answer.

I have to agree with you. The problem in a bigwoods scenario is if he comes back to see if any does are back in estrous,he may end up finally leaving for the winter. If the snow starts moving in,they instinctively know to migrate to their wintering grounds.

But he’s right with the predictability coming back. Mostly you can forget an evening hunt because all the movement is 10 minutes after dark like clockwork. Best bet is an early or possibly midday hunt.

I find that the bucks are vulnerable in late season (late November) by using a doe decoy.
@Buckman-101Ай бұрын
Earl i cant say i ever realized or witnessed that particular pattern. whats your thoughts on that?
@earlunderwoodjr.6766Ай бұрын
@ I’ve hunted deer in Northern Michigan’s large forests. I normally hunt the large cedar swamps, and the small clearings within them. I have taken several good bucks during the last week of November, by using a doe decoy. One thing that I’ve done to my decoy that is different, is that I have replaced the decoy’s plastic tail, with a real deer tail. Nearly all the bucks were taken in the last light of the day. And, I normally focus on scouting for the next deer season, in early spring. As soon as the snow melts, and I can travel to areas of interest. All of the rubs, and scrapes from the previous season are still visible, and spooking a deer is not a problem.
