dear Kimberly I have spent 48 years hating my ex husband. then last 2 years hating his 3rd wife as apparently she was there since my 45 yr old son was 3.. and she told him that. it is difficult to let go of anger I was 15 when we met he was 20. he was mine and father to my kids. you don't know how bad it feels to see him with someone else. so I need to find Ajahns speach on letting go of anger. There have been more angers where I wanted people dead. I have lived my life in anger and now want to let it go.x

when I got married and had 2 kids. I expected to stay in love and have the kids dad in their and my life. unfortunately I had to change as he was violent. so I had to let him go by divorce. he decided not to be a dad to his kids to spite me. I married a psychopath. is it so wrong to expect my ex to be a father to his children. but why get married if you are not expecting to stay married. Me too! I’ve rewatched this video a couple of times now and I still remember the first time I heard these ideas. I was working in a ghetto corner store, stocking beer in the back room, and thinking about how irritated I was by all the customers, and listening to this talk. And it dawned on me, everyone’s doing their best in life, skillfully or not, just let them be, you won’t be doing this job forever so why not just let go and be happy, geez. And that stuck with me. Oddly enough I had a lot fewer conflicts with rude customers after that too. Probably because my attitude really did changed and they stopped sensing my ill will and reacting to it in kind.

This talk has changed my life for the better. At the time of finding this talk, I was often obsessed with finding happiness in places where it cannot be found. This lead to a lot of suffering. In a moment of clarity, I googled "how to let go" and found this talk. Since then, I've experienced that letting go leads to much more happiness and I am gradually learning to be content with the way things are. Brahm is doing a great deed by bringing Theravada Buddhism to the modern World. In Sri Lanka and I guess Thailand too, culture is intertwined with Buddhism because both countries have had it for so long. I find that western students of the Thai forest traditions who have gone onto be Ajahn’s are great teachers for this reason. They teach in a different way. But also their forest tradition keeps it very fundamental. Which I think is also good. Because that’s what the Buddha meant for lay people.

new film trailer you sound harsh. But what you say is partly true. But what should someone do if they don’t understand Sinhala very well and are horrible at learning new languages and this is no fault of their own, did you decide what kind of situation to be born in? Anyway, the deeper I go into Buddhism I find that learning Pali is the way to do it and knowing Sinhalese helps a lot. Also a key difference in Thai forest tradition I like is that they don’t stress too much on abidhamma which Buddha taught to his mother and other heavenly beings. It can get very complex. I find staying away from that for lay people and learning more about paticcasammupada is more helpful for lay people.

One of the smartest things I ever learned to do is to interrupt my own trail of thought. Whenever I get pessimistic, complain, judge, take something for granted, feel impatient or ripped off etc.. It's just a case of acknowledging it when you can, and over time, you notice it more and more. Once you notice you can remind yourself of why it's no good, and then you can get back to being in an awesome mindset. It's like a 3 second meditational reset button. It's up there with taking responsibility for situations, keeping productive and exploring and experiencing life with others in a social network/community, and having something worthy of dying for.

The human brain is wired to not to want to let go - it replays things on a loop - the hurts play out so we have to learn to say STOP IT.Letting go can be done but it takes effort every day to renew your mind and let go.You can decide to let things go but the things you thought you let go return on the loop again.Its an ongoing process.EFT helped me a lot tapping - plenty of videos on here that you can learn from and tap away what you want to let go.It rewires the brain.

I like how he addresses letting go of happy moments as well as bad ones. We hear "let go of the past" all the time but usually only think of letting go of bad memories. Letting go of good memories can be just as important because otherwise we will never be able to live fully in the present.

If you're an average person or don't work on yourself sure maybe life will be a shit thing.. I think one of the truths/ideas in Buddhism is that "the unenlightened mind/life is one filled with suffering"..I feel like what he's teaching is how to lead a better/happier life with less suffering.. A path to peace and enlightenment? No reason we can't all lead a wonderful life regardless of circumstances..?
