The reason why we all love the budget bike battle is alot of us ride older bikes and we can all relate to the issues you've been having and as there all mechanical you don't need electronic engineer from NASA to sort them out. Roll on the Africa trip can't wait!!!!!!

so true and i bet quite a lot of guys who needed a new bike or who are on the point of getting their first bike are now searching for oneof those 2 bikes. It is just so much more relatable than guys riding 40k bikes on some racetrack in spain, while the rest of Europe is having a miserable winter

Aside from the obvious depreciation an liklihood of dropping, it's the third reason I always recommend newbies get used bikes. Sure you can take your bike to the shop for every little thing, but the reality is that bikes are so easy to work on, it just makes sense to do a lot of the work yourself. So I recommend newbies get cheap smaller bikes and just learn to do as much as they can bit by bit. I staeted on a 13 year old 125 and had that thing to bits all the time. By doing that you just get a really good foundation. My second bike was a 2 year old ZX6R - no way I'd wanted to have learnt even basic maintenance on that lol

Pretty sure I've got a new Renthal front sprocket hanging around if you want one. Also, beat me to it with the ride height. I also put my forks through the yoke by 10mm which helped being 6ft4 too. A v+h advancer just nips up throttle response if you can find one; I need to see what I've got still, might have that too. Cosmstically, you can take the middle part of the rear indicators stem from each side and install it behind the reg plate. It just looks nicer and less lancaster bomber from behind. Might be a possible weight save option available too. Good work Chris. #teamninja

Rather than splash out for an after market shock, why don’t you have the stock shock and forks serviced? Oh and the fork pitting at the bottom of the stancions may cause you some big problems later on bad roads/ pot holes. It will damage the seals and cause the fork oil to leak onto the brakes and tyres. And whilst you’re in there, lube up the swingarm/linkage bearings. They could even be the cause of the harsh ride.
@mozer307 жыл бұрын
Shaolinfist83 yer I never thought of that until you mentioned it.... pretty much the same story with the 99 cbr 600’s too if I remember correctly? I’m Loving this series but I think barons choices to put the bike on a diet rather than making it mechanically sound may come back to haunt him.
@mmazourov7 жыл бұрын
That's a great point - I had a SRAD 750 (sorry Chris), Allbike Engineering in Greenwich serviced the shock and forks for £250 made a big difference for not much money
@andreahighsides77567 жыл бұрын
You can clean up your fork stanchions with some 2k and 3k sandpaper. You don’t need to flatten out the scratches, just round off any sharp edges you can feel with your fingernail
@roblaa31987 жыл бұрын
Andre Chiesa great tip thanks👍
@andreahighsides77567 жыл бұрын
No problem! Look up a video before you do it because there’s a way to rotate the stanchion to make sure you don’t sand the tube flat
@I0ITuGI0I7 жыл бұрын
This isn't a good idea as you will wear down the thin layer of chrome which is going to cause even more issues for your fork seals as the diameter of the metal is changing.

I had a 7R twenty years ago...R827 AAY where are you now! I had it for 2 years & loved it, kinda “cut my teeth” on that bike & learnt a lot. Definitely raise the ride height, transformed the handling (from a fuzzy memory), it was easy enough to do & I got the settings from an article in a Performance Bikes (Gus & Ronnie....my fookin hero’s back then!). Did my 1st trackday, foreign trip & knee down on that bike. Traded it for a 4XV R1, that was bloody epic too....7R’s still look great to me too. Great vids 👍
@matthewS9937 жыл бұрын
Nice one, ironically I've got a ZX7R and 4XV R1. Done a trackday on my 7R and it was great, front end was solid and still had enough grunt. The R1 feels like a 600 compared, front end lifts under throttle all the time but there both awesome in their own right.

Pity they sold them before completely sorting out the issues. Would have loved to see them fully restored with modest upgrades.

Change your fluids? Seems like and easy, unexpensive mod that is going to provide you with some garantees, if not some enhancement. I'm thinking radiator and fork fluids especially. You might as well want to bleed your brakes, along these lines. That might even be a problem solver.

I've done a similar thing for weight loss with my 96 CBR600. Including a lithium battery, I've dropped an easy 8.6KG. This does include a full system with CF end can. Something to consider, a full ally bolt kit for the fairing from Probolt. Cheap, and light :) . Also, keep the bike!!! You know you can use the crank from an earlier ZXR750. Drops right in, and strokes the capacity. Do a big bore, and I think it goes to 880cc relatively cheaply.

Mind you, you've only got to trundle there. As any fule no, all the blue SRADs have been thrashed like they're on punishtube. 2nd gear pinion or output shaft main bearing, or any one of a thousand stupid electrical bollix - sidestand cutout switch, if it's still on there, would be my fave. Hi BVG, try getting an after market exhaust hanger that way you can get rid of the heavy rear pegs. Save at least 30kg!. I’m a lanky bloke too and I found a cheap solution to get more leg room on some bikes you can buy some of those dog bone peg risers and fit them on the wrong sides so you can bolt the pegs lower, Hope this helps great series guys :)

Was always partial to the ZX7R's. Great looking bikes especially the year your working on. Kawasaki still sells brand new OEM parts for this bike such as the front stanchion tubes or entire fork assembly. In fact it looks like just about all parts are still available for this bike. But just like that SRAD the parts aren't cheap, but they are available. Even the OEM plastics (painted and decaled) are available. Pretty sweet depending on what you are looking to do with your bike. So if your lookin for a rear shock, front forks or that radiator you can buy it brand new OEM. Give Partzilla or Cheapcycleparts a look. Have used both of those many times in the past and they are very reputable.

Have you looked at riser plates for your rearsets? You can use them to drop the peg height as well as rise. Should be no more than £30 on eBay. Not used them myself, but they make sense, will have to fiddle with the shift rod though. If you prefab an aluminium hanger for the pipe you can also get rid of pillion pegs - easy 1.5 kg.
