After getting Andy’s bakkie the Isuzu KB 300Dteq, running again we got it dropped off at Paul a friend of Hein who is going to help us get this vehicle mechanically sound! We open up the Diesel engine and see what’s gone wrong inside! It’s hopefully not all bad! Once we get the engine sorted we will be able to get the Isuzu ready to start kitting out and getting it ready for some proper Overlanding!

I've been watching 4 or 5 other local overlanding channels lately but I must say your work is a cut above the rest. It might just be personal preference and the others are still much appreciated. Could be your photography background.

I've done "professional overlanding" for various Overland companies in sub-Saharan Africa, and I immigrated to Australia nearly 9 years ago from a beautiful town called Somerset West. Not a day goes by that I don't think of the best times of my life. I just recently discovered your channel, and thank you for the memories. Keep filming!!

I'd also change out the thermostat, water pump and radiator cap as preventative maintenance.

So lucky you have those guys working on the engine👍. Modern mechanics can only plug the vehicle into a computer and run diagnostics then hope for the best. This series is going to be very interesting.

This is the way to do it, will be a super reliable bakkie and a joy to drive. Never fix stuff on the cheap it will cost a lot of money in future, afrikaans saying " Goedkoop is duur koop"

What I like about my engine is that it is a taxi engine. Full mechanical,, no turbo, just 3.0 5 cilinders, timing chain. 5 rebuild injectors was 275 euro and it make the engine run so smooth. No knocks and no smoke. Pretty good for a 45 year old diesel that starts always in 1 second 😁 The only issue with the current fuel prices it now cost 1 euro to drive 2km. But it is only a money issue. Which can be solved by working and saving more. So I will travel Amsterdam - North Cape in 5 weeks 😁

The Isuzu engine is a good powerplant. The repairs and parts being replaced will give you a good vehicle to work with. Maybe a bit of a lemon now,but you have bought low, and have budgeted to do maintenance. So, should be a good vehicle in the future.

One of my friends wanted to buy this exact same bakkie, he asked me to go with him to help him inspect the vehicle. I strongly advised him to rather not buy the bakkie. Seems like I made the correct judgment. Either way you only paid 150k for it, atleast you have some money left to get everything back in shape. I wil strongly advise to get an isuzu expert for other work. Only use genuine isuzu parts on suspension like balljoints and bushes. Don't replace the cv's with aftermarket units if it's stil ok, the original tnt cv's is the only cv's that lasts in the bush. Get in contact with Dune offroad for advice on isuzu's! Anyway sorry for the long reply, saw your channel now and love the videos I watched up to now. Keep up the good work.

yah its been a bit of a nightmare to be honest. But we have had great support from Paul so far; we just maybe bit off a bit more than we can chew with this old girl; but we will have her running like a dream for Andy come hell or high water.

#1. Love the channel. #2 It is obvious that you guys have no experience with anything mechanical related to cars, and that’s ok, we all start from step 1. The big lesson to be learned is that next time pay a trained mechanic $100 to go with you for the long drive to inspect the car, if that isn’t possible don’t buy the car, just walk away. The engine was a complete mess, those boys doing the fix were being super friendly and positive with you for the camera. With all that said I am super happy for Andy and I really look forward to seeing him become a big part of the channel.

Hey Jimbo. If you're asking someone for a R1500 opinion you must be drunk or high. I'll ask Cyril for a loan just for peace of mind.

Agree with James on this one, in Aus we normally pay $100-$300 aud for a detailed inspection before purchase, especially for an older model 4x4.

A South African mechanic won't charge you R1500. 00 to look a used vehicle over. You're directly comparing the $ to the Rand. It'll be more like R400/500.

Hey Adrian, here's hopefully a helpful tip. Don't underestimate the power of a good thumbnail for your videos. I nearly missed this episode due to the thumbnail you've chosen. If you don't have your face or your vehicle on the thumbnail, make sure you include your logo.

Not a fair reflection your statement is too general. There are beautiful 2nd hand cars that are extremely well maintained out there. South Africans love their overlanding and overlanders understand the value of maintenance and reliability. There are also reputable dealers aplenty. But like in any place in the world there will be sellers (private and dealers) who are trying to get rid of something they botched up. I bought a showroom condition car 2nd hand and its been nothing but a pleasure, but I have some mechanical knowledge and experience buying. Even then, I sent it to an independent expert before parting with money.

When the oil hasn't been changed regularly on schedule, it builds up a ugly black tar in the engine called sludge. Very bad. This engine of Andy does indeed look clean inside.
