i feel like the weight over the rear end makes it easy to whip it around a tight corner since the weight follows through and it feels like a smooth corner, with the weight in the front you can do lots of whips very quickly, like if you are going around 3 sharp corners in a row.

I'm going to be honest here from experience. The d4 is not an easy chassis for rwd beginners. You're going to need some serious work to get it drift well but I'll try my best to help. For starters check your front wheels at full lock and make sure that the wheels don't rub the a arms at all. Front rub=spinout. Seriously bad design with the d4 stock. Next try experimenting with weight, how much and where it is. Every drifter is different but I did best with about 70% rear-30%front and about 1900g with a body. Also the stock d4 tires work best on a carpet surface so try experimenting with different tires. As always heck out forums about the d4 and you can find a lot of useful info about the d4 and rwd setups. I'd recommend rwd basic startup/setup from Kinsley on the drift laboratories forum. Last thing is lexan hardbodies should have a clear overspray film on it. I dont know if abc hobbies does or not but it's worth checking before you put on stickers. Hope this helped!

If there is one thing I can pull from all your videos it's, your attitude towards your mistakes or when things just don't come out as planned. This is something I wish I had. One question I'm not a drifter so considering what you said towards the end of the video about time not having enough of it. Will we see that killer pre-runner you started before winter's beginning? Thx for your time and super chill demeanor.👍✌
@MakeItRC7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! Honestly I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist, however I've learned to try and not dwell on the little imperfections, and instead learn from mistakes and come up with ways to avoid them in the future. I was mainly disappointed with the paint on this body because I know I can do far better especially with such a simple paint job. As for the pre-runner, I'm not sure when the next video of it will be. I've been experimenting a little with different fender flare, and bedside designs, but I haven't yet decided on a design to use. I'd like to think I'll have another video of it out before winter, but we'll have to see.

I have a MST RMX 2.0-S it's a rwd drifter and it has ~40% of the weight on the front wheels and it's pretty easy to drift. I'd suggest not adding any stick-on or screw on weights but rather move the electronics around to see what really works. Love the videos man keep it up.
@MakeItRC7 жыл бұрын
Glad your enjoying the videos! As I mentioned in the video, I did do some drifting with the battery up front so I had a point of reference as to how the car handled with even weight distribution. The reason all the electronics are in the rear is to make room for an interior. That is why I chose to compensate the heavy rear end by adding weights to the front instead of mounting the electronics in the center.

I use plasti dip to color my bodies, so I could change it later if I wanted too and keep the same body. It works really well, although you cant let it dry all the way before removing the tape, otherwise it will want to peel off with the tape. If it does dry before the tape is removes use a razor blade or similar sharp blade to cut the plasti dip.
@MakeItRC6 жыл бұрын
I've used Plasti Dip on an RC body before. Worked very well. I also sometimes like to apply a few thick coats of black to wheel wells and other chassis components since it looks a bit like a full scale protective undercoating.

If your trying to get some more weight at the front you could do that mod where you add functional pop ups, yes I know it's one of the most common things to do with those 240 and 180 bodies, but it does add a bit of weight and just improves the overall awesomes of the car

Apparently, having more weight in the rear is actually a good thing. The rear of the car will have some additional momentum to use in addition to its power so the rear can sling around quicker. this is especially helpful if you have a shitty steering angle too.
@MakeItRC7 жыл бұрын
Very true. In my case I had too much weight in the rear which gave me some challenges. After transferring some weight to the front and middle the car, it feels much better. It's sill heavier in the back but not to an excessive amount.

Weight tuning is always a personal thing but indeed just playing with it a bit should result a bit. Tunig yhe setup with camber and caster is a good thing to do. And if you are going rwd i would highly reccomend getting a gyro everyone in championships usr them to make the small imperfections smooth. And if ypu do decide to get one dont cheap out. A cheap gyro will ruin your drifting so i would reccomend a yokomo or mst altho expensive they just work with the car and not against it

You want as close to 50-50 weight distribution as possible to reduce the polar moment of inertia. I'm sure you figured this out and it sounded like you did from the video but that weight does not want to change direction so if all that weight is over the rear tires you're going to be more prone to oversteer due to the weight not wanting to change direction and having less grip to make it do so
@kasperwinterhag7 жыл бұрын
Locking good, it locks like you should have less grip on the back tires but still have the wait there. For example mor cambre ( wheels like this / \ from the back)

Thanks in advanced. Also read through the comments and saw that not to long ago you only had 600 subs :') you've grown pretty fast in those 2 months for an rc channel! congrats dude!
@MakeItRC7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! It really is great to have an audience of this size while sill being new to video making. I've seen a ton of TT-01 drift builds, mostly AWD or CS. I've also built several TT-01 and TT-02 drift cars, all where AWD. I have no experience converting a TT-01 to RWD or CS. There are so many parts out there for those chassis, It's a bit hard to know whats best. I'd recommend getting on some forums/facebook groups/local club, if your not already and seeing what other guys have done and get their recommendations, especially if your serious about performance.
@sebsshenanigans7 жыл бұрын
All good man :) I'm hoping to be at the 1k mark by end of next year with this one aha and yeh, been looking around quiet a bit to see whats other there and pretty much bang for buck is one of the diff swaps for it to make the backs turn faster than the front. i think they ranged from a 1:1.2 ration to a 1:1.7. just havent been sure if the stock steering angle will let catch it before it spins with that 1.7. I guess it will make a good comparison video seeing as I havent found one yet on yt.
@MakeItRC7 жыл бұрын
Nice channel you got, keep up the good work! Comparing those diffs would make for an interesting video. From my experience the stock steering angle of a TT-01 is not very sharp (at least by drifting standards) so a 1:1.7 ratio with stock steering angle might not be ideal but It would be interesting to see a comparison.
@sebsshenanigans7 жыл бұрын
thanks :) just waiting for the subs to build up though aha. And yeh, its got rubbish steering angle, so i was probably going to lean more towards the 1.5 that they had as well. and if it gets to spin happy then gyro or do some modifying but still think that doing a comparison of stock vs the different diffs would definitely be an interesting one to make.

Why did you remove the protective film from the body? That is very handy against overspray
@MakeItRC7 жыл бұрын
I removed the film on this body for a couple reasons, the first being I sprayed a non-reflective grey paint over the entire outer surface of the body, and placed reference markers before cutting the body out so I could 3d scan the body. I use the scan data to aid in designing custom parts. With the entire outside of the body no longer transparent, it would make marking areas to mask off far more difficult. Removing the paint is possible but it’s tedious and leaves a haze on the surface. Additionally I used a rotary tool and sandpaper to sand around the entire edge of the body. Doing this makes the edge of the body nice and smooth especially around the wheel arches. And it only takes a few minutes to complete. But as a side effect of doing this it usually tears the edge of the film, which would allow over spray to sneak past unless the entire edge is taped. After completing what I mentioned above, it makes sense to just toss the factory over spray film and simply apply some liquid mask to the outside. I could have sprayed the liquid mask on with an airbrush if I wanted a smooth, thin layer just like what was on the body from the factory, but for such a simple paint job with minimal masking, I chose to just pile some on with a brush.

@MakeItRC7 жыл бұрын
You can go straight with a drift car, you can also drive and turn like any other car if you keep the speed low.

What happened if you used high-grip tires? When would the gyro start countersteering? As soon as the lateral g-forces become high enough, or not until the tail brakes loose? Thank you, Michael
@MakeItRC7 жыл бұрын
High grip tires would greatly hinder the cars ability to drift. It would also likely cause severe understeer particularly with a car like mine since there is more weight over the rear and of course there is no rear differential. You only really notice the gyro when the vehicle oversteers and the gyro countersteers proportionately for you helping to maintain the drift. They are adjustable so you can choose how much you want the gyro to countersteer.
