@@bobbygetsbanned6049 there are two ways of saying the same thing. How about saying, "Personally, I would prefer that the entire floor had rebar but it sure looks great" Instead, a guy pops in and says "That's going to crack all over the place you should have put in rebar" I would assume the substrate makes a tremendous amount of difference. The ground where he lives looks to be 75% stone. If a guy dug out a piece of property to level it and use the fill material he dug out to level up the area where the concrete was going to be poured, half the garage would be on solid ground that had been dug out and smooth flat and the other half would be on fill dirt. I can see that half the slab could get a crack in it or transitions from solid ground to fill dirt. Do the people commenting no the stability of the ground or Derek is living? I dont have your degree just years of watching and learning. Guys um so proud of yall and jelous.. but i guess building standards are differtt out that way. Without drilling into old slab and installing rebar into it, the two slabs can float up and down in differnt directions. If it was mine id have drilled the post and installed bolts for them. And ran the rebat outside the slab to tie the porch and the driveway togther.. your slabs are not connected .. i wouldnt plan on putting alot of big rigs on it. But thats what i work on and never pour a slab without at least 12 inch by 12 inch beams all the way around and through center lines every 12 feet..i have watched everything you have ever done from the 1st 305 build to now and this was the 1st time i was ever alarmed.. only because thats a ton of money you spent and very nice as well. Im not downing you or your contractators because maybe the soil is more stable out that way.. dude im so super happy and certianly hope it the best. I just pray it dont end up looking like those old 70 year ago driveways that have floated in every dirrections because you just have floating rocks not tied to one another... the fail of the asphault may show that the soil wont hold.. yes fiber concrete is good but its not rebar.. hell around here we would have drilled at least 10 to 12 peirs down into that rock at least 10 feet deep.. keep up the great work and i hope to meet ya someday. Love you and your family greatly. Ive recently gotten divorced and lost everything but i count on you and some others one youtube to bring mr at least some kind of peace and enjoyment into my life.. you will and those will never know that maybe yall are just keeping a few from throwing in the towel and giving up. I noticed the same thing you are saying. I am a licenced carpenter from Norway. Over here we don't pour any concreate what so ever without rebar. Especially under points where loads is going down on the floor (like lifts, etc). Also the rebar under the shelter. It looked like the rebar was all the way into the wood. There should be at least one inch from any wall or surface to the rebar, to protect it from moisture. If not it rusts, expands and cracks the conreate. Another thing I noticed is the plastic. Wouldn't it be a better idea to have it come up on the walls? That way you are protecting the wood from the moisture from the concreate (even treated wood don't last forever). This is at least how we do it here on the other side of the pond. We also have harsher winters, causing more movement in the ground.

Having done a lot of tile and drainage work while landscaping, I feel the need to share an opinion. Each downspout should have its own 4" tile line(non perforated). And the foundation should have a 4" perforated line. When you add downspout water to your foundation tile, you're always adding water to your foundation. Water needs to seep into the tile from the ground, don't put water into the tile to leech into the ground. They even make attractive outlets/emitters for 4" tile.

The water from the downspouts flows so fast nothing leaks into the saturated ground and after the storm is over the ground continues draining through the perforated pipe I've never had water in my shop and the only time I had it in my house was when I lost 3/4 of my roof
@davidwoermansr2 жыл бұрын
@@Hodado that's why you surround the pipe with gravel or river rock

Having that shelter up above your concrete job makes things a lot easier. In case it rains or having too much sun. Often, you don't get this much work time on concrete if doing it out in the sun. They can take their time to do a very nice job and the curing time isn't too fast or too slow.

This channel and VGG are the embodiment of the American family channels. Yeah, it's got car stuff and building stuff, but as for anything, there must be a good foundation and family is that foundation. Without family, we have nothing. Thank you to the Bieris for bringing us along in your family adventures and car stuff too!

You're living proof of what, real dedication and hard work, achieves. It's good to see and, to share, what hard work and dedication, can bring those, who earn it. We love all your videos and, the best part is, my whole family enjoys watching VGG & now, VGL, plus, Roadworthy Rescues. You know it's a good show when, your 13 year old daughter, starts talking about the first car she wants me to build, "WITH HER"!!!😊😊😊😊 My oldest, Son, actually works with me, in the heavy duty diesel truck industry and, has been the one to introduce me, to VGG, years ago. Congratulations on all, your well deserved success.

I had not watched the VG lodge videos, and fell on them by accident, WOW ! what I missed. Silly me watched a video of this building when completed and after a big flood, then realised many more videos so watched Derek doing his "garden work" , then Derek and family at the lawnmower business, that was fantastic. Now I am watching them laying the concrete. I think I need to go back to the beginning and start from there ! I wonder if Derek ever sleeps, often he is still tinkering with the cars at midnight and In this video he was at the barn at 4.30am.

I could not believe that giant rotary machine smoothed out the cement with almost no swirl marks. Reminding me of paint/clearcoat correction with a rotary buffer.

Derek, the concrete looks great, but did they tell you the two "things" concrete is guaranteed to do, even with cuts in it, settle and crack. Did my own concrete around my house and cut it, still cracked where it wanted to. Oh well. That will be a great shop to work in, it is always better to go as big as you can. Looks awesome!!!
All I can say is 'green', the color of envy, oh yeah, and congats.

Man, I would run the new driveway straight into the garage doors even if it meant losing the tree. So much easier to use than what you are doing.
