I have a full time helper that handles most of my labor now, and I actually just taught him one of my tricks to stabbing a tricky trans ( mainly the newer FWD stuff with those dooky 6 spd trans that have the oil pan on the front of them..). Regardless of how good your trans jack is, with those transmissions you have to manhandle them in order to get them lined up (because of the horribly uneven surface on the bottom of the trans that inevitably the trans jack has to support). I'm very against sucking a trans to an engine with the bolts, the idea reminds me eerily of joining dirtbike bottom ends together with the bolts, which I have (on several occasions) seen the cast cases shear an ear off. Getting the trans close, easing one bolt into it (loosely), and allowing the trans to then pivot off that bolt is a super easy way to eliminate one of the several axes that trans has to align in order to mate to the engine. Also, another simple ttip to apply support on the front of the trans (under the bellhousing) while trying to stab one into place. That heavy converter will weigh the front of that trans down just enough to make it a PITA.

Excellent series, Mitchell! Logan is dramatically more professional than when she first was on weeks ago! She acts more like a young lady rather than a high school kid! Your instruction is clear and valuable to one who is doing this for the 1st time!

funny that on a manual transmission in the rear of the crank shaft is where you would install the pilot bearing. On an automatic transmission the rear of the crank shaft is where the "SNOUT" of the torque converter is be inserted to center it and prevent the front pump and the stator from impacting the turbine wheel assembly.
@Duramaxjon3 жыл бұрын
Your description of putting a transmission in on the ground is spot on lol. That just happened with me and my brother putting a built Allison in our Duramax. It was slowly sliding off the transmission jack and almost fell on us. It was very dangerous, but kind of funny to think back on

You need to put that original gasket back on they're meant to be reusable they have the metal crush sleeves in them that stop you from over tightening and squeezing the gasket out. The aftermarket gaskets with filters are junk and always leak.

Don’t use the slip on adapter, your thrust bearing in the engine will Thank You! Weld an .400 extension on the converter hub. Check free space in the end of the crank by holding the converter up to the engine before welding it. Were you blindfolded dumping oil into the converter? :) And like 75 others said, save the stock pan gasket! You can shorten the rear driveshaft, and buy a 2500 front shaft. I have swapped a few!

Hopefully you wont have a problem but I've learned to use the factory pan gasket because the rubber ones leak. Or buy a Sure Seal gasket off Amazon. Also the flexplate from a 60e will work with an 80e as long as the converter has 3 bolt holes per pad. And converter depth will be just over an inch when fully seated when measuring from bellhousing to converter bolt pad.. love the content keep it up !!

Pan gasket is an easy swap if it does leak. I’m not worried

Mechanics rule of thumb about stickers. Cool stickers go on the car , Simi cool, not on the car but allowed on the tool box. As for lame ass stickers, they either go on the outside of the trash 🗑 can or inside the bag and in some rare cases you use them to seal closed or repair a broken shop garage bag, we call those "big bin ready or speedy bag's."
