I think the reason why so many people fall for these English cars is they are so easy to work on and get running. However getting them to run perfectly requires patience, and is almost an art. I'd swear they were hand built because everyone of them seems to have its own unique personality.

True that! They are a trip to work on haha! Even putting carpet in there’s no second panel the same 😅

You guys are amazing. You pull stuff out that most people wouldn't think had any scrap value and you see the good in it and make it live again in some fashion. Because you do so much with so little, this is so much better than watching some super-star car designer and his $250,000 build. Keep up the great work. I was watching another channel yesterday and he drug a piece of cardboard over to crawl under a car and he called it a Carolina Creeper. I laughed because I've be under cars on carpet, cardboard and anything else.

I have W129 1980 Merc SL, it hasnt turned over in the last 7 years mainly as its in the UK and i"m in Thailand , but watching you has given me some ideas of what to do before i start the car up in a few months time, I did try to get it into Thailand but the customs wanted to charge 80% of the original cars price plus import tax plus VAT, it was too expensive, unless i stripped the car down and shipped it in as spares that would attract only 20% charges, The other problem was my Thai wife with a sexy car she thinks all the ladies will want to get into my SL, with me so she didnt lift a finger to help me , they can be so jealous at times, Great video i really enjoyed watching many thanks.

Save as many parts off the MGB as you can and clean them up. There is a good market for usable 'B' parts. Just scrap the bodyshell. Or offer it for a very challenging restoration! Got to tell you there are people in the UK that would restore that wreck. Sad to see an old car finally have to go but you will save a few as well.

Had a 71 MGB GT in 79 thru 85, wish I still had it. Was built for CA but I bought it in ID. Took off the CA emissions stuff, a lot of work, picked up the Weber set up for it and ran great. Raced it in the SCCA events and had a lot of fun. Saw a great GT with a Wankel in it, very nice, really fast. Used to see a few of the MGC's. Keep up the good work and keep a look out for that very special car to give to your daughter. You will blink and she will be that age. I found a really clean Mercedes 300D for my last daughter. Big and heavy, no turbo so not fast, great driver and she never wrecked it. It went to a new home and new dads daughter.

MGB 1800 twin carb engine, the most favoured engine for hundreds of Austin And Morris, Wolsely and Riley A60 cars used in British Banger Racing over the years (google it) but not mine, I used the A60 1622 engine fitted with WESLAKE racing parts from a WOLSELY 18/80 "S" type, a rare car in its self. With a bit of work and a good cam in it, that MGB "lump" WILL growl. good luck, lets see more soon... Thanks for the video, (Ian) .. UK

Great stuff! I like the red rocker cover! I had an MGB in the 80s like this one and the gear shift feel is the best I have ever experienced to this day - shifter stick straight into the gearbox - nice and positive. It will make a great engine for a project - they have lots of torque and pull strongly, so they feel quicker than the BHP might suggest, particularly in something light! If I remember correctly the engines also respond well to tuning, so you should easily get over 100 BHP with it. Keep up the great videos! Best wishes

Look after that engine. When I started working on cars garages would give you two A series engines for the price of one, they were so common, from the 850 through the 1100, the 1300, the 1500 and the 1800.My local garage had a field in the back with twenty or thirty just lying around and I was always able to help myself to whatever pieces I wanted. Now if you try to buy one in reasonable condition they are worth their weight in gold.

If money was not a consideration, you can buy pretty much everything for the MGB, if you can find an older range rover you can drop the 3.5 V8 into these. SU carbs are still made and overhaul kits quite reasonable if it weren't the price of the postage, one chap I knew stateside converted his twin SU carb to a twin Hitachi CD and I heard dual Strombergs can be made to fit if you can machine the inlet manifold. The desirable ones were those with the Laycock J overdrives. Some NOS parts can be found from the Reliant Robin which had a lot of the MG/Triumph parts bin components like dials, indicator stalks etc.

My old man used to have a Wolseley 24/80 and it has the “Blue Streak” Six (a B Series engine but modified down here in Australia as a six cylinder) and it used to be a common swap into these MGs in the 70s I think. Hence why a 24/80 is rare but a 16/60 is more common. Wether the handling sacrifice was worth it... hard to say. A bit before my time by a few decades!

Haha 😅 they are a pain sometimes! I don’t throw anything out though...can’t you see that 😁😁 actually, honestly I can’t stand mess. That’s why I spent the weeekend cleaning and hauling stuff off! Just to get a bigger shop soon! Then I won’t have so much clutter 😊

It's a shame the MG was too far gone, maybe a few of its parts (if lucky) could be of use on another MG?

There is no slip shaft on the MGB gearbox. The drive flange attaches to the output shaft. I think the overdrive version is the same.

Absolutely 🙂 the slipshaft is midway on the driveshaft, but is frozen solid due to rust 🤷🏼‍♂️
