We took the Force RC HammerJaw crawler on an amazing rock trail in Pennsylvania along with a Bomber for comparison. Things were going great until we stripped the front locker. Tune in to see how well the HammerJaw kept up with the Bomber using only three wheels!

For a budget minded axle shaft upgrade you can order 2 pairs of cheap AR60 (Wraith) CVDs on Ebay or Amazon $10-12 shipped. Take the long ones and cut to length then grind flat the sides for 8mm to fit the locker spool. Make sure to order a pair of the aluminum HSP lockers part #180009. Alternatively, I ended up buying a set of AR60 (Axial Wraith/Bomber) style aluminum complete axle assemblies on Ebay made by Xtra Speed (Front #XS-AW-1XS Rear #XS-AW-1XS) This is not a budget minded option. Due to the Off Center Pumpkin/Differential you will need to flip the transmission skid plate around to the other side for drive shaft alignment. You will also need different shocks as the mounts on these axles are the industry standard narrow size. I got a set of 4 blue 90mm dual spring shocks for $24 shipped on Amazon with faux reservoirs (for looks). It also needed longer drive shafts so I ordered steel 122-151mm CVD drive shafts($23 Amazon). Again, all of this starts to add up in total price. The truck has 2.2 aluminum wheels and brass beef patties wheel weights (the new axles don't seem to break with these heavy weights on like the stock did). I have decided that over time I am going to slowly convert this into a Ultra 4 style rig. I have an all aluminum Wraith style 2 speed transmission (got for my bday). I love the truck and I going to run the body until it falls apart then convert to a rock bouncer metal cage body (which will likely require a wraith center skid plate). I normally run 1.9 1/10 trail trucks with my friends but when I go alone I like to keep a faster pace on the mountain so this truck is being built to accommodate that. The bigger 2.2 wheels, wider stance, more ground clearance, and lower gearing with faster motor all help this cover rocky rough ground faster than a 1.9 rig. I also make my own 2 stage foams using 1/2 inch thick EVA foam mats (Walmart or Harbor Freight are cheapest) and 1 inch thick open cell foam from a craft store. I had High hopes for the stock Hammerjaw axles as they are a HSP part so I wanted them to end up in a lot of different trucks (Red Cat uses them in the Camo TT and X4 as rears) thus leading to more aluminum and steel upgrades but it didn't happen. So I Went with the AR60 Wraith axles as I am sure I'll be able to get parts for a long time. I am really tough on my rigs and need spares ( I give 6-10 hours a week of mountain trail abuse to the hobby). I believe that cheaper alternative of using 2 sets of cheap Wraith CVDs in the HSP axle housing will work. It is now one of my favorite trucks and still overall cheaper than a modded Wraith or Bomber (I call it budget Bad A$$). I hope this helps.

Hsp 180009 is the part number for the metal lockers. They are a drop-in replacement for the plastic lockers.

Got my hammer jaw modded up,i used wraith front cvds-retrofitted them,1080 esc,550 motor {red cat},32 pitch pinion gears with traxxas new style slipper clutch/knock off axial bead locks,better tyres,winch,and better paint job...this thing is a beast would put up against a trx4 any day.

Have you done the wraith front cvd conversion yet....its easy just cut to same length then flatten to fit diff center.You have to use the long ones,so buy 2 sets from amazon...they are like 12-14 bucks a set well, worth it been running mine now for a while- with no issues. ,

Nice man! It's cool that you picked this up to see what it can do. Did you ever end up finding universals or CVDs that would fit?

I bought Wraith axles but I need an Axial spool before I can install them. Hopefully soon!

Me too! I bought some wraith CVAs but I haven't had time to fit them. They need to be cut down and the ends reshaped.

Aftermarket Redcat gen 7 metal lockers should work. I have Gen 7 steel gears in my Hammerjaw transmission with no modifications.

They do. I used the same HSP spools that I used in my Gen7.

@@BudgetRC_Channel I left the plastic lockers in as sacrificial parts to save the front axle dog bones (can't find new ones).I stocked up on them.

@@cjboa that's definitely a solid plan, I just don't want to continually deal with that on the trails. There's definitely going to be some work involved when I break an axle, but I'll deal with that when I get there. I've got some ideas for that already.

Budget RC I turned mine into a crawler slowing it down with a 35 turn motor, it puts less strain on the parts and it’s one hell of a crawler.

I have another version of the hammer jaw, and like you, I was pretty impressed. I did smoke 2 servo's in a few minutes run time, as for the lockers, those axles are the Everest 10, HSP units. parts, and upgrades are common, and cheap. I might have to check this spot out next time I go to Carlisle.

@@BudgetRC_Channel I'm thinking I should get a bunch of those lockers. I have many rigs using those axles, I have never broken one though. Only broken the steering knuckles

This is similar to the E10 but larger. I have no experience with the RidgeRock, but I believe that's smaller too.

This is pretty cool, please let us know how the repair goes. BTW, I just got my Gen 8 to run in the RC4WD WCSC and it performed amazingly and I'd like to thank you for your input on that decision even though you didn't know you helped.

I'm glad I could help! The spool repair is a piece of cake. I put in the same HSP lockers that I used on my Gen 7. Since the procedure is exactly the same, I didn't show it.
