Budgie is another one of those bands that I just loved as a kid in the '70s. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where Budgie were as big as Led Zeppelin, Kiss or Black Sabbath. They were played on the local rock radio station constantly and were a huge concert draw. Oddly, I thought they were a massive multi-platinum band until I moved out of state for a while and discovered that no one had heard of them. These guys were just stellar!

My theory for why these guys never made it big was because their frontman was a pasty-faced Welshman with Coke-bottle glasses and an octave too high voice. But fuck everybody else, we know how good they were! And I still might change my last name to Burke!

@Lennyofbassist9 жыл бұрын
Alex Threadgill They were actually a really big deal back in the day, which is why you've got bands like Metallica and Van Halen, even Iron Maiden occasionally covering Budgie's material. Their staying power just wasn't all there, despite it being them and Judas Priest that helped lay the grounds and expand on the more 70's style of metal.
@ledavalon71187 жыл бұрын
it might also be because bands like Zeppelin and Sabbath were reigning supreme in the rock industry at the time so there was a lot of established competition.

Seems to me that one of their greatest attributes is that they dont record music that they cant duplicate live. The albums don't contain the dozens of overlays that most bands employ to fluff -up their music. It's left with that beautiful raw edge that sets these guys apart. All other bands that are unable to create the fullness exhibited by this three piece must yield the right of way.DOT!
