Burke wrote this when he was 15 and finally recorded this phenomenal track at 22 yrs young. My Fave. the words really hit home. Burke sang this style as a tribute to Shirley Bassey who is still very popular, according to my friend Neil in Wales. Ray Phillips is a double bass drummer. as for guitar sounds as Seagulls, well they all lived in Tyger Bay so could be but Tony did so many different sounds on his axe. Peace. (>‿◠)✌

Budgie were a criminally underrated Welsh rock band. Led by Burke Shelley (RIP), this power trio produced excellent rock albums through the 70's and early 80's. Thanks for the upload and reaction to one of my favorite tracks of theirs, off the amazing album "Never Turn Your Back on a Friend". Happy holidays to all.

Tony Bourge was a monster on lead guitar. Probably one of the most under-rated guitarist ever.

IN the Budgie COMPACT DISC, “An Ecstasy of Fumbling - The Definitive Anthology” is a booklet with a brief autobiography by Burke Shelley. Like Geddy Lee, some rock fans did not like Shelley’s singing voice. He grew up with an eye disease that left him legally blind and he had to wear bottle-coke lens in his eyeglasses. He did not smoke, take drugs and only drank a beer on a very rare occasion. Because of his eye condition, he became interested in health and fitness and swam and lifted weights. On one tour stop, he mentions going for a run in the afternoon. His healthy lifestyle aided in the strength of his vocals. Some of Budgie songs are heavy like Black Sabbath, jazzy or funky.

don't know how they made the bird noises but on the note please check out Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Nightingales & Bombers - As Above So Below (1975) "The title of this album was inspired by a recording made in Surrey, England during the Second World War, by an ornithologist intending to record Nightingales. The bombers flew over at the same time and were recorded by accident. The recording has been incorporated in 'As Above, So Below'". - Manfred Mann 1975[3] (In fact, the recording was made on May 1942 by a BBC sound engineer for the BBC. Intending to capture the nightingale's song he also, by accident, recorded the sound of RAF bombers on their way to attack Mannheim, Germany.)

I believe the seagull noises were indeed produced by Tony Bourge on the guitar. Criminally underrated guitarist (and band in general). Listen to the riffs and guitar solo in Hot as a Docker’s Armpit… kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWXCqJZsn8ekq9U
