I have been a Sabres fan since 1973 (yes, I'm THAT old!) and can say that I am NOT disappointed with the results of the draft. Adams knew that teams would not be willing to deal unless they knew they could fleece him, and he wasn't going to fall for that. They landed this year's potential Zach Benson in Konsta Helenius, who I would love to see on a line with Benson and either Kulich or Savoie for a new "Kid Line'. Give Lindy Ruff a chance to work with what's there, and then pass judgement. Adams knows that should the Sabres not make the playoffs next spring, he will be the one shown the door! But when I look at the goaltending situation, the defense, and the forwards, with Ruff as coach, I am once more optimistic that the playoff drought ends next spring! Would the addition of a big name 'power-forward' help...YES! But listening to a whiner like you does not help the situation at all!

After 13 seasons of no playoffs in a league were almost half the teams make the playoffs yearly fans like myself are allowed to "whine" or just simply hold the franchise accountable because we are tired of watching a shitty team. I was disappointed because they couldn't get something done to help the middle 6 and we already have a logjam at "highend" prospects and there isnt room for them all. They signed a few guys to help in free agency but I guess time will tell how they fit

They should not have bought out Skinner this year. They should've waited a year and put him with Tage/Tuch all season. I'm confident that had they not done that, we would almost certainly make the playoffs this year. Now I doubt it, unless someone steps up hard. I want to see Savoie!

@@gootvansquid Cozens needs a healthy Jack Quinn to bring out his best. Peterka showed he had taken a step up last year, now we need all three playing their best, and the future will have hope. The same goes for Benson. It depends on who his line-mates are. I have confidence that Ruff will work out the best matchups, and make it clear to all the players that those who do not commit 100% to making the playoffs will be sitting on the bench, or up in the Press Box!

It was not a disappointing draft. Not at all. Got 2 excellent, excellent players. Free agency is right around the corner (tomorrow), they will have ample opportunity to overpay to fill a couple holes. If Lindy Ruff is half as good as people say he is, the Sabres already have enough pieces to make the playoffs. Add a couple more grinders/defensive guys and they are good to go.

I think the Sabres need multiple middle 6 guys to round out the roster and provide depth scoring. Honestly idc about who they drafted this season because we have they don't help us THIS year. A couple of points: 1. NOT a fan of Kevyn Adams' MISmanagement of the Jeff Skinner contract buy-out. The entire Sabres team had a "down" year and disappointing non-fulfillment of playoff expectations -- NOT "just" Skinner. I'm sure everyone will rebound with greater energy and purpose under Lindy. It would have been FAR better to retain Skinner this season and see how the season started unfolding before attempting a trade or release. 2. The NHL needs to step in "for the good of the sport" and totally revise the no-trade/no movement clause problem in player contracts. Several critical revisions are necessary: a) Require players FIRST to be (at least) a 10 year NHL veteran before they can even qualify for a restrictive no-trade, no-movement clause in their contract; b) In the rare circumstances where a veteran player has such a restrictive clause in his contract, LIMIT the player's "absolute veto" to ONE or at most TWO teams. I understand that it's right for a lengthy veteran who has "paid his NHL dues" to have a singular "silver bullet" or two at his disposal for family needs/considerations, BUT NOT to the ridiculous extent extent of lengthy lists that hold multiple teams -- and essentially the entire league -- hostage. c) For those lengthy veterans who have no-trade/no-movement clauses in their contracts (not every 10+ year BJL veteran will necessarily even have such a clause in his contract), they CAN revise their one or two veto team/city list EVERY season -- BUT ONLY ONCE per season, AND that revision election MUST OCCUR sometime between the beginning of the new season following completion of training camp and the end of Christmas week, NLT 31 December. By Christmas, the family school situations are settled, and it enables teams/GMs a fairer opportunity to tweak their rosters well in advamce of the "trade deadline scramble." d) Come up with LEAGUE incentives to get players to WAIVE their no-trade/no-movement clauses to help open up trading commerce between/among ALL teams in the NHL 3. WHY don't other GMs want to deal with Kevyn Adams (especially since he gives up too much Sabres capital in trades)? Maybe he needs to do a deep self-assessment and change some of his ways (???)

First thank you for watching second that is alot to unpack lol Skinner was likely bought out because while I still believe he likely has a good amount left in the tank his defensive inefficiencies could no longer be overlooked in the sake of offense. While I dislike some of the crazy NTC or NMC I believe in order to revise that the NHL and NHLPA would both have to agree and I highly doubt that would happen atleast not to the extent at which you are talking about. I could see them possibly agreeing to a lesser deal of something like a maximum of 10 team NTC which could be revised every year
@wingedbuffalo4670
@wingedbuffalo4670 4 ай бұрын
@@sportstalkbuffalo3775 Many thanks -- and you are correct that changes to the NTC/NMC paradigm would likely require buy-in/support from the NHLPA; notwithstanding my lengthy input, I had intended to mention that aspect as well, but forgot to include it as my text went on. This is my thought on that: THIS IS (or at least should be) TRULY a "FALL ON YOUR SWORD" ISSUE for the NHL, the "good of the entire sport" of hockey, and the competitive balance of the league. To me, this SHOULD be so important to the NHL that they ought to LOCK OUT THE PLAYERS at the next CBA if the NHLPA refuses to go along with this much needed reform. Here's the bottom line: it's a VITAL issue because it GOES TO THE VERY HEART OF HAVING TRUE COMPETITION in the LEAGUE and an OPPORTUNITY FOR TEAMS TO IMPROVE. "BAD" teams can have all the salary cap room in the world to spend, but if good veteran players have nearly unlimited rights of refusal to be traded to such franchises, those teams will NEVER have a legitimate opportunity to improve, be competitive, and/or attract fans willing to spend $$$ on them (that fuels player salaries)! Then it will only be a matter of time before teams go the way of the Atlanta Flames, Quebec Nordiques, Minnesota North Stars, Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes, Colorado Rockies (hockey "Rockies," not baseball "Rockies"), original Winnipeg Jets, California/Oakland Golden Seals, KC Scouts, Cleveland Barons, etc. All of those teams were located in cities/municipal areas plenty large enough and/or hockey-crazed enough such that those teams SHOULD have thrived and the cities should have NEVER lost those teams ... yet they all folded or relocated to "greener pastures." It's NOT "right," nor is it in the NHL's competitive best interest to have a league where the vast majority of competitive teams are ones in major media markets with tons of corporate sponsorships, endorsement deal opportunities for players, and/or NO TAXES whereby player salaries go further (e.g., Florida, Tampa, Dallas, all have NO State income tax). Similarly, "BAD" teams can stockpile all the draft picks in the world too, yet it will take them years and years to finally assemble a competitive team exclusively that way ... unless/until previous top draft picks from 4 and 5 years earlier decide to "jump ship" in free agency, thereby depleting the core of good players (thereby consigning the team to perpetual rebuilding). If teams can't trade for good veteran players because no-trade clauses and no-movement clauses in player contracts "veto" those moves, the NHL may as well shrink to half of its size (maybe a little larger), eliminate all the bad teams in "undesirable" locations as far as the spoiled players are concerned, and simply have a smaller league of teams solely in certain "prized" areas. There was a time when virtually EVERY NHL player felt blessed to belong to any team in the world's best league and to make a very lucrative living playing a game they loved. No longer ... now too many take it for granted and "want everything their way." These selfish players will end up killing the goose tha lays the golden egg ... if they force enough teams to fold, that translates into FEWER ROSTER SPOTS AVAILABLE league-wide for these players to be able to continue making a rather nice living. I spent a career in the military, and people HAD NO "TRULY VIABLE" OPTION to "TURN DOWN" orders/a new assignment (the analogue of a player trade to a new location) -- if you declined the orders offered, YOU HAD TO GET OUT of the military. There is no similar consequence to an NHL player who refuses a trade (NOT necessarily saying NHL or any pro sports athlete ought to be kicked out of their league for refusing a trade, BUT I am saying that GREATER BALANCE MUST BE STRUCK). That's why I believe the following are REASONABLE compromises: a) Must be at least a 10 year NHL veteran to qualify for a NTC/NMC b) Players can have a NTC/NMC list of only ONE or TWO no-kidding teams they can't be shipped off to (a list of 10 teams is WAY TOO MUCH) c) The list can be revised every new season, but ONLY ONCE and it must be done NLT 31 December d) The NHL can/should create incentives for players to waive their NTC/NMC provisions.
@sportstalkbuffalo3775
@sportstalkbuffalo3775 4 ай бұрын
@wingedbuffalo4670 That would give too much power to the owners/teams, and the NHLPA would 100% never agree to that. They just need to limit the teams for a NTC.
@wingedbuffalo4670
@wingedbuffalo4670 4 ай бұрын
@@sportstalkbuffalo3775 I respectfully disagree. Just what is "too much power to the owners/teams" anyway ??? IMO, I believe that the PLAYERS "have too much power" when they can effectively hold HOSTAGE teams and their FAN BASES (you know, the people who actually PAY for the product and enable all the players to live lavish lifestyles and owners to make plenty of money too). IMO, NOT ENOUGH CONSIDERATION of the FANS takes place in any of these "power struggles." I don't care about players or owners having "more" power; I care #1 about the game and #2 about the FANS ... and things which work to restrict/eliminate teams' ability to improve themselves (e.g., such as players refusing to be traded to team "x, y or z") are BAD for the game and for the FANS and thus need to be severely curbed if not eliminated. I know the NHLPA most certainly will "NOT LIKE" any scaling back on the NTC/NMC "power" they have been allowed to accumulate and hold -- but TOO BAD. I believe my proposal is eminently FAIR (giving them 1 or 2 "silver bullet" teams they can avoid in a trade -- but more than that is UNJUST to the FANS because it severely restricts teams' abilities to trade for good players to improve the team. I would hope that the NHLPA would understand this from the FANS' PERSPECTIVE if it were carefully explained to them and then (grudgingly) agree to it. And if they don't, I say "screw them" (as Herb Brooks would say) and fight to the mat for it -- even if that means a lockout.

You need to work on consistency if you’re going to armchair GM. Complains Konsta is a prospect saying we don’t need more prospects. Implies they should have used that pick to trade for an actual nhl player now. Then acknowledges that no teams were willing to trade during the first round. Says players don’t want to come to buffalo, then complains GMKa can’t land them. Unless GMKA over-compensates to make up for the high tax rate how is he to get a guy that would otherwise pass on Buffalo? I know this guy will complain if he does. Konsta was ranked higher than 6th (3rd overall) by at least one source, he ranked #1 player out of the EU as well. Konsta has better than even odds to make the club IMO. Complains Malenstyn including the 43 overall pick was way over payment. I got news for you that pick would have been a prospect. Then he says. Malenstyn is the type of player they desperately needed. Malenstyn made 12k above league minimum last season, I don’t think this qualifies as overpayment when you don’t want more prospects. Malenstyn is a shot blocking hard hitting player, good on PK. Also literally EVERYONE says the 2nd round pick trade was a vast overpayment for Malenstyn, however I tried to soften to overpayment by stating that atleast he is a type of player I believe they needed to add a different element to Buffalo. Lastly I am WELL aware that the Sabres will likely have to overpay to attract someone to come to Buffalo so no I wouldn't be upset about it. How does the trade become an overpayment when you said Malenstyn is the type of player they “desperately” needed? Which I agree with. That pick would have been a prospect, instead we get a player for the now that won’t command a huge salary and will be a player the opposition won’t want to face. @@sportstalkbuffalo3775 Bro, both your examples make over 5 mil per season. Marinos cap hit is 6.2. You’re comparing apples to oranges. That would be overpayment. The Sabres were clearly looking for a player like Malenstyn. Guy blocked 93 shots had 241 hits and was fifth in league in shorthanded time on ice, and not commanding a huge contract. It appears you crave the flashy trade and FA signings. The Sabres have most everything they need in the roster. They were not pushed hard enough and held accountable. Proof is in their record 2 consecutive seasons especially at home. 17-20-4 (38pts) at home and 25-13 -3 (53 pts) away for 22-23 season. 21-19-1 (43pts) home, 18-18-5(42 pts) last season. They went backwards with the same core group. Donny was a bad coach, to close to his players. They played like wimps out there. Was any team nervous about facing the Sabres last season? Very doubtful. They lacked discipline. He should have never been so comfortable to allow them to call him “meatballs” even if was an affectionate nickname. @@sportstalkbuffalo3775 Cozens was an absolute joke last season. He should have been too ashamed to cash those very large paychecks he had just signed up for. He put in zero effort then went and played for Canada and had a great tournament. So he plays hard for free and coasts when he is getting paid. Makes sense. I dont expect anything better from Cozens this year. He was a one year fluke. Tage never stays healthy. I don't expect him to ever come close to those two seasons he had again. I think he also played way over his hear for two years but everyone caught on how to play him. I don't see anything on this team that even remotely says playoffs not to mention we rehired not a has been coach but a never was coach. His one year making it to the cup was right after Ted Nolan put a team together for him.

@Free2b56 as for Lindy he did guide a team to back to bank conference finals and a president's trophy so he definitely isn't a bad coach. Tage correct doesn't seem to stay healthy. Do I think he will out up 94 no however I think IF healthy I think 70-80 a realistic. Cozens also I think 55ish pts is realistic. Moral of the story is going to be health IF they all stay healthy their top 6 should be Fine Peterka is solid Quinn(when healthy) looked good Tuch should bounce back a little bit. 4th line will be decent the biggest question is line 3

@@sportstalkbuffalo3775 they only count how many Stanley cups you win when you're a coach. Lindy has won zero. Only come close once. Two other times they were "in the conversation" and they choked. People keep saying it if it's some kind of truth. Reality is that the owners are currently still paying for multiple coaches AND GMs to NOT be on the team in an effort to win. A cheap owner doesn't do that. The Sabres have spent to the cap a majority of his time as owner a cheap owner doesn't do that. They have tried 4 different GMs and 7 different head coaches. Idk what else an owner can really do

If the Sabres don't grab some good Defenders out of free agency, they will most likely have another horrible year. There are a lot of good names listed that are still available including Brady Skjei of the Carolina Hurricanes and T.J. Brodie of Toronto Maple Leafs. Kevin Adams needs to give Lindy Ruff players that he can rely on.

Pretty pleased with the guys they drafted especially the goalie from Mississauga . He had the best save% (909%) in the OHL last season and I saw him play a few times and his pretty good . Not looking forward to free agency as I cant see any players coming here unless Adams vastly over pays .That being said I hope he goes after Johnathan Marchessault, Jake Debrusk and Chandler Stephenson. So with all the open spots Adams better start making trades to fill all the open roster spots because if he has to rely on kids to fill the spots its going to be a long season and it will most likely cost Adams his job. 100% agree about yesterdays trade...a second round pick for a 4th line is a massive over payment ! Mangiapane went for a 2025 second pick and I dont think he had Buffalo on his no trade list because hes from Bolton just north of the Sewage pit aka Toronto. Also look at what Tampa got for Jeanott although maybe Tampas GM didnt want to deal with a divisional team. I know the offer sheet is usually matched but maybe Adams can offer sheet Necas . Carolina and Buffalo already Hate each because of 2006 . 😊.Lastly with Skinner being bought out Adams better use all that extra cap space or fans will be pissed! Thanks for the video.

@@sportstalkbuffalo3775 My sentence about another center was messed up. I meant Zucker is acceptable, but it doesn't totally fill our need, as you stated here. We have what; Krebs, Malynstyn and Lafferty as our 3/4th center options? I've seen evidence Lafferty has potential above a 4th line position, but in a year where we swear we're making the playoffs again, that's quite a gamble. Projections say Krebs isn't supposed to be a 4th liner, and he's done nothing to indicate he's going to produce anywhere else :/ If we can't make a trade with Krebs and/or Benson and pick(s), and maybe another pickup for 3rd line center, I don't see how we're making the playoffs this year. I had two different people this weekend say that the reason the Sabres can't get better is because of us "negative fans". Not the owner who hasn't kept a single promise he made when he bought the team. Not the GM who hasn't made a single good trade or game changing signing. Not the coach wry just fired or the coach we fired for not winning that we just rehired claiming now he can win I guess. I mean we did only give him what....fifteen seasons? Not the players who thought showing up and competing two games in a row was too hard last season. Not the trainers who can't seem to manage to keep decent players in game shape. Nope. It's me. The guy who pays $120 a month for cable and I don't watch a single thing on it outside of hockey and football. The guy who buys hats and tshirts and if I can afford it and have a ride to get there from where I live the guy who buys tickets a couple times a year and haven't managed to get there for a good game/win in literally years. A couple times the game was over in the first period. Yup. Folks like me are the problem. People who want a little something for the little money I can afford to spend. So sorry Sabres fans. I did not realize me wanting to see my favorite sports franchise actually win something once before I die was the problem. I feel so guilty.

Fans have earned the right to be negative after 13 seasons of no playoffs. However the losing isn't for lack of trying by the Pegula there have been 4 different GMs and 7 different HC since he took over so it's not for a lack of trying on his part. They have seemingly restarted multiple times. This season I am less optimistic however I do like their depth and if the top 6 can produce at a decent clip they have a shot at being a bubble playoff team. Also I did a video about who I wanted them to hire as HC and Lindy was a last choice but he has had very good seasons with every team he has coached and for nostalgia reasons it would be cool to see him get Buffalo back to the playoffs. Thanks for watching (also I spend 200 a month on cable basically for sports as well lol)
