Was really waiting for you to take a rightful shot at Kim & Terry. As someone who has followed the Sabres religiously for almost 20 years I honestly don't know what to say at this point. The legendary teams from 05-06 & 06-07 got me officially hooked on them. Even the teams of 09-10 & 10-11 that both made the playoffs were fun to watch and played with heart. These Sabres teams the last decade have no resemblance to the teams that brought me and many others to love this team. Those teams were made up of home grown talent, hard workers and strong trade deals. They played with incredible heart that always paid off. Terry bought the team and thought a blank check could solve any and all problems. Since buying the team, they've failed at drafting & developing any legit talent outside of Eichel. At this point, we are caught somewhere between Stockholm Syndrome and a train wreck you can't look away from. Buffalo sports fans are some of, if not the most loyal and devoted you will find. We don't need the flashy signings or the big personalities. We love the players and teams that go to work each day and play with passion and thats exactly where the Bills are right now. Kim & Terry have just completely sucked the life out of the Sabres and I honestly don't know how much I can blame any players at this point, they're set up only for failure. Maybe I am pathetic but to keep me sane, I always have to go back and watch videos/highlights of "the good times".

I remember the really good Buffalo teams of the late 90s/early 2000s. As a former Leafs fan, I remember that stifling defense Buffalo was known for. Guys like Alexei Zhitnik (who was a 40 point a year defenseman), Richard Smehlik (top pairing shutdown defender), James Patrick (corner crammer and physical defenseman), a young Jay McKee, Michael Grosek (20 goal scorer and Selke candidate), Dixon Ward (veteran forechecker who could give you 40 points a year), Mike Grier (physical forward who could hit 10 goals and 30 points consistently), Michael Peca and his thunderous hits and 25 goals a year, and obviously Dominik Hasek. Lindy Ruff was their coach, and was a damn good coach. Rick Jeannerette on commentary (iconic commentator and I loved how nuts he'd go when fights happened) That team was so hard to score on, and beating them took something out of the winning team.

Just some updates to the Sabres if you’re unaware: -Sabres’ losing streak did end, bot not until tying the all-time record at 18 straight losses. -Taylor Hall was traded away to the Boston Bruins and has been doing very awesome and is akin to how he played in Edmonton. -Goalie Linus Ullmark, the only player who has been consistently good (in fact, he’s been really good this season considering his lack of defence in front) is expected to test the free agent market this off-season.

They even made a great trade in the Eichel deal to get Krebs along with Alex Tuch, who is a Buffalo area native who's wanted to play for the Sabres his whole life. @MusicSim83 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was coming here to say this, Skinner's underlying stats have been good if not great, he's done what's been asked of him in a 4th line role taking on defensive minutes and has actually not been terrible despite him generally being bad at defense. Skinner was meant to be the Mogilny to Eichel's Lafontaine. That's what got him the deal, yet Krueger just hated the guy. (this comment not directed at you Derek)
@UrinatingTree3 жыл бұрын
That makes more sense. It seems that Skinner's TOI dropped by two minutes from 2019-2020 (seems like middle six time. Did he get sent to the doghouse in the middle of the year?), but it still doesn't explain the sharp drop in goal production.
@dereklasker53503 жыл бұрын
@@UrinatingTree if I recall correctly he started on the second line in 2019-20 and was dropped to the third soon after, I believe his most common linemates for the year were sheary and lazar. He also got taken off of the power play which definitely hurt his overall production, but his even strength goals per 60 was pretty close to his 40 goal season even though the raw totals were way lower. Then this year after skating with staal and Reinhart in training camp he gets dropped to the fourth line for opening night for “spreading scoring throughout the lineup and sticking to defensive principles” but then when he goes through a goal slump while still creating chances and putting up strong defensive numbers, Krueger scratches him. Yet the Reider-Eakin-Okposo line is the worst in hockey and it took Don Granato all of two minutes coaching this team to stop giving them minutes over the skinner line (which is now lazar and mittelstadt and they’re actually somewhat okay).

I mean, yes Wright is the guy you want to tank for cause he's the only one that's been on McDavid's level in the juniors but Owen Powers isn't too shabby. Granted he'll be completely fucked if he gets drafted with Buffalo and if that does happen he better pull a fucking Lindros.

This is honestly the most Sabres content I have watched in probably 8 years. I no longer live in Buffalo (although I grew up there and have been a fan of the Bills and Sabres my whole life) I can honestly say that I do not give a flying f*** anymore about the Buffalo Sabres. It pains me to say that but this team has been so irrelevant for so long, I don't see any reason to care. The Bills, on the other hand, are the identity of anyone that is from Western New York, and I can tell you (especially for those of us from there who now live elsewhere) it feels so frieking awesome to be able to walk around town wearing my Bills gear with some f-ng pride for the first time since the '90s! The Sabres though, are dead to me. GO BILLS!

Am I the only one who remembers how this Sabres culture started? Right after Ted Nolan got fired. He brought great coaches with him, under whom mediocre players excelled. Especially after getting back-stabbed multiple times when any good player got traded away so that the tanking season would not get jeopardized... all of that for a small chance of getting Babcock as theyr coach... Don Cherry placed a curse or he said that hockey gods would curse them for doing that to Ted... They deserve everything that they are getting.

One other point about how the Bills are run. Players willing to resign or restructure contracts to help the team. Case in point: Isaiah McKenzie said he'd be willing to get "paid in candy" to male sure to come back to play in Buffalo. Stefon Diggs stated if need be he'd be willing to restructure his contract so more money later years to keep the team in contention.

I'm only two minutes in, but Ken Dorsey deserves so much credit. Remember how skeptical people were when Buffalo took Josh Allen with his career 57% completion rate at Wyoming?
