When it comes to solid copper bullets I try to think of them in the next weight class up when it comes to how they perform. I.E. a 115 grain solid copper 9 mm bullet will perform similar to a 124 grain, or a 150 grain all copper bullet in 308 will perform more like a 165 grain lead bullet. Awesome video as always, it's nice to have these videos for a reference later on when making decisions.

The 9mm Pistol Carbines make the 9mm more deadly as accuracy is improved with two hands on the weapon and the increase in velocity. I think the LA SWAT team used a Ruger Carbine in the late 80's, early 90's as they found they could snip off the nuts on a fly at 100 yards. Good show.

There's a bright future for solid copper ammo. The performance is very consistent and predictable. They tend to do penetrate and be less deformed against harder substances and barriers compared to comparable lead core ammunitions. And they don't have the lead exposure risks of traditional ammo. That last pat may sound silly but health and environmental restrictions will become more stringent as time goes on.

Hey bud, have you done very many 243 Win videos? I'm working up a DPMS LR308 chambered in 243. Hoping to set it up in a SASS type format. I'm thinking my primary load is gonna be a 100 grain JSP, but I'm looking at other options in the 80-115 grain range for performance at the 500-700 yard range. Any suggestions?
@BuffRANGE2 жыл бұрын
Sorry my use of .243 was limited to some armor testing only.
@BuckFoeJiden2 жыл бұрын
@@BuffRANGE no worries bud, I appreciate the response! I've used the round pretty extensively from longer barrels (24-26") in hunting. Not entirely sure how it's going to act in a 20" barrel, but I suppose there's only one way to really find out! If you're interested in doing an AR build outside of 308 win or 6.5 Creedmoor (or the watered down .260 Remington) I definitely recommend .243 or 6mm Creedmoor. From what I've gathered through nerding through velocity and BC numbers, along with videos on comparable rounds (I've looked at a TON of 6mm ARC videos on terminal ballistics, and extrapolated that data onto .243 Win via velocity over range) I'm pretty confident in the 6mm projectile performance. I've leaned heavily towards .243 solely for the variety of ammo available, and I've used the 100 gr soft points to great effect on white tail in the northern Appalachian region. I've opted for a 1:8 twist to get decent stabilization across the widest range of projectiles, and feel pretty comfortable that I'll be able to take it out as far as 1,000 yards with the right loads. (107 grain is probably going to be what I run for long range, with a .55-ish BC, at around the 2800 fps range) and the 100 gr soft points for general use. I feel like the .243 fills a big gap between 5.56 and .308, and out of a SASS type setup, *should* out perform the 308, once a solid DOPE chart has been built up. Not gonna lie, my wallet is already lamenting the fact that so much of my ballistics for my 18" .308 have fallen in line with what's already out there, and now I'm going to have to actually put in some real work in load development for a new round lol. All part of the fun though, eh? Hope you're having a great day man, thanks so much for what you're doing here!

The 115gr gold dot is great. What's surprising is a 115gr chp that performs.
@MB-jg4tr2 жыл бұрын
Federal 147g HST is better at the same price point. Gold dots used to be the standard but HST has been outperforming them for many years now. There's hardly any difference between the penetration depth of HST in different grain weights in jelly tests, and the 147 does better holding together through barriers. It expands a bit more than the gold dot.
@rileyneufeld70012 жыл бұрын
@@MB-jg4tr With federals gen2 of the 147 HST it no longer expands bigger than the gold dot. I find it an improvement though since it would barely penetrate enough to meet FBI specs in it's gen1 version. Though they travel a bit slower and don't have a +P loading so I wouldn't use them in sub 3.5" barrels. The 124 hst in standard pressure or +P works great in micro pistols.
@MB-jg4tr2 жыл бұрын
@@rileyneufeld7001 the new 147g HST version does work well, it penetrates nicely, and actually still does expand a little more than the gold dots even out of subcompact barrels. Preforms very well out of my 3.4" barrel.
@rileyneufeld70012 жыл бұрын
@@MB-jg4tr Agreed. just wish they would make a +P or a short barrel variant so it would have enough velocity to reliably expand out of short barrels. Honestly wish 9mm's would go with 3.5" barrels anyways, that extra half inch helps with IWB carry to prevent the grip from tilting outward.

All 9mm handguns have an excess of twist to stabilize bullets. They usually have a 1:10" twist, while 9mm bullets only require 1:18" twist. There's no worry about these tumbling downrange...

Hey, I remember talking about the non +P Super Vel equivalent to this (standard pressure aka subsonic, with a softer temper; gets the same penetration and expansion as the featured ammo in your video) and getting roasted by a few rando commentors on this channel about it. Ha! Copper bullet weight, speed, and performance metrics are NOT comparable to cup and core.
@chaimafaghet73432 жыл бұрын
Didn't too too badly in the longer barrels, considering the copper bullet taking up all that powder space.
@Albinosnake19972 жыл бұрын
I wish underwood would load these up in +p or +p+
@BuffRANGE2 жыл бұрын
Need to be careful there. one of those +P+ from them took out the 16" ARV-9 :(
@calangel2 жыл бұрын
Super Vel makes the most effective version of this bullet due to the temper they use. They sell a +P and it gets a solid 1200fps from a 4" gun. Since these create more pressure than normal, a standard pressure is actually subsonic. These don't need the same speed as a lead core due to the thin mouth walls and internal cutting.
@rhyswilliam814610 ай бұрын
They do now come ins 1250 fps for +p and 1300 for +p+

The four and a half inch barrel length velocity is okay, I prefer myself to have closer to 1300 ft per second out of a 4 and 1/2 to 5 in Barrel. Why I like the Lehigh defense 124 grain hollow point that runs about 1,300 or better. The SBR should have been the highest velocity. Because usually you lose velocity after you get to 12 in. 10 to 12 in should be the highest velocity out of a 9 mm and out of that SBR that you have in this video that was abysmally low. 115 grain does not lend itself to being able to use much in the way of a little bit slower powder. And I am surprised at the velocity out of the 16-in barrel. But I don't recall hearing what the length of your SBR was. 25 yards and I don't know which gun you're shooting the accuracy test from. I hope that's not from the rifle.
