Sweetwater's Guitars and Gear, Vol. 124
Mitch Gallagher demonstrates the Bugera G5 Infinium 5W tube amp head. This 2-channel amp covers a wide sonic range, from clean to fully distorted, and puts out surprising volume for a 5-watt amp. The 3-band Tone Stack has a Morph knob that changes the tonal response from "USA" to "UK", emulating the character of classic American and British amplifier designs.
Perfect for practice and recording, the Bugera G5 Infinium has a switchable power attenuator for 5W, 1W, and even 0.1W operation. By lowering the power, you can crank up the amp to really get those tubes cooking while still keeping the volume at a manageable level.
And speaking of quiet practice sessions, the G5 Infinium also sports a speaker-emulated headphone output. A switch lets you choose between emulations of a 1 x 12" speaker cab and a 4 x 12" speaker cab, and you can even send this output directly to a mixer or recording device without miking up your cabinet.
Bugera's Infinium technology constantly adjusts the bias of the amp to best match your tubes, giving you optimal tube tone throughout the life of your tubes. For responsive tone at a great value, check out the Bugera G5 Infinium tube amp head. Thanks for watching!

I have had this same amp for 4 years and I love it! I have had no issues whatsoever. I'm old and I've been playing for decades. I've had all the cool old Marshalls and Fenders when I played live but these days I want something that I can crank up and get good tone out of without blowing out what is left of my hearing. I still have a great many electric guitars of all styles (Strats, PRS core, LPs & Jazz boxes) and can honestly say that this little amp with any of the cabinets I have will do whatever I ask of it. The 5 watt setting with a 2x12 or a 4X12 cab is PLENTY LOUD for a jam or small gig The 1 watt and even the 1/10th watt are both very valuable settings and are both great with a single 10 or 12. One of my favorite setups is plugging the headphone jack output into a single 12 inch speaker and having the amp right in front of me. It sounds like a big, vintage Marshall cranked up with controlled feedback, sustain and a killer Hendrix/SRV tone at a VERY low volume. I actually discovered this by mistake because I was plugged into the wrong jack! Now I mic that sound and use it for recording. This really is the best bang for the buck. Check it out!

Man i love that tone. not fizzy, meaty and saturated without sounding loose. i hate the fact that most high gain amps are fizzy till i always need to use my MXR10band to tame their fizziness to make the guitar tone fit in the mix better

I've had mine a couple weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier with it. I mostly play at "bedroom levels" at home at this point, so being able to knock the output down to 0.1 watts is perfect! One watt is too loud for my uses a lot of times. And it sounds great - anything from classic rock to Metallica style tone, and anything in between. Just have to tweak the amp and guitar controls to get the tone you want without unpleasant shrill highs, fizz, mudiness, whatever anyone else complains about. Spend more time tweaking the tone stack and the guitar and less time complaining that it "sounds bad"! ;)

I own the T5, one mod that you can do on either amps. Put 150pf caps connected to the inner pins on the Volume and Gain knobs, this will bring out more highs and help make humbuckers less dark. I have not tried the G5, but it seems like its a pretty sweet amp. But i did these mods on my T5 and just wow, why did they let the amp leave the factory without this is beyond me.

Nice amplifier for a reasonable price. Perhaps a guitar that Is a little more favorably paired with this relatively inexpensive amp? The Modern Eagle would sound good played through my toaster. I think all six of my guitars, my two amps, and 15 or so pedals would still not match the cost of that lovely guitar. :)

@Major Wheelock what is the primary purpose for this amp purchase? If low output sound at home, the Bugera G5 on .1 watt has decent articulation and is as satisfying at low volume as any amp can be to a guitar player, it loses low end throb, but any amp/speaker would at that wattage.The Marshall DSL 15H 15/7.5 watt, pushed provides that Marshall Presence and thinner British grunt, but produces a bit more volume.If small venue gigging headroom is needed the DSL 15H provides that and will push its matching twin 12” cabinet very nicely. The DSL 15C has reverb if so inclined.The little Bugera sounds fairly good at low attenuation and shows some life on the quiet side of volume. The Marshall provides more Signature British tone and headroom, if that’s your goal. I’ve played Marshalls since the mid-seventies without major issue. Bugera reliability, we will see in the coming months, I hear it’s gotten better.As with anything musical, better to test drive if at all possible, perfect guitar tone is very nuanced and subjective. I chased it for 40 years. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Not bad. Just realize what you're getting. The clean channel is truly a tube amp, and all seems good. The gain channel essentially just puts an OD/distortion "pedal" in front of it. And all in an over-sized enclosure that hopefully isn't made of particleboard that's going to fall apart. If it's physically sturdy, electronically reliable, and not sloppily put together, I'm good with it.

i prefer, the Blackstar 5W head. Which is much more cleaner-fuller in sound. Bugera (this head is similar to blackstar) is between fuzz (prefuzz) sound, with overdrive. It's sound muddy to me. That's my opinion. Nice preview, to those who like this specific sound, it's a must Have HEAD!!!!

@InTheSh8
@InTheSh8 7 жыл бұрын
An OD functions with almost any analog amp out there. You will be able to tighten up the sound even more. I don't know if Dorje really use tubescreamers or other OD's in front of the amp. They usually have a more loose attack and not too much gain. They are incredible guitarists and no matter what amp they usually make everything sound great. Be sure to set the gain to 0 when using your OD in front of the distortion channel. If you wanna sound like Rabea you have to consider to buy a higher wattage amp, like 50w. I have a Jet City 20w and it can't translate those thick string gauges in the 0.70 area like Rabea uses on some of his guitars. It's not only the wattage, also the preamp's concept has to be suitable for lower tunings.

The Blackstar is still better! All this really has going for it is the valve manager. THAT is a good innovation! Thumbs up to Behringer for that. Price wise I don't think there is a great difference. SOME of Bugera's other amps, ARE more cost effective. I've owned 2 and loved both of them. Have a H&K TM18 & it is just head & shoulders above anything in the cheap, valve lunch box amp department! It's definitely a step UP in features and sound!

+jonnda I have and Orange OR15 and it sounds pretty good. Great for mid gain rock and pretty decent cleans. However it is much too loud to get a good high gain tone living in a townhouse. Definitely not what I would consider a "tight" sounding amp, even with a boost in front.

I was not disappointed when I got my G-5.. heh.. It was kind of supposed to be a lark.. But once I started playing it I could not stop. . I have had it about a month now, and it blew a power tube.. I read in their warranty they cover valves.. I called them and they took care of the situation.. REGISTER your stuff when you get it. Man it makes it easier for warranty issues. -- As for Sweetwater who is the one behind this bit of marketing video.. Whatever.. The whole darn place rocks.. from the floor to above the ceiling. I don't know them, I owe them nothing, but time and time again (like today, which is what brings me here) of late, they go WAY beyond expectations on almost every front.. (now they owe me 5 bucks.. ha). But seriously.. I love those guys .. and gals.. My next order is coming tomorrow, they called me after I ordered, they are super nice and even pretend to enjoy your conversations on the phone. I've not a single negative thing to say about their outfit. And that is like .. a first?

I like this amp, but I wanna know... how long does a tube last and will this amp become more high gain if I replace the stock tubes with a set of 6L6 tubes?
@trillrifaxegrindor4411
@trillrifaxegrindor4411 6 жыл бұрын
you cant just put whatever tubes into an amp that you feel like,it doesn't work that way sorry. if this takes el84 tubes,thats what you have to put in.if it takes 6v6 tubes,thats what you have to put in. tubes last forever if they arent smashed or banged around aggresively,they used tubes in tv's ,stereos,radios for several decades.tubes needing to be changed is a complete lie.whatever tubes this came with are what you need to put back in

I am looking to get a low watt tube amp... Between this one or the DSL 1HR1W Can you do a review of some of the top micro tubes? Micro Terror Bassbreaker 007 Marshall and the Bugera using more average guitars?

@@nickolaynaydenov3292 the bugera. Great reviews but I play an Epiphone SG and a Jackson 32 Dinky so the pickups are most likely not as good... anyway thanks for the reviews!

So Mitch - Could I run this Direct into an Audio Interface using that 1/4" Emulated Output and basically have Tube Head Silent Recording???
@sweetwater
@sweetwater 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Scott. Yes, you can have a great sounding silent recording solution by doing this, while still retaining that great tube amp tone. Additionally, you're given two different cabinet types - a 1x12 cabinet and a 4x12 cabinet. Each one of these options will work well, no matter what kind of guitar tone you're going for. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me anytime. Thanks for the interest! Chris Arnold, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1709, chris_arnold@sweetwater.com

Hello everybody, m concidering on buying Bugera G5 head for silent recording in my bedroom directly connecting to my audio interface. I don't have a cabinet. The problem is that I've read on the internet, that tube amp head MUST be always connected to a cabinet, otherwise you will ruin your amp. Can someone explain how it works?

+Edvinas Ceilytka I had a vox night train that I used to use as a desktop amp. While on my desk, I didn't have it hooked up to a speaker cab. I never noticed anything wrong with the amp after doing that. If I remember right I read that you can leave the amp on standby and use the headphone output. Again, I don't know if I am remembering that right but I will find out soon because I just ordered the amp.

+Edvinas Ceilytka Also, I know that some tube amps have a dummy load so that when you do disconnect the speaker there isnt a problem.
@trillrifaxegrindor4411
@trillrifaxegrindor4411 6 жыл бұрын
tube amps generally need a load(a speaker of pre determined ohm rating)you can buy a device to emulate the speaker load and plug the amp into it as well.

Noob question, does the head have any internal speaker, can it work on its own?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater 5 жыл бұрын
The head (and pretty much all others) doesn't have an internal speaker, so it does require a cab to operate. In fact, running a head without a cab connected can cause serious damage, so it is a good rule to remember that anytime you're running a head to have a cab connected. Thanks for your interest! As long as you don't need pristine cleans 5 watts tube is plenty. For gigs where we're mic'ing the amps, I use a 5 watter all the time. But I also like the sound of an amp pushed to its limits.
