@ bas family farm. Have you guys looked into geo thermal? There is a zero electricity style that goes 6 to 10 feet into the earth with 6" or bigger drainage tubes. Black plastic with drain holes. You bury them but leave the ends out of the ground. Then you just slowly circulate the air from the greenhouse through the tubes. It cools snd heats. The earth is 40 to 60 degrees everywhere on earth depending on the depth. 8ft is almost always 45 to 50 degrees f. If you are interested I can send you or Jeremy some videos. The whole thing goes underneath the greenhouse. There's a guy in Nebraska who grows tropical fruit inside a greenhouse like this and has been successful doing so for many years .

"To save energy, queen bumblebees hibernate in winter. They build a little nest or dig a burrow and spend the winter months there. She eats herself fat in the autumn and does not store honey in her nest like honeybees do". The workers naturally die at the end of the season, but the queen will find somewhere cosy to overwinter. That may be in the hive box, or somewhere else. Best to give her a choice - I would say leave the hive in the corner of the polytunnel over winter. Then in spring, take a peek in and see if the queen has survived. If so, she may build up her colony again.

I am a beekeeper. This late in the season, the bees need a hive set up. They won't last long in that box once they use all of their food stores. Since there is not a nectar flow now, they need to be fed. Might be best to find a local beekeeper to help set that up ASAP

If you keep the bees in the green house during the winter they'll slowly eat the honey and then rejuvenate in the spring when there's more food. You might need to feed them a couple times. If you put them outside they may die over winter. Being so incredible though they be able to swarm and build a warm enough hive before it freezes too much. Or give them to a beekeeper that can put them in a overwintered hive.

You might want to put those bees in a bee box like they would have for honey production and give them lots of sugar water so they have enough food for the winter and it really helps if you can insulate the bee box with bails of hay or something, really increases their chances of survival if they don’t have to try as hard to stay warm over winter

Hi, love your content. for the bees, the only thing you need to do for them to survive a the winter is to make sure they have enough honey honey (couldn't resist), by not harvesting in late autumn. you can put them outside somewhere safe (away from the pigs) and they should survive if they can. otherwise i'm sure there's a local apiculturist willing to take them off your hands. good surgery and recovery. bye

Really interested in the winter series I've tried planting some lavender heat of summer 0 survivors the stuff I planted in the winter are just monsters I put an inch of soil on the fresh sprouts and even put snow and dirt on the snow. I got a potted lavender in the spring and just got 20 cuttings they look exactly like I got them from outside

Professional beekeeper here - Not sure what I was seeing there with the bees you got, and also getting them from out of your state is never good, muchless from the Netherlands. I actually did know you could get them from overseas! 😅 I highly suggest seeking out a source of local-ish bees there near you in your area. Bees that live in Colorado will not do good in Texas, and Texas bees would not do good in Colorado just as an example. Your weather situation is very particular there and you’ll need bees that are able to handle your short spring and summer, and long cold periods. Plain and simple, they just won’t make it if you get them from out of state. I am a natural treatment free beekeeper, which is comparable to the natural process that goes on with living soil. I do nothing for my bees, and I breed from the ones that survive. You need to find someone nearby doing what I’ve been doing, that breeds bees that can handle your weather and seasons. I also suggest looking into swarm traps and catching honeybee swarms in the spring time. You’re providing a box that a wild honeybee swarm would be interested in moving into, and usually it works great. Good luck, love y’all’s channel.
