Framing 10/10! But because you asked - you have to flash window/door frames on all 4 sides usually 3" on the sheathing and 3" onto the frame. Then install the windows with calking all around, but over hang the frame so it clears your siding. Then install counter flashing and then your finish siding. Water is going to come off the window and get between your siding.

Bro I hate to be the bearer of bad news but $15,000 is like 50 years of gym memberships. 🤣 I kid, it looks awesome! Every time I watch one of these full builds, I always get inspired first, and then daunted by just how much time finishing everything takes. It always get to a point that I feel like the build is almost done and I think I could do it myself, and then I'll check the time and I'm not even halfway through it. Mad respect!

in terms of how much time & money you spend commuting to a gym, the possibility of it being full, and peace being priceless, i think building a gym is worth it to some people. 50 years worth of memberships are useless if you’re paying & not going regularly.

Yea it might be 50 years of membership but I bet that $15K investment increases the value of his home by $50K. Typically on projects over $10K, people will consult with a financial counselor in whether this is a good investment. So I’m pretty sure he did his homework. Also, it’s his money so he can do whatever he wants with his money. It would be different if it was a loan or his parents money.

If you get any heat about not having staggered joints on the subfloor, those people are not competent builders. Ignore them. Also, what a great neighbour! One thing I noticed is next time, don't put sealant under your windows, and always shim them up a 1/4" to 1/2". If any moisture gets by your flashing, it will have nowhere to go and will just rot in the window jamb area.

You needed to put “Z” flashing between the siding. Water will get inside the seam. You can’t rely on caulking. The window flashing (the sticky kind) needs to be done from the bottom to top so there is always an overlap on your seams. You put your sides on first, then the top then the bottom. Any water that comes down the top will rook under that flashing. Your window frames should have had a bigger gap between the framing so when the earth moves, it won’t break the glass. I can’t tell but your floor joists should have been pressure treated since they are touching those concrete blocks. If they get wet they will rot out.

You, good sir, are a carpentry genius! You're very skilled in other areas as well, such as doing all the electrical yourself. Seeing your precious son assisting you & your wife @ 27:53 made me smile huge. I actually wondered, while watching your Part 1 vid, if you learned from your dad. I'd love to hear about your training. Thanks for sharing this & for including materials used info w/discounts in description. God bless you & your entire family!

I LOVE thie look of this building! I can't believe the town wouldn't let you rent it out!! Awesome for a gym space too tho!!

Who says you have to let the town know about renting? I have a shed that looks like a tiny house. I use it as a shed but I actually rent it now. No one knows, no one needs to know and I'm getting rent money to help me out

Depends on the area, but a lot of counties/towns have a building code that doesn't allow romex wiring. It also doesn't have AC/Heating, which many places require at least a heating element for livable spaces. Could be any one thing...

you would rent that little shack?

It would need plumbing and heating to be a liveable space, which would require permits, which would require certified professionals to complete the project.
