Jon B catch up with the cat from Bamabass. He built a 5 acre pond. He used a polymer additive to the water to seal up any possible leaks, it fills and hardens as it seeps out. Also goes over steps for stocking. It's a good series

As was suggested below Bama Bass used some sort of powder that made a gel and sealed the leaks on his dam and he didnt have to drain. Not sure how it would affect the fish though, If I remember correctly he did this before he stocked the baitfish.

Jon B go watch Bama Bass pond build. He had a leak in multiple spots and didn't have to drain his pond. It's a two part process that you just pour out in the water around the pond and it finds the leak sealing it

I wonder if that monster sized green sunfish is still in there, the one you found when you first bought the place. If there is a leak then two solutions, when BamaBass built his lake the damn was leaking, he poured some kind of non toxic sealant in and it fills in the cracks and expands, fixed his leaking damn. There is also always the well drilling options to refill it. I hope you stock your Maine pond again with an aerator this time.

Love the addition to the pond! Like many others have said, the polymer additive Bamabass added to his pond to seal the dam worked wonders and can be done with the pond full. I also think adding a small well would be great to be able to pump water in during the long dry texas months. It won't be too taxing on any aquifer underground due to the ponds smaller size and large amount of clay as you've mentioned. I think it would be a great way to "top off" the top when rain is in short supply to keep those big bass fat and happy!

Love your videos. Bentonite is a swelling clay. It can absorb up to 8 times its own volume in water. So as it expands it seals up any cracks or crevices. So long as it remains saturated with water it will seal the pond keeping the water in which leads to happy bass and other aquatic life.

One thing my family did to counteract those hot Texas summers at our farm pond was drill a well next to the pond and add a windmill. It provides a nice steady flow of oxygenated water when we hit these dry spells like this summer. It is obviously all wind power so no extra costs included after its installed and pretty low maintenance unlike some sort of electric well pump system.

I recently got a place in Tennessee that has about a half-acre pond, but an entire wall collapsed in mine, and the hillside it sits along became overgrown in the few years that the property was abandoned. I definitely agree with you to adding structure. In fact with the water level being low, you can do what you did in Maine, create structure with concrete in those gallon buckets but you could bury the bucket in the clay that way the structure doesn't move easily and etc. Idk. just a thought. An aerator would be nice too. Can't wait to see what comes next. :D
