This is very impressive series. I really love your filming and editing style. Timelapse usage and comments cover all the aspects really well. I'd encourage you to use audio commentary in upcoming videos as well, as previous one was text only and it was a little bit hard to follow. We refer quite often wooden houses as "Swedish houses", especially the ones with vertical siding and with Swedish red paint. We drove through pretty big chunk of Swedish countryside in the summer and I never realized that there are so many houses built in this style. I'm from Estonia by the way and while wooden houses are not anything super rare out here, it is much more common to see people using some sort of block these days for the walls. It is really interesting to see such an iconic Swedish design taking shape. And you have some serious building skills as well. There really is plenty to learn from these videos and I'm looking forward to the next one. All the best!

The algorithm managed to correctly recommend to me this channel - watched all episodes like a boxset over a couple of days. The format is excellent. The mix of common sense and experience over not always necessary guidelines while maximising the advantages of using standard measures to limit wood cuts. On the safety front Adidas beats the fliplops I use and helped me break a toe. Personal painful experience also taught me I couldn't trust myself constantly walking over trusses. That said I am an amateur/part time fool.

Nice facade, but you put only one layer of frames behind it. In Finland we put two layers crossing each other so you get better breathing for the facade panels.

I really like this facade! I always loved that Swedish houses have a cohesion with other houses around them, giving value to the whole community. Here in Germany, there are a lot of houses covered in plaster, and then painted weird colours that don't match. My Ex and I dreamed of having a house like this, near her family in Sweden. Our situation changed, but your channel means so much to me! I always wondered if a standard like the "CC" method existed in house building.

As a Norwegian most of the methods and materials seem familiar, but this is the best look into how it all comes together I've seen. As a lay person I would not attempt to build a house, but you give me confidence to maybe go deeper in the maintenance and repair of an old house we own.

Very attractive facade. I have been re-siding my "cape cod" style home in Minnesota in the US, which follows the same basic shape of your house, with the attic room being what we call a "half story". I added the ventilation gap behind the siding, which is such an uncommon practice here that the majority of siding contractors haven't even heard of it! That is one of the reasons I did the work myself. I'm using a composite wood called Smartside. I really wish I'd used real wood, as I don't like being constrained by the limited properties of composite wood, such as I'm not supposed to rip it down, miter it, etc. It means I can't get creative with trim details. I think the look of your house is simple but wonderful.

Looks very nice! I think we have almost the same building code in Norway, with the airspace between the wall and panel. Only question is, isnt it supposed to be ventilated at the bottom, so condensation can escape, and air circulate?
@mindsparx12 жыл бұрын
Hello neighbor, yes we build almost the same throughout Scandinavia. Panel has so many cracks that steam escapes easily. As long as no water gets in, there will be no issues. I have torn down 200 year old panel that was not ventilated and it has looked good.

I think the air gap is not enough. When paneling cross-wise, it also requires cross-collation, so the warm air lifts the moisture away from behind the panel. in Sweden, like here in Finland, the temperature fluctuations are big, so there is a lot of moisture behind the panel. The wall looks very nice and the window trims also . I like your meticulous work anyway, it pays off in the end.
@malydok Жыл бұрын
I was thinking this also and am curious as to how well it holds up. It seems like air doesn't have enough room to properly vent upwards. I've seen people recommend doing the panel supports in two criss-crossed layers instead. Would love to hear your opinion @Mindsparx. In another comment you say no water will get behind the facade but will that be the case even when rain pours down sideways (strong wind)? :-D
@kiwigrunt330 Жыл бұрын
Indeed, the gap between the base board and the vertical cladding will get water blown in the will have nowhere to go. The way he has done the horizontal framing behind the base board provides no drainage.

I use a cheap camera tripod for my crosshair laser. My brand of laser even has the same size thread fitting as the screw on the tripod so it's extra secure. For really tall applications the tripod isn't enough though, unless you have a slope or incline to place the tripod on.

Thank you for this very good video and the donating wall!!! The siding looks more „noble“ than the well known swedish „Board&Batten“. What kind of different wooden profiles do you use? It does not look like some sort of tongue&groove. Very interesting is the construct around the dripedge, i never thought that you are so free in your way of doing something like that. The trim looks imho very good, it looks some kind of „old style“. Is it possible to buy such wooden strips allready with its profile or do you make it by hand? Can you say something about the colour you used? „Normally“ near to everybody uses the Falunred. Are there any advantages/disadvantages in the usage of the different colours? The temporarily plumbing is also interesting, i hope you have this action also on video 😁do you have your own fountain/well? What about a sewage/septic system? Best regards to sweden! Please rock on!
@mindsparx12 жыл бұрын
Hello, this panel is called "Baspanel" (you can google that) and can be used in both directions. It's very common and you find it in any hardware store in Sweden. Everything around the windows has to be done by hand, but i use regular ceiling trims as profile. The color is a modern color that lasts for around 15 years. The red color you mention is called Falu rödfärg that is made from copper pigment, oil and flour? yup that's what's in there. That is a good color that breads when its dry and expands when its wet to stop water, very interesting paint. I don't use it since I'm a bit tired of the red color. Yes i have my own septic tank but the water comes from a shared pump nearby. I will do real plumbing later so the temporary one is nothing I'm proud of :)

Taskigt😂. Awesome channel. The voice is way better than text and like this its a mix combo I think. I want to build my own house here in Sweden my self. So its a lot of good inspiration. Your window frame might be a bit wide. One question and one remark 1. Don't you need vertical strips (and thus both) behind your lower panel, so water can run down? 2. DONT was your brushes in your sink! Super bad for the environment. Thanks a lot for filming!
@mindsparx12 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes, I'm leaning towards a narrower window frame too. I don't really know what you mean by a vertical strip, but water has a good way of passing as it is. And brushes, you are right. I have my own three-chamber well and the paint is water-based, but still. you are right.
@plings2 жыл бұрын
I mean behind the lower panels, you have horizontal stips to have a gap between the fiber board and the facade planks. I guessed these should be vertically so water can run out. Now are they horizontal, so if water is behind the facade planks it can't escape, only evaporate
@mindsparx12 жыл бұрын
@@plings ok, i will not get any water behind the panel, that would be a really bad design in that case

A light grey/beige/coffee Is your Colour which you use in the lower „female“ vertical part of the shielding one of these colours?
