I would be interested in how much water in inches you are losing a day. My pond is only about an hour from yours and I have no noticeable leaks but I lost nearly an 1” a day back during our drought last month. My well runs more than I would like it to. I have a plan to put it on a timer and a float so it turns on and off like a toilet but timed only at night.

I wish you the best but if its dropping down that much when you turned the water off its going to take truck loads of bentonite to seal that off. Most likely there's a weak spot in the core trench but with that clay liner it should matter.

Surprised to see you here Chris. I was actually going to make a comment about watching so many of your videos finding/repairing dam leaks and was hoping the sealing works. I would really be a shame to have to drain this new pond way down to fix a leak.

Have you ever used any polymer sealants? The guys that built our pond have had good luck with them. Going to try that next week so we will find out soon if it works!

This guy have done alot of ponds and pond repairs. I have a feeling that leak is going to need a re-dig of the core trench.. wich means it needs to be drained.

That is probably worst case scenario. Hopefully, it does not come to that and his sealant will work. Or maybe drop truckload of clay and paint it on the inside where it is leaking. Like clay duct tape lol.

We just closed on a large plot of land and plan to build a pond roughly half this size and this series has given me the confidence that I can do it and do it right. 👍

You should consider a pond liner. Where I come from, you get black PVC liner in 2mm for about 1,50€ a m^2. Obviously I am not from the US, I am from EU. But probably it isn't that much more expensive in the US. My Pond is a lot smaler (about 10x20m), but I don't have a leak for nearly 30 years now. Or at least it is holding water perfectly 😅

It looks really cool in person. Around here, when my old school built their first official building, they did this to the berms/hills around the playground. It was like a bright dark aquamarine color.

You should paint a ruler directly on the outside of the standpipe. Maybe make a mark every 6 inches in a yellow or white paint, that way you can always tell the level of the pond.

He does have a substantial leak on a horrible spot on the pond it's the side bank that's not a good place to have a leak and with the standing water that he has already, it looks like a big one ,they're probably going to have to drain the pond repack it with the clay and then start over. Idk

Had a 1/4 acre pond put in back in 2020. It was set back 25' from a small limestone creek. When the contractor got down to the depth of the creek he hit creek stone and quit. we have a small natural spring to feed the pond. When we put the water to it would only bring it up to 2' from the overflow. Drained the pond and put 2" of bentonite down then 6" of clay. No problems since.

Your contractor needs an ABI sr3 on that skid steer and the back of that dam would be like a sheet of glass! This project has been a joy to follow, i can't imagine how much you will enjoy it!

I sure hope that you can get it fixed. If I were you I would wait with the fish until you are absolutely sure that it will hold water over a longer stretch of time. Despite the fact that it might be very tempting to put fish in the pond. In the worst case scenario you will need to drain the pond at a later stage in order to do some repairs. And the water didn't even reach the top level yet, so who knows what else might happen when it reaches full capacity and pressure. My advise would be to put all your focus on the structure first and to let it undergo some weather cycles before you even think about putting fish in the pond. Maybe you can put some plants in it, but I would sure wait with putting large amounts of fish in the pond until there is some more certainty about the structural integrity. I know it's none of my business, but watching all of these videos, I can't help but wonder what Bama does for a living. He is spending SO much money. For instance, I just re-seeded a yard that was about 1/3 of an acre and grass seed is friggin expensive! I don't even want to think about how much that hydroseeding cost and that's just one of the smaller projects he's done. However he does it all, good for him!

It's not full yet, still has a couple feet to go. We added the pea gravel at the entrance and it has kept some water from getting into it. But it drops off in the cove so it should be around 3 feet deep when at full pool.

I'm a dam engineer and unfortunately i'm not surprised its leaking, during the construction process there didn't appear to be a lot of quality control and testing, its likely some sand layers got compacted into your clay core by the contractor unknowingly. That seepage may lead to internal erosion which can end in a large loss of containment very fast. I'd consult an engineer about this.
