I wanted to build a mobile tool cart with drawers to store some of my woodworking tools.
I used 3/4" plywood for the top, sides and bottom and 1/4" plywood for the back.
I used cherry for the banding to cover the plywood edging and used cherry to create "mock" drawer slides to separate the drawers.
The drawer boxes were made of 3/4" plywood and the drawer face was 3/4" pine.
I used metal drawer slides but they were not self-closing.
Here are the supplies I used:
- 3/4" plywood (local limber yard)
- 1x4 Cherry (local lumber yard)
- Richelieu 2-Pack 22-in Drawer Slide (low.es/3lYFvUh)
- allen + roth 1.52-in Wood Round Transitional Cabinet Knob (2-Pack)(low.es/3F0sx1l)
- Kreg 1-1/4" Fine Thread pocket hole screws (www.kregtool.com)
Here are some of the tools I used:
- Kreg Cabinet Hardware Jig (www.kregtool.com)
- Kreg Pocket Hole Jig (www.kregtool.com)
- Incra SE 1000 Miter Gauge (incra.com/miter_gauges-miter1...)

Great video Dennis. Very informative and thank you for all the useful tips. You are convincing more and more that the Jobsite/track saw combo could work for my small shop

Thanks Neil! Much appreciated! You'll get different opinions, but that set up works for me. The TSO guides are a real plus but I've always broke down plywood on the ground, even when I only had the Festool guide and then i would tune the smaller pieces on the job site saw. I'd follow the same approach even if I had a cabinet saw ..... but that's just me. Plywood is heavy and my lumber yard brings the plywood right into my garage ( I mean my shop LOL) and all I have to do is drop a sheet on some 2x4 supports on the floor and start breaking them down. Much easier on the body. Glad the video was helpful. Thanks again and good luck as you decide on your purchases for your shop.

Yay, I get to be first! I've been watching your videos all evening- and picking up some good tips/ideas. I grew up doing woodworking with my dad- using old school methods he learned growing up. I honestly prefer using Kreg jigs to those methods....even though they are another level of craftsmanship. I like how you combine pocket holes with dados for drawers and cabinets.....it just gives the piece a more finished look in my opinion. I like this tool cart....I need to do something like this, my one stall garage/shop is also where I park my car at night....so I need to be able to move things around. Wall/floor space is valuable real estate in the garage....especially since we live in a condo with limited storage options.

Excellent!! Glad you're finding the video's helpful. Space is at a premium for sure. I have 2 car garage and we don't use it for cars but there is a lot of "garage stuff" in there that takes up a lot of space. Good luck with your woodworking!!

OK, I held off my smartass comment about "I only have a..." then busting out a Festool, but then you also have a SawStop. There is no "only" about what you have.

LOL! I appreciate that! As I think about it, the comment about 'only having a jobsite saw' was more about not having to muscle a sheet of plywood on a portable saw. And yes the Festool is a nice to have as well - it's probably over 15 years old at this point - but your comment is a good reminder to be thankful for what I have - thanks!

To fasten a drawer front, screw the drawer face into the box where you plan to put your drawer pulls. Then remove the drawer and counter sink screws from the back to permanently attach the drawer face. Last, remove the screws from the front and drill all the way through so that you can put a screw from the back into the handle.

@@DIYwithDennis I think it is also beneficial to mention that putting weights in the drawers before lining up the faces helps on undermounted slides. I’ve had a fair amount of rubbing of the drawer faces and frame if I don’t do this.

@@DIYwithDennis Another option is using woodworkers double sided tape, which you can keep in place due to its minimal thickness. I put 4 small pieces in each of the corners.
