A time lapse of how we built the floor for our tiny pallet house build!
We are building a house out of pallets on our off grid mountain! We are not doing this to be trendy or cool, but to save money and build our home on a budget. It will start as a one room, 2 floor house that will look like a Pallet Tower and we will continue to add on more rooms later on.
It's not perfect, but it's a very sturdy floor made out of pallets!

I think it's hit! Or at least some of it has, got down to 12° here last night and froze the brakes on our Jeep! Although that's probably got more to do with driving through 14 little ponds to get home vs just the cold alone..

These days everyone is screaming code this and code that when there are houses 200 plus years old that are built better than a new home. I love this because you are using what you have which is how it used to be done. Can't wait to see more of this!

I can relate with this, We've had our fair share of negative comments and even 'threats' by people we know in person based on how we live and how we built what we live in... I think codes are good for Grandma when she's hiring some unknown company. But otherwise I do not.

i am so astonished by your determination. It is breath taking. The video was very educational. I am wanting to build a pallet woodworking shed. going to use pallets that have plywood on top and bottom. Now I am worried about connecting them together will have to continue watching and decide of a good way to go. thanks again. Keep up the good work as if you need to be told.

Absolutely! Screws are hands down the way to go, and I think if you're attaching pine to pine there is no issues in their use. Unfortunately I happen to be building a house out of oak..

Something to think about Next time you make a floor those centre beams you threw in would be a lot better if you built them outside the pallets and use some wood glue and you'll have better access for putting them together then you can use a little less nails/screws and Lessen the risk of splitting the 2x4

I built 2 sheds out of pallets and reinforced with up to code bolts,Hurricaine straps, and concrete solid footers and piers for about $700 dollars. It makes sense to recycle wood as I saw literally hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of new construction materials thrown away off of construction sites in my 10 years in construction.It's a sad state of affairs when all of that material could have been used by someone who was less fortunate.

Just came across your channel and this video. The cost of building is going to be an issue with us as well. Without getting too specific, could you tell me maybe which county and state you are in? I know not far from us in Idaho, there are no codes as well

I need to offer you a big shout-out and a bakers dozen thumbs-up for your solid, well thought-out information. I have been trying to suss out what you in one video put into a very clear and concise process of rational methodology. I have the same thought process using screws and then nailing off my sub assemblies. I don't have the finances or fancy cookbook recipe approaches to getting the job done. Having an able-bodied common sense person validating this somewhat complex process is a great help. Just a thought Wolfmama 0104

I'm glad you could relate! I had no idea I talked that much about screws at least not until Celia finished editing the video. Haha Another important aspect which I failed to mention is the reusability of screws you can always pull them out and use them somewhere else but nails are much harder.

I’m curious if you got inspiration from somewhere for the design or layout for the pallet house. I can’t imagine how much time you put in before you even touch a piece of lumber! Impressive!
@SteepintheWoods
@SteepintheWoods 6 ай бұрын
I guess it would be the I-beam pallet house. It would at least be similar, even though the name I been is the building system we are purposely ignoring because it doesn't use the full strength of each pallet. And I'm impressed that you picked up on that! Yes I think more thought it went into this than any other building I've done.

Hey Josh I really like your focus on tie downs. I come from a windy place and it would be a tragedy to have your cabin fail with your lovely family in it. I’m wondering what you are going to do for insulation and flooring? Blessings.
@SteepintheWoods
@SteepintheWoods 6 ай бұрын
Yes anchors are crucial with everything that I build! I find that they're both cheaper and more effective than doing concrete footers. Luckily here we don't have much wind. It was actually unsettling for Celia in the first bit to be surrounded by walls made of mountain but I like it! Privacy was one of the most important things I was looking for in a new property. But I'm still well known for playing it safe so we always use anchors.
