Hey again Winky.. Those pulleys that hole the belts in place are fairly easy to get made up now. I don't have the tools to make them bro but I love the design of ur grinder. I was thinking about buying one from VEVOR but maybe I will take a stab at building my own with the disc sander as part of it too.. This Old Tony is another channel I watch. I know your already done. When I was kid, the bike fixing old neighbor man would tell me he was going trim my ears back when he got tired of me pestering him. I'm thinking that motor could have it's ears trimmed back to make up for the thickness. Also, you could notch the top of the plate to clear the belt allowing you to move the pulley in. Full of ideas tonight.

In ignorance I made a crowned 12" wooden sheaves with pronounced crowns for a stroke sander. Before the first belt had fully sanded wood the belt split lengthwise. If the axles are parallel it doesn't take much crown to get perfect tracking.
@WinkysWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
Wow... I've seen belts get distorted but never split. You are right, it doesn't take much crown or tension on the belt. Just enough so the belt doesn't slip under load.

Whats the diameter of the drive wheel? I picked up a pump motor today, pump part was trash, the motor is WAY overkill but I will put a vfd on it if I have to. I will have to extend the shaft out so I ordered in a 5/8 reamer so I can fit it well over the motor shaft (.624) and put a 1/2-20 thread inside then punch a small hole all the way through for the left handed 1/4-20 retaining bolt with a relief cut for the bolt.

Wow not sure what state you live in or small town, but here in North Carolina I have found metal recycle places or should I say most of them will let us come in and search for stuff and sell it to us by the pound. Which I should say comes out to be cheep compared to buying it by the foot. One place I go to at least once a month has stuff separated out already stainless all on shelves , steel all on shelves, aluminum all on shelves , brass all on shelves, copper all on shelves, out side and we can just go up and down the isles and look for stuff we want. You might check around you to see if any of them will allow you to look around. The one place I have talked about around me I call it my honey hole for metal. I always check there before buying it by the foot. You could have found your 1\2 x 6" plate there. Just last week I bought 5 pieces of 1\2 X 6 X 1 foot long for under $20.00 good job on the belt sander.
@WinkysWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
I had a few good sources for a while but they have kind of dried up. There are 3 different recycle places in town... one never has much, the other thinks all his stuff is made of gold and I'm kind of afraid of the third place. The third place is absolutely huge. They have a car shredder but they run just about any industrial steel through it. This is NO exaggeration... they always have a pile of shredded steel 4 or 5 stories high. Lots of steel everywhere although I'd need to bring a cutting touch to get most of it. They will let you walk or drive around but they have these monster loaders with 6 foot tires running around with little regard. Plus I worry about my truck tires. I really wish some industries person would save steel and resell it. What a waste. Maybe I need to just hang out there for a while. Ha They will sell anything for scrap price.

What is going to keep the pulley from spinning on the motor shaft? No key. The nut alone won't do it.
@WinkysWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
I was somewhat worried about that myself on my first grinder but in 5 years it has never been an issue. So far on the new grinder there is no sign of slipping. I don't think it's going to ever be an issue although I agree that it is not ideal. I've seen blower fans held on the same way although I suspect the pump vanes had threads. Maybe I should have cut internal threads and used a nut s a lock.

Well clockwise cut is conventional, a counter cut is a climbing cut it's as if one is up hill and one is down hill or level that's why your mill cuts better in one direction
@WinkysWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about the rotary table? It doesn't make any difference if the mill is cutting full width like a groove although technically cutting a circle would be better clockwise. My rotary table is kind of wimpy. I'll avoid using it like this in the future.
