Hey Tony, it's nice to see a Don Fogg forge build. Being my neck of the woods he's from. For what it's worth, I wanted to share. I use hardware cloth in the middle of my refractory castings for furnace bricks. Just suspended in the middle, it toughens them from impact of firewood quite well. Thanks for sharing.

Pretty work Mr Tony!!! I know you’ve been limited with the old closed end forge. I see longer blades in your future. How will you keep the back door open when passing long pieces through? Thanks for another great video

Thanks Justin! Actually I just need to be able to forge longer billets. I never get orders for swords. I make a ton of hunting and outdoor knives. However I can make some bigger Kukris etc when the need arises. The back door is on a hinge. So the billet will push open and rest on the billet then close when I pull it out.

Thanks brother. It’s not bad just time consuming. I also re-done my Venturi forge. It’s almost ready to fire up. Making a few mods to it but I poured it the same way.

@@TonySeverioKnives I decided not to go to the abs school. With the cost of everything including missing 2 weeks of work it will cost me about $6000. I think I would be better off spending that money on a mini mill and other tools

Thanks! They both have their pros and cons. This one will allow me to keep the billet off of the floor and out of any flux on the floor. It has pretty good even heat too. The ribbon burners have great even heat. I will be building one as well. Different forges for different operations. 😁

Is the extended amount of time to heat also just this style of forge characteristic? Could you bring the roof refractory down some to get a smaller chamber?

Some of it is/was due to the refractory curing but like I mentioned in the beginning, the chamber is larger than it needs to be. But I’m running half the amount of gas right now. My old forge has a much smaller chamber and I run it wide open.

What model number is your gas valve? I bought one but it's a 12v and not 110v. Thanks
