As autumn approaches, I begin work on the back door. This time, it's going to be completely different from the front door that my dad and I build last year. This one will be made of a blend of wood and epoxy. ...but before I can begin work on the door, I have to finish the flooring.

I really love the penny detail. That floor is beautiful. And I'm very sorry about the loss of your dad--I've enjoyed watching the two of you build your cabin. As I was watching this episode, I thought one idea would be to carry out that coin detail in tribute to him, by insetting two coins--one minted the year of his birth, and one the year of his passing--in the frame above the door he helped you build. It would symbolize his watching over all who enter your home through that door.

I haven’t even seen a minute of this video but I got emotional seeing the door in the preview still. It is so utterly organic. As Father and Son they’ve built a beautiful cabin and every bit of it is genius of geometry. The door - it is, well it is the soul of stewardship. It tells the whole story - at least as I see it - how it was felled - why it was felled - shows the reverence for the life of the forest. And as the one of a cluster of three evokes the Trinity - Father Son and Holy Ghost.

I have been a dedicated viewer since you placed the stones to start the build. I must admit that your hair was the first thing that made me stop as I scrolled through my queue. It was unique. After I began to watch I realized that you are one of the most likeable, "teacherly", talented people on YT. You have hooked me and 1.05 M viewers since that day. Watching you mill the lumber and applying the finish to a floor that generations in your family will walk on gave me a sudden pang of missing your dad. As I watched though, I thought of the friend of my family that officiated at my mothers funeral. He used the parable of a bundle of sticks being stronger than the sticks individually. You have 1.05 M sticks around the world in your bundle. Even though I know you miss him terribly you have the strength of all of us behind you. I say this as a 71 year old father of three.

Your cabin is beautiful and the idea for your back door is even more so. As a hobbyist who works with epoxy, I'm highly recommending you stop by a craft store to look for a can of something called "Apel mould release" or at least something similar that specifically says it works for resin. It's a spray on lubricant that puts about two to three microns worth of protective layering over whatever surface you're laying it on, and it makes demolding resin and epoxy casts much easier to deal with. The clear packing tape you talked about using is also a great idea to go with but you'll have to do some sanding on the surfaces in contact with said tape in order to get rid of any lines that laying down the tape in slight overlaps would produce. Blessed be to you, to your family, and your father's spirit who I know is still watching over that cabin.

One thing the ladies in my quilt guild have taught me is to sign and give info for your work. Carve a "made by" and date somewhere on the doors, write some details telling the cabin's story, put it in some kind of container plaque somewhere in the cabin. A hundred years from now, someone will want to know its story. You're "painting" a 3 dimentional piece of art, often non-paint artists forget to sign their creation. Every quilt has a story and yours is made of wood. The floor and doors are beautiful along with everything else.

I have loved watching you build this cabin in the forest. I know you must miss your dad a lot. My condolences. An airiel view of the cabin reveals a cross when you follow the ridge line. Whether by design or not, it’s a wonderful tribute to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May God bless your efforts to finish this cabin and may you enjoy it for many years to come. Looking forward to more videos! Thanks!

You have added so much more to this cabin, than just a build. It's priceless. I had seen this video before I saw your other videos, then I realized you had done this one. Amazing!

J'ai pas les mots pour décrire ton ouvrage, tu est un exemple de bien faire avec passion . Je pense toujours a ton père, il me fait penser a mon père qui était charpentier et fermier.

Here's a hint for paint cans or other same sized containers: use a smooth nail (not spiral) and a hammer. You cold substitute the nail with an awl. Punch 8 evenly spaced holes in the top channel of the can, that the lid seats into. Excess paint/liquid will drip through the holes and into the can as you scrape the paint brush on the inner can edge. This really helps stop the paint/liquid from clogging up the channel. Way easier to clean out if you need too as well.

I've been binge-watching every episode and LOVE IT! You and your father have built a beautiful cabin together! You should DEFINITELY Bring you wife and daughter out there more often to help. Even if your wife can't help, she's in a beautiful place where she can relax with nature, and young children LOVE to help - and it gives them a great sense of accomplishment that she'll remember for her whole life! Even if she's not much real help, she'll love those Daddy-Daughter memories when she's older! It'll also be good for you, in that your wife is nearby, and if SHE needs help, then you're MUCH closer for her. I'm definitely of the mind that the machinery wheel you found would make a great chandelier - maybe some Edison-type LED bulbs - very electricity-conscious, and they'd look beautiful hanging from that wheel! I keep thinking that that old hand-pump at your grandfather's homestead would also be a great addition to yours! If you could drill down to the water-table, it would be EASY to rebuild and install, and you'd never have to worry about water. You'd have 2 water sources - one you could use for potable water, and the other for washing, showering, etc.

That is going to be a very beautiful, original door. What an inventive mind you have! I can't wait to see it finished & Ik your wife will appreciate & love it bcuz that will give much needed extra light into the kitchen area w/just a descent amount of privacy. Your comment about the memories of the front door & your dad is something I think of as well, I think of him & you building that door too every time I see it in these videos & I miss seeing him too & he's not even my dad! I can only imagine how deeply you miss him & your mom as well. They're both proud of you & will be there to welcome you w/our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ whenever your called home. God bless & I look forward to your next episode. Take care.
