The finished product looks very good. The added interior detail adds life to the building. The lights are OK as the trains are the star performers.

Building a shell to go inside an already assembled building was a stroke of genius. I think your lights look fine. On too many layouts the buildings look as if there’s a disco going on inside it’s so bright and garish.

Very nice work, especially when one considers that you were working with an older kit that had already been assembled. You have inspired me to try that someday (my layout isn't ready for lighted buildings yet)

Have you tried slightly melting the ends with a lighter of the fiber tubes? It makes a convex shape and sort of creates a flood light effect. I’ve tried it on signals and it works pretty well. Great job!
@achb-railway10 күн бұрын
@@Bliz0516 I’ve heard of doing that - but since I glued in the fibers, and then cut them, they would be difficult to melt with a lighter without burning down the whole thing!
@sidhammell361410 күн бұрын
like the use of filament; on screen the interiors give the right impression. perhaps brighter lights would spoil the illusion you have created
@achb-railway10 күн бұрын
@@sidhammell3614 It looks good as is - but I think I was hoping for just slightly brighter. Thanks for watching!

Love the lighting work. I'm seeing some red "blocks" that you are using for weights and to keep things square. Where did you find those? The color makes me think they are from Woodpecker.
@achb-railway8 күн бұрын
They were just part of a corner clamp kit that I found on Amazon.

Thank you for sharing your lighting ideas, that looks really nice! The attention to detail is awesome. When you use the plywood base how thick of plywood do you use on that?
@achb-railway10 күн бұрын
I think it was 1/2”. Just a scrap I had in the garage. I think 3/8 would be fine if it was good quality ply. Cheap stuff would warp.

Merchants Row is looking good. Do you plan to add store signs and roof details? Check out Evans Designs. They have chip and nano LEDs that are great for interior lighting that needs to be seen. I have used their light to add interior light to RR models and other models like sci fi starships.
@achb-railway10 күн бұрын
@@AirwolfCrazy I’ll be adding signs and details eventually. Nice thing is that I can just lift off the building shell to do it. Don’t even need to unplug wires.
