Building GLaDOS in Real Life: Pt 4

Been a busy personal month, but I wanted to share a quick update on GLaDOS. I've ordered some linear actuators for her redesigned neck mechanism and will basically be redesigning the entirety of her wall mount.
I'm moving over the next week, so I'll have little time to work, but the next update will share full motion control of her head. Are you excited? I'm excited. Stay safe out there.

Haha thanks! Ill admit that it was unintentional, since the amplifier and led are on the same power supply. Her eye doesnt modulate in the game, but I like the effect too!

Glados is quite big, her core (The head unit) is around the size of a person, ~5 feet. (It may not seem like that in game, but in VR its far more apparent her size) Given this one looks to be 1-3 feet tall, id say anywhere from 1:2 scale, to 1:4 scale.

Yup! This version of her head is roughly 1/3rd scale

@@dingle6996 As for me, no. If your talking about the creator of the video, he may. For the most part wheatley is just a glorified sphere. Find a metal sphere, or plate a regular sphere in metal, and thats most of him done. The eye motors are just a 3 axis gyroscope, which I imagine wouldnt be hard to build due to how common they are. The hardest part would be his actual eyelids, since it would be difficult to hide them behind the eye without anything ugly sticking out, and making it functional.

This Is Awesome! Can't Wait To See The Finished Product! Gotta Tackle That Tiny Bit Of Wobble With Something To Absorb The Shock Of Movement From All That Torque! I Do Worry That With All That Power Her Magnetic Faceplace Might Shake Loose At This Point It's Kinda Like Being Behind The Wheel For The First Time With Sudden Stop N Go. Hopefully The Servo Control Becomes A Lot More Stabilized And Fluid. Hydraulics...Maybe? Pistons Using Air To Slow Her Down A Bit? I Was Hoping You'd Add A LED Dimmer When She Spoke And You Read My Mind. I Am Trying To Remember If She Had An Iris Over Her Eye To Go With Her Sliding Lids In Game But That Would Be A Cool Concept/Addition. Overall, Great Build!!!

Thanks! Yeah Ive already invested in some servo linear actuators for her neck, so better acceleration control is in the works! She doesnt have a clear mechanical iris, but the light in her eye dims in a way that suggests one since it does have an aperture effect occasionally. Not part of this design, but something Ill be mindful of for future builds!

just another thing that could be really cool (but also very time consuming and expensive) could be a set of like 6 or seven of the platforms from portal that could be rearranged to create like a desk or a stand or whatever your mind could think of. I know this will probably never happen but I just thought it was a cool idea and wanted to share it with somebody.

Hah, thanks. It actually is quite a cheap setup. The speakers and amp board each cost about $10, so quite affordable

I've played portal since I can first remember it and when portal 2 came out it was sick and now as the games are quite old there's not much portal contract anywhere anymore and I've yet to see a IRL GLaDOS yet made by you here she is I'm just amazed and thanks for all the great portal Content 😁😁!!!

I'm following a similar to a tutorial and so far from what I've done I used a few different things and I was able to build somewhat of the neck to the body and in the future if you keep making more of these videos I will adjust it to be similar to yours and I'll add my own perfect things to it
