Korea is a fun one. I did a couple of build for friends there. There is a killer electronics district in Yongsong that I got a majority of the parts from. I had found a 1080 Ti for about 250 usd at the time of the RTX launch. The real hidden gems are in the little side shops in the area that take some wandering to find. Also keep an eye on Craigslist there sometimes you can find good deals there. Snagged an old cooler master for 4 bucks.

"B" codes are usually memory related on X79. B2 is "iMC init", which would suggest to me that there's an issue with the memory controller interacting with the board, or there's a RAM issue. You're in Japan, it should be easy to get an "External Clip" style ROM flash interface. You can then use another computer to flash the BIOS on the MSI X79.

If the fan is noisy, maybe you can use 5v instead of 12v. If the fan is using a Molex connector its a simple fix of just swapping pins and if its using a 3 pin fan header, just buy a 3 pin header to molex connector and swap the pins. Small air flow is better than no air flow..

I am sure you probly know but in case you didn't, you can usually Re-Oil the PC Fans by pulling the sticker off of the Back. Sometimes there is a Small Rubber Plug behind the sticker too. Just use a Precision Spray Nozzle (the Red Straw) to spray down inside it with some Lube. I usually use something a little thicker than regular WD 40 like a Gel Form of it or Lithium Grease or it will Evaporate & be Noisy within a shot time. Than I wipe off the excess Oil from the back re insert the plug & put some Tape on if the old Sticker doesn't stick anymore.
@xponen5 жыл бұрын
I did similar things, I found a fan from Pentium4 era, very noisy, I peel off its sticker and drip thick motor oil on its bearing, then after few days of usage it no longer make loud noise. SpeedFan say it spin at 4300rpm, initially I thought this is the reason but it isn't (it can't be throttled because it only connect 3-pin on the Fan header).

Man... There are some crazy comments here. While it is unusual for a man to still be cordial with his EX, that is not always the case. Years ago when I was in high school I met the parents of one of my friends. I was a bit shocked as I knew his parents were divorced, yet here the two of them (and their new spouses) were talking, drinking, joking, and having a grand time. It turns out that his mother and father were still good friends, but they just couldn't be married. They frequently hosted BBQ's where they invited the other couple. They co-parented in a way that I've only seen one other time. People it can happen.

the 2600k is a hot processor even in japan. i was already thinking to myself why you'd run that on a cooler like that. would probably boost to 3.7ghz if it had a better cooler.

With a good cooler/silicone luck it could easily get to 4+ ghz I agree 100%

Sandy bridge (2500k/2600k/2700k)has been well known to go 4.5 without any proper overclock tweaks... this x79 tho. Xeons are a different beast all together

@@mikeymaiku Yea the motherboard here is definitely holding the i7 back. I had a 2600k that went to 4.2ghz on stock voltages. Pretty sure the mobo is a x79, not a xeon x79

Your a kind soul , all I wanted to build for my ex-wife was a wooden suit. Still if she didn't bail for a "mate" I wouldn't have found the happiness i have now . Really I should send her a case of beer every year for doing me the favour of my life. Back to pc stuff /end rant.

If the fans are loud they could need some lubrication. You could use a sewing machine oil. Did that on my Nintendo Wii U fan, increased performance and reduced noise. Just peel off the sticker and a drop.

I saw you used a small dremel tool to polish the plastic, there is a similarly inexpensive yet more effective method of plastic polishing. Get a rotary drill and a polisher attachment that will work with one inch and 2 inch pads, then get some high quality automotive polishing pads such as Rupes or Lake Country (If you want to be really cost effective get one large 7 inch pad and cut out smaller pads from it) then finally some high quality compound/polish like Sonax Perfect Finish or 04-06. Using that combination you should be able to polish the plastic back to as good or better than new. If anyone would like more specifics let me know! Awesome price to performance as always! Cheers!
