Building our Dream Home 3 | Foundation Time! Digging Out and Pouring the Foundation

We're pouring a foundation for our dream home, and this home building project is happening fast! We've been dreaming of this home build for years now and we can hardly believe how quickly it's coming together. First, Darren stops by to dig out the foundation. Next, the foundation crew get the footers and stem wall form boards up, and the foundation gets poured as a monopour. Pouring the foundation made this whole thing more real to us than it's ever been and now we're ready to see some framing.

So cool for the kids to see all this happening! My dad bought the 3 acres I am on in 73, we lived 3 miles away at the time. Every night after the parents got home from work we would drive out to see the work they did on the house that day. I very clearly remember the excitement I felt as a kid seeing our home get built!

One of the most exciting (& expensive) times of your lives. TREASURE IT. So touching to hear how you guys worked hard to afford this dream house. Too few actually DO work hard like you. No handouts for Mike & Shelley😉😂 I guess Basements aren’t typical in Oregon. They’re overrated & so expensive (ton of concrete needed. And, it would probably flood in Oregon ‘s rain ☔️. Don’t need that headache. Such an exciting time; treasure it kiddo.

We're actually in Washington, just a couple hours north of the Oregon border, but yes, no basement. I'd love to have a basement but the ground water is too high in most places around here. We have worked very hard for this for the 17 years we've lived here. It's definitely the most expensive thing we've ever done but it's the best thing to spend our money on in our eyes. You are 100% correct, no handouts for us. We both came from families of much smaller means and have worked hard to make this happen. Still don't have enough to complete it but we'll figure it out before it's done. Thanks so much for being here and following the journey, Deni.

I really hope all goes well with your build. We built a house in 1993 and we had a blast picking out the design and all the finishes. We had our foundation poured and the framing contractor was scheduled to start the next week but he canceled. We had to scramble and find a new framer and the one we got was better than the one we originally picked. He made a few changes before starting that made the flow of the rooms and the look of the ceiling so much better. Good luck!

Yeah, I'm sure it all has to do with weather and soil conditions. Our frost line is about 18 inches and most people have crawl spaces under their homes in this area. Cost and location. We still don't have enough money to finish this as it is and don't want to be in debt forever. Aside from that, it wouldn't work here because we have ground water just 3 feet down in many areas in the spring. It's a long process and we're glad it's finally at the point it is. I can't wait for maybe a year from now to see more Rhodes after all the brush is cleared out at your back porch I love all the different colours there are available But as of today it's nice to have something so big in your life come to fruition especially when you choose the different finishes inside your home It'll really feel like yours Are the girls choosing what colours go into their rooms? That will feel special for them🇨🇦🦩

I've been working hard at clearing a lot of brush over there lately. I'll have to do a walk around of the whole property and show you. My wife and kids are very excited about paint colors. Much more than I am, haha.
