I don't have a ton of regrets but if I could go back, I probably would have bit the bullet and had more kids, maybe even started younger. Oh well, in hindsight everything is easier. Definitely glad I'm filming this though and can look back on it.

I begin to hurt and I have to sit down.) would make a swell plant working area. And it is!

Mike, even though the conduit wasn't deep enough where you initially positioned it, thankfully, with your backhoe, it was relatively easy to dig it deeper and further from the house foundation. Have you thought about digging an irrigation pond and running your roof run off water into that?
@MikeKincaid79
@MikeKincaid79 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I've thought of all kinds of ideas like that to utilize the water. For right now, I have to run the pipe out to daylight and just let it run off because that's what the county wants in order to approve it. Once everything is done, I have some ideas about connecting it somehow into a drip irrigation system that would cover most of the rhododendron beds on that side of the house. Or at least flood the beds when it rains. That would be really cool to have a setup like that.

Mike, that's a lot of conduit. You must have a thousand feet out there. That's a lot of work. I bet it will pay off in the long run, though. Don't forget to map out where everything is for the future. Hay, did you get started on the frame yet? I like to see what the layout is like. Being in construction makes me curious. Everything looks great. You must be happy. Just don't overdo it and get sick. Enjoying your videos , Steve
@MikeKincaid79
@MikeKincaid79 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the conduit has been a ton of work but it's good peace of mind in the end, especially with all the rocks I have. I've thought about doing a video of the layout but many people have tried to steer me away from that, including my wife. Not sure why that could cause a problem, as it's just a basic 3 bedroom 2 bath house, and if someone really wanted to get inside they'd find a way. Anyway, for my wife's peace of mine, that one is on hold for now. The lumber will be delivered tomorrow and framing starts Wednesday. There's a ton of mud around here right now so I'll be bringing in a load of gravel to clean up the driveway, and picking up about 20 or 3 bails of straw for the site today.

All that gutter water into a single exit is a bit much. I'd split the back side and run a dedicated one for each side. Also be helpful to have a couple of inspection/cleanout ports.
@MikeKincaid79
@MikeKincaid79 Жыл бұрын
I considered that but we can't have the pipe going across the front of the garage and the other side is uphill. It'll all work out and this is how most homes are done in my area. As far as clean out ports, there's essentially a clean out at every corner where the downspouts are.

Man, that’s a lot of savings there doing that part yourself. I am envious of your confidence to learn and do it. Had you put any thought into collecting the run off for the gutters into a pond or cistern so you could reuse in your greenhouse or gardens? It’s looking great so far though. I am also super jealous of all the awesome rocks you have in the ground. Would make a great rock bed border. Just sayin.
@MikeKincaid79
@MikeKincaid79 Жыл бұрын
I've got a rock pile so big it would make you drool. I've been collecting rocks here for years, haha. Yes, I've considered everything you mentioned as far as directing rain water to the rhododendron beds. I've even given a lot of thought to using the runoff water from the pole barn gutters. My ultimate dream would be to have all the buildings run off into 1 or 2 giant cisterns that are buried underground. Then I could have a drip irrigation system set up everywhere and all I'd need is a small pump to run it all. I'd never touch my well water again.

@MikeKincaid79
@MikeKincaid79 Жыл бұрын
I have been thinking about how to clean these out, in the back of my mind. To late now to add anything because we just did the backfill, but there are downspouts all around the house that I could access the pipes through. I think a good plan would be to hose them out once a year to keep fir needles and leaves from backing things up. I already have a little roof maintenance I do every summer on all my buildings. I'll just have to add this one to the list and hose them out. The end of the pipe will run out to daylight so I'll always be able to see if the water is flowing or not.
