once let a bunch of eggs hatch and ended up with a BUNCH of roosters...when they got of age, they started picking at my main guy, pictured (in the email sent)...could not bring myself to kill them off, so gradually, they got left outside at night and the predators of the sky got them. Saved a hen once from that hawk. With too many roosters, they compete and hens will stop laying. Just saying.

I hope your chicken person told you that you need to keep new ones cooped up for a couple of weeks before you let them free range. When you do let them out oyster shells are good for their craw and spread what feed you give them out over a large area to encourage them to seek out other sources of feed. Y'all have a long way to go but you'll get there. Your eggs will be almost orange and full of protein. It is refreshing to see young people on a good journey.

As a KZbin Spanish student, I would recommend "The Language Tutor Spanish", although I use a variety of channels. This guy has a great approach to teaching in a logical order. I have been going through it pretty fast and forget some of it. It's good to follow his advice and really get each lesson down before getting too ahead of yourself. You can practice while you're working and enjoy learning together and with your neighbours. Your lives will be enriched very much after a year or 2 of studying and becoming bilingual. Thanks for the video.

Hey Kat N Matt. Try Diatomaceous earth. Put it in their food, spread in on the ground in the coop and run. It keeps mites, ticks, and internal worms off your pets..
@stevenpurcell4292 Жыл бұрын
Nice job on the coop door, Matt. Typically for coops, in order to slip in while keeping the chickens in, you make the door open in instead of out. Opening out is an invitation for the little buggers to hop out before you can get in. Not too late to reverse the hinges. Just a thought. Nice job on the sick chick.

Chicks sometimes get sick for no apparent reason and die really fast. When I was a boy and a young man I raised chickens and sometimes a chick would be fine one morning and dead that night or alive during the night and dead by morning for no apparent reason. It's not uncommon for them to go down really fast just like small children. They are prone to all kinds of diseases and diseases can be different in different regions of the world. Some veterinarians are up-to-date on the problems with avian species like chickens because in certain areas where they live there may be a lot of them and if the people can afford to see them they will go for help from the vet. Don't forget to call and check what vets help with chickens. It is a good idea to get some books that you can have that will tell you things about particular problems that chickens have with remedies that you can have at your disposal. It's a good idea to keep some of those remedies on hand at all times for adult and juvenile chickens. You will have to become comfortable with the idea that sometimes your animals will die and to raise animals regardless of what kind it is you're going to have to realize that happens. It doesn't mean you have to give up on them but sometimes they just die before you know it and you have to just bury them and move on. If you raise any meat birds you're going to have to not be comfortable with them as pets and not to name them because you don't want to have to think that you've got to butcher your pet chicken for food. If you're going to live off the land you'll have to get use to butchering your birds for meat. On another topic you were saying that you thought that the bamboo was a protected species and that you can't cut down live bamboo but that might not be on your own property. Besides how are they going to know that you cut down one bamboo to use on a project? You can always call the Police Department and ask them or one of your neighbors what the law is if there is one. For the cap on your roof I would look for the largest bamboo section you could find that would cover that cap perfectly and cut it down or find one that's already down and use it that way you get a good seal. Don't forget to put a roosting pole up for the chickens to roost on once you get them inside the chicken house at night. You can even have a couple of them but make sure you don't put them so high they can't jump up to it or if they have their wings fly up to it. They need to be able to roost and not just sit on the ground in the poop. Also make sure it's not too tiny in diameter or too large. Round Roost poles are a better choice than a 2 × 4. I don't know what kind of predators you have other than Birds of Prey but if you have predators that can dig up under the pen and get inside you need to put heavy gauge wire on the ground coming out from the chicken house about 12 in and stake it down so it can't be crawled under. By putting the wire down it keeps them from being able to dig in the dirt and go up under the edges of the pen to get at the birds. If you have snakes then you will need to put one quarter inch to 1/2 inch wire mesh instead of chicken wire because snakes can go through the round holes.

Guys be careful with that heat lamp. We get temps in the minus numbers and i only use a regular light bulb for the worst nights for heat. Chickens are hearty. As long as they have a draft free/dry coop, they are usually good. You live in a jungle, man, it cant be that cold there! Wondering if you can move that new coop enclosure close to the other one so you can kinda triple the little yard areas? That bamboo roof looks cool as hell. You are so sweet to your animals. ❤

When you were picking up that bamboo I could just picture a T-rex poking its head around trees to see what the ruckus was. You guys are living a dream. Soo cool. Much respect. Roof gives special ambiance to the chickies. Works, and its a crafting marvel, good job. I cut oriental bamboo back in early 80's, On an abandoned nursery gone wild near Orlando. we cut 30 footers, just wanted the lower 3 feet. At base we laid a hatchet on angle, drove in with hammer. Filled a van with stocks to craft. Daytona boardwalk store. ***A bamboo crafting tip: get a fire going, and take 16 penny nail on some handle, and get it red hot. then push thru for no split nail holes! Works on big holes, too. Red hot sharpened pipe. Same with cutting, easy to burn thru it with an angle grinder with 6" cut-off wheel. No splintering! Make any design on it. And you can deburr/chamfer with the same tool. It's" Naught," not "knot;" or "not." Frank the tank, It is what it is. Best of luck, Adventure onward!
