Lots of clever thinking and good building skills, in a resourceful and inexpensive manner. It reminds me of watching wood craftsman in India in the 80's making things. Lots of hand tools and barefoot ..... fascinating for a modern trained house builder like myself.....

Your resourcefulness is impressive. I work a lot in the same manner, though I am not a mariner. Carpentry projects sometimes require a lot of "MacGyver-ing" to get the job done.
@dominictarrsailing Жыл бұрын
thank you! yes indeed. I was a big fan ofMacGyver when I was a kid. Watched carefully so I knew what to do if I was ever in that situation. I rewatched it a bit recently! pretty funny! his ideas never fail, everything works first time. Some of them would really work others completely ridiculous!

Seems like most of the wharram's acquire a deck enclosure at some point. Those pods are nicely done.
@dominictarrsailing Жыл бұрын
thank you! I really like the minimalist aesthetics of the wharram, so this is as far as I am intending to go, with regards to deck pods. Although, I have set up a dome tent in front of the mast and also have a large rain tent that covers the entire central deck area

Pretty cool to see you in my neck of the woods. I was at your Nelson moorage just a few hours ago! That seems to be one of the many advantages of a catamaran - being able to bring it so close. in to the shore and just have it rest of sand. Ideal for this area especially but I'm sure also an advantage in many places around NZ.
@dominictarrsailing Жыл бұрын
oh it's so nice to be able to park up like this! before this boat I had a raven 26. 1.5m draft, tipped over at 45 degrees if you "parked" it like this. On a deep boat like that, you can never really relax. Always gotta be ready to move to a different anchorage. And when you are near a town it's usually a bit rolly. But if you can dry out like this generally put the boat some place that will be sheltered in many conditions and just relax... or do some building projects!

I know it is six months too late, but for the hole cutter, you can take one of the cutters off and extend the arm out to get larger sizes. Just cut slowly as it is out of balance..

hahaha well I'm sure you can figure it out if you study the satellite view for where might be a good place to park a shallow draft boat in nelson ;)

Wow, these doghouses look fantastic. 👍👍How are you going to mount them? On rails ? Can you still open the large hatch ?
@dominictarrsailing2 жыл бұрын
yes on rails. unfortunately I lost the footage for that bit... Yes the cargo bay still opens but only with the dog house in the closed position.
@BalkanShipyards2 жыл бұрын
Well done, good editing! way above my abilities.... Love the Pahi 31, it's got great lines, beautiful ship! How do those high bows tack? always interested me, Since James lowered the bows in the Tiki designs, I wonder if that was the reason. The Bike trailer was a highlight... Dog House Dynamite! Keep Shunting Brah, Balkan Shipyards
@dominictarrsailing2 жыл бұрын
It can be a bitch to tack, sometimes it would be easier to shunt! you have to back the jib, but sometimes just getting the bow that high doesn't work and you have to try again or gybe. gybing never fails! but I did successfully tack up an channel at the start of the outgoing tide the other day. I think it's the flat rocker that makes it hard, flatter than a tiki, didn't think about the bows, same windage at the stern so I think that would balance it. Havn't sailed on a tiki so not sure how different. One time when it was really blowing, big hills and huge gusts, reefed down, I tacked by oversheeting the main past the center, let a gust blow the stern around, that worked.
@BalkanShipyards2 жыл бұрын
@@dominictarrsailing Been on a Tiki 38 a few times, tacks no problem, backing the Jib helps, but tacked almost like a mono anyway... Sheeting the main the wrong way is a great idea! Enjoy summer bro.......

You could have just glued the window on the outside with Bostik marine sealant. Just round the edge over and polish it. It will hold so strong you will.rip the wood off before the sealant breaks. Polish with 80 grit going up to 600 then finish with wet wipes and toothpaste. They come out see through. Use black Bostik on the frame and the window to stop bubbles. Use stick on picture frame hooks to seat the windowsin correct position mask off window and frame for clean finish. Make window at least 30mm more than frame all around.
@dominictarrsailing9 ай бұрын
hmm sounds interesting. It would be great to be rid of the screws (rot risk) on the other windows) what glue specifically? glue over the paint? is the paint stronger than the wood?
