I wonder if the radiator can be mounted underneath. Maybe it's not possible to route hoses that way. You would certainly have to custom make some different ones though!

Remember as with all pressure hose installations, to not have any twist in the hose. The name or lines on them can "bend" but not twist from end to end.

While there are always compromises with any engine installation, the radiator placement appears to block some forward visibility. Secondly, I wonder if the warmer air exiting the radiator will become uncomfortable to the pilot over a period of time.

In northern climates that may be a Feature, not a Flaw. Keep in mind he's in WI by Lake Michigan. But the nice thing about Ultralights and Experimentals is that you can modify things as required. But keep in mind an air cooled engine is equally discharging all of its heat right in front of the pilot (1/2 VW for example).

Hi Jon. I would recommend that you do not put all your faith in spring washers to hold the hot water outlet on to the engine. Rather use BLUE locktight and spring washers. Do not use the RED locktight as you will never get those bolts out of the engine again without damaging the threads in the head. The hose clamps look to be very aggressive to me. I'd rather use the standard radiator hose clips found at any auto shop. Just a simple screwdriver is required to fit and remove them. Thank you for giving us the low down in part 42. I will be putting .my money where my mouth is when the time comes to install the engine, or I will use an air cooled power plant to save weight. By the way. Don't use water to cool the engine. Rather use a waterless coolant found in most modern cars. It stops any galvanic action in the engine and boils at almost twice the temperature of water and freezes at a much lower temperature. I got to hearing about this waterless system from the Wheeler Dealer TV series while I was living in England.

Most modern cars don’t use waterless coolant. I’m actually not aware of a single manufacturer that sells cars with waterless coolant. Virtually all cars are a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze.

Yes you can take these hose clamps off and on as many times as you want. Best tool to use is (car) CV boot clamp pliers.

But, everything wears out eventually. And, if people are damaging them getting them on/off, they'll wear out even faster.

I am building a similar self-designed ultralight with the same Polini 202 motor, what propeller pitch should I use?
@HomebuiltHELP

My prop is not adjustable for pitch. The pitch measurement is not useful without knowing the blade length and width - among other variables. EProp selected a ready made prop from their inventory when I told them about my configuration (tractor ultralight with Polini 202 and how much clearance for prop diameter). Made it easy to get it right first time from their testing/experience. Just a suggestion.

Looks like you can release that clamp with a flat-bladed screwdriver.

Pretty nice, but my Crash-Copter was even cheaper.
