if you were to cut the lap joint, then section the frame just forward of that it would have made your lives a lot easier and it take all of the guesswork out of making everything fit

I basically done the exact opposite thing last year. Turned my Crew cab short bed LBZ to a dually flat bed. Took 14" rear sections of a donor frame and added to rear of my frame, moved hangers and moved rear crossmember back 14". Lot of work but I love my flatbed now. Use it for work every day. 405K and still going.

Looks like the professor hasn’t missed a beat since the old fabricating days of building the Kodiak monster truck! Just went from big tires and blow alcohol, to a Shorty and ripping Duramax! Great context!

That would be a perfect plow truck.
@nunyabiz87082 жыл бұрын
Back in the day this was my go to for plow trucks.. I used FWD 1 ton chassis with narrow dual rear wheels. Chop frame but pie cut the frame for strength. Use a flat side 6' box then rubbed the rear box to clear the rear dual wheels. Big block under hoods and 8.6 fr ok not plow and a rear back blade.

Id c-notch that frame if you want to have any travel in the rear. I have the djm 3/5 in my lbz, overload spring taken out and there’s probably 2.5” between the frame and axle. Rides fine but if I put just groceries in the bed it bottoms out on good bumps. I’m getting a lot of squeaks too but good luck on the build. Who doesn’t want a diesel shorty haha

Where did you get your inspiration to make a shorty duramax
@Z71_Kevin2 жыл бұрын
I get what you guys are trying to do but why didn’t you take the cab off the frame and cut/grind the seam weld under the cab where the rear half and front half of the frame meet together? You could of cut out your 14” by cutting the rear half of the frame, then slide the rear half of the frame into the front half, and weld the 2 frame half’s back together. The rear suspension would of been in the factory location.
@05Duramax072 жыл бұрын
I just came here to say this, except that seem isn’t under the cab, it’s at the rear section of frame. But same idea. They’re fucking it away.
@matt.lander2 жыл бұрын
It’s kinda wonky tbh but in terms of frame longevity and mounting the bed in the factory position ig it makes the most sense. Ig there’s a reason why there’s a kit for this way
@yovision3292 жыл бұрын
Probably preferred to cut off the rear of the frame rather than welding it together. Frame longevity type thing.
@05Duramax072 жыл бұрын
@@yovision329 you’re literally trimming the frame and rewelding it at the factory seam. Doesn’t affect integrity and a skilled welder would actually end up welding it stronger than factory.
@yovision3292 жыл бұрын
@@05Duramax07 Gotcha idk much about Chevy frames figured they z cut it and re weld like most do.
