I use the phrase”Gundam transformer” all the time, a lot of folks do. It’s used to denote whichever Gundam is the dedicated transforming mobile suit of a particular series (usually since zeta there’s at least one) it’s used less like “A” Gundam transformer, and more like “the” Gundam transformer of that particular series or movie.

As someone who loves both Gundam and Transformer franchises, I don't see any heresy here. Transformer is something that transforms, and Murasame transforms 😂

I so much prefer this type of "partsformation" instead of compromising the integrity of the entire kit for an optional feature many people won't ever bother with.

im torn, on one hand partsformation does feel like a cheap answer, and fully transformable gimmicks feel more impressive. but on the other hand, its as you said, the integrity IS compromised for something people will AT MOST do a couple of times before leaving it in either MS or MA mode.

After making a few hundred kits I fully embrace partsformations. I tend to get multiple copies to display the different modes together and the fully transformable kits tend to be the worst ones to handle in every version. Glue can easily solve problems with the fighter/waverider/mobile armors but it's a pain and a half to pose a model where the shoulder keeps pushing into the body or a hidden second elbow and knee joint bends back.

I also embrace Partsformation as a gimmick due to the inherent strength and stability it offers over perfect transformation, and for smaller stuff it's the ideal way to do transformation mechanisms. The difference in strength between say the RG Zeta and the HG Zeta Gundams is night and day, the former being a floppy mess, and the other being rock solid. On the other hand full-transformation mechanics are fascinating to do, and you get a better appreciation for how certain mecha transformations work once you're able to hold it in hand and see how everything comes together. Back in the day when I went into a gunpla hiatus the kit that brought me back to it was the HG Aegis Gundam, which had a transformation sequence so intriguing I just HAD to get it to see how it was done, and for me it was amazing. For larger kits like 1/100 gunpla full transformations is one of the features they should do to give the kits their premium quality.

both U.C. and C.E. has units that look like a Gundam but weren't named as such, U.C. has the Blue Destiny which has a Gundam head design but does not have Gundam in its name.

Instead of the Blue Destiny you could have gone with the Delta Plus and Zeta Plus machines. The Zeta Plus especially was a machine with a huge variety of subvariants.

Murasame is the expy of Zeta Plus just like how Destroy is the expy of Psycho Gundam. You can even say that Destiny is the expy of Zeta Gundam. Not only they serve as mid season upgrade, but they also share the same color scheme (majority white frame, blue torso, shoulders, arms, black and red backpack)

I feel that expecting perfect transformation from an HG budget is a bit of wishful thinking; not a huge fan of how much of the suit has to be set aside for the Mobile Armor mode but it's fine now to wait for Bandai to actually ship enough stock to fill all of HLJ's preorders...

it very much depends on the design, the old old hg zz was a perfect transformation, but that compromised the proportions and poseability (they didn't have the tech for the leg flair that the zz verka has).

The lack of actual transformation joints makes me sad, because the old HG Murasame had one chest hinge that made the transformation more intuitive than the old HG Zeta at that time. Sure, it was still a partsformer, but that kit didn't really feel like disassembling some Lego parts just to rearrange things for the "transformation", which is a big letdown for this new Murasame Kai kit.

That’s a hard one, they’re all pretty great. What’s weird is they all have a little bit of a disappointing aspect, usually to do with color separation. Maybe I’ll make a ranking video after the white black knight and the destiny come out
