Building the Ultimate MK7 GTI Clubsport - Part 2 Chassis

In Part 2 we focus on the chassis and suspension geometry in order to sharpen up the GTI even further.
These are the parts used:
Audi aluminium subframe
034 subframe locking kit
Whiteline LCA
034 dog-bone insert
MSS Track springs
Superpro rear trailing arm bush

In hindsight I would have gone Superpro. Just better quality and actually do what they say. The Whiteline didn’t give any extra neg camber which was disappointing.

Track Hack hi,which super pro would you go for street golf r I think there’s 2types?

Lou Stath depends on your wheel setup. Get the one with more aggressive caster if your not running super aggressive fitment.

Track Hack ok thanks and subframe should I go for the Audi s3 from the wreckers or buy the clubsport one depending on price ?

@@loustath1583 Just get one from the wreckers from an A3, they are all the same part. Buy the 034 Motorsports locking kit which comes with the bolts you need to fit.

Wondering if i should fit an ally subframe. Only reason being that it's on the CSS. What's the real world difference? I'm about to fit Eibach anti-roll bars, Bilstein B6 dampers keeping the standard springs (don't want lower) so would be a good time to get a subframe off ebay but is it really worth it?

Can't wait to install the same mounts, bushings and subframe on my Mk7.5 GTI. I'm on coilovers which have been awesome. I'm curious why you didnt go that route as well since you shelled out a good amount for Alcon 6 pistons. Why not pick up some type of 2 or 3 way adjustable coilover?

@@trackhackau Thanks for this video, very helpful as planning to do the subframe swap soon along with a few other upgrades. Did you need different hardware or is it all the same size nuts and bolts as for the pressed steel item? Thanks again.

Aluminium subframe needs different bolts. They are longer.

Hi Andrew, did you get to measure the weights of the aluminium subframe and whiteline's LCA? are they significantly lighter than the stock ones?

I never weighed them together but both items are lighter than steel versions. Subframe is about 3kg lighter

Hi Andrew how are the mss springs looking at putting them in golf r are they any good, if so would you go Sport ones for street duties?

To be honest the track version are not that stiff at all and are very comfortable. I’m very happy with how they ride. If just for the street then Sport would most likely be the best fit.

What camber you've gained over the stock Clubsport ?

I’m about -3deg now. Standard Clubsport is less than -1 same as a GTI PP

How aggressive are the alignment settings on it? Camber, castor, toe F&R?

My track setup is pretty aggressive. When this was shot I had -2.2deg front, 9.5 deg caster. Toe out (I don’t know the number I just trust my guy) Rear has -1.85 deg camber and toe out. Car now has -3 up front as I added offset strut tops.

Track Hack Nice one mate, good to hear about others set up. I have a 2+ MK6 R build I have been plodding away on and more seriously during covid. Adding MCA coilovers, Alcons, whiteline swaybars, control arms, rear trailing bush etc Car is set up- -3 camber on front -2.5 on rear 7.5 caster -1.2mm total toe Heading back to Wakefield in few weeks. When are you heading back out?

Track Hack Hopefully this whole covid thing keeps getting less and less. And more events start opening back up getting back to whatever normal is now. Few weeks away weathers great for PBs atm. It’s a great package, How much further are you going with the car?

Six Foot Productions it is great weather for PBs. There were some great times over the weekend. I need to get back out there. Still more to do on the car. I may eventually go coil overs and fit a wavetrac. Plus do the rest of the rear end with Superpro bushes. If I get crazy I might go carbon bonnet and front guards. I’d be keen on more power too. So waiting on an E85 option from APR or a hybrid turbo setup.

Love your videos but the sound is awful, grab some kind of external mic or lapel mic you can wear it'll change things dramatically

Yeah I know. I used a shotgun mic and it just wasn’t good enough. I use lapel mics when it’s just me which is easy. Didn’t have the gear for 2 people.

Thought the Clubsport was perfect? Or so some think. So many parts. But one can make it better. Money and time.

It is a great package. Until you want to go faster. Front end doesn’t have the sharpness of the CSS. So needs work. It’s now amazing.
