This week I go about installing the first set of Clubsport S parts for the Clubsport (not S) GTI. The lower control arms and hub carriers. I talk about why I'm fitting them, some of the challenges and then review the overall result.
For anyone else that wants to do this. Here are the options.
Clubsport S complete LCA with bush 5Q0407151K and 5Q0407152K
Front bush only (what I did) 5Q0407183F
Part number of the tool I used for the job T10533 (only for DSG)
Hub carriers 5Q0407253E and 5Q0407254E
Don't bother with the hubs you don't need them

I wasn't aware of the clubsport bushings. I went with super pro poly bushes with the eccentrics to gain static caster which helps the nose of the car diving up and down. Fancy ass DSG tool you have there! I dropped my subframe to get the driver's side arm out. I had solid s3 bushes on my mk5. They lasted about 20k of hard street usage so I opted for poly on the mk7. Replacing both control arm bushes to poly made a huge difference in wheel hop and turn in response. Much more stable on long curving freeway ramps.

Yeah I think poly or rubber is a good choice for a street car. The bush is also used on the TTS and RS3. It’s also really cheap to buy.

I owned a clubspor before my clubsport S, didn’t even know this part was diffrent... i will be installing kw clubsport 2 way coilovers soon. Removing kw v2 coilovers this weekend

That’s awesome that you have experience with both cars. We did not get any CSS in Australia. The Clubsport is actually closer to a GTI PP suspension wise than a Clubsport S. It’s the different suspension components and setup that in my opinion makes it so special. Would love to have the extra power too. I hear the KW clubsport are awesome. Enjoy!

Seeing as theres a tool for moving the gearbox, u should be able to undo the dogbone and use a prybar to shift it foward

Thank you. 🙏 Hopefully in the next few weeks. I needed to buy some tools to successfully remove the hub carrier. I have those now so I can re-attempt the install.

Bearings are from tts, 85mm vs 80 mm external diameter

Hi there, thanks for the content. I would have expected that the Clubsport steering knuckles would have been your main focus, not the bushes. Was hoping you would have reported on the difference the added negative camber made...what do you think?

Knuckles weren’t fitted yet. There is another video for that.

Hi just sharing some info here, I have installed the TT aluminum LCA and adjustable ball bearing on my GTI, just after the installation before alignment the car has around 5 degrees of negative toe on left and right which I think this LCA increased the front track too(which should make the car more oversteer in corner), after alignment and take a drive, the bushing feels stiffer and less comfortable when going over speed bumps but the initial response is slightly increased, I also noticed the on-centre steering effort is less than before, now I am running 2.5 deg negative camber at front, should be healthy for track use

Thanks for the feedback on the TT LCA. 2.5deg camber is excellent! That is more than I will achieve with the CCS hub carriers. I was considering this option as well. However I thought there was some kind of compatibility issue with alu subframe? I may be mistaken.

Track Hack My car is a standard GTI and I fitted the aluminum subframe with the TT LCA, works fine, I don’t find any compatibility issue :)

Should I do club sport control arms? Or just do bushes? I have a MK7 performance package 5 door USA model.

If you can take off your existing arms to get new bushes pressed I'd do that . The arms are the same, just the bushes are different.

Did you had to loosen the exhaust double clamp and remove the exhaust system bracket from the subframe? I was told that it needed to be done. Would you please verify that what I was told is correct? I ordered the T10533 tool to do the job. Thanks in advance.

Was a while ago now but pretty sure I didn’t. I just followed the workshop manual (which you can find online if you hunt around).

In the video you said the new wheel bearing are not needed, is that still true? Im about to upgrade the swiwels and i dont know if i need to buy the wheel bearings also. I have done some research and the css bearing have different part number than the s3,r,gti. Im wondering if they are the same.

I honestly can’t spot the difference between the two. Depending on how many miles on your existing bearings. It may be worth replacing anyway.

@@trackhackau do you have the part number for the bearings? I have heard somewhere that the RS3 has beefier front bearings and I wonder if they're the same.

@@KXP70 8S0498625 is the part number I used for mine. As you can see its an Audi part number. Same part left and right.

After all that you didn't really explain what you noticed with the new bushes? Better turn in? More control? Camber change after wheel alignment?

I didn’t change those. I believe they are the same even on the Clubsport S

The lower control arm parts are showing as discontinued. Where did you order them from?

Cars245.com has them for $32 does say special order. ECS have them for $50
