It’s too late for this one, but I’d recommend doing the “truss” leveling, before any sheathing. The fasteners on the sheathing are fighting you a little bit when it is nailed down first.

Good morning Lumnah family and all the viewers today! Nice rooster crow as you said good morning. I like the way you came up with to straighten out the levels of the awning roof rafters. That floor jack idea is great! It looks great with the Grace membrane on and it all taped down with Zip tape. Yes, we hear coyotes at night here too. All the animals are in the barn at night so everybody stays protected. Sometimes we can hear them yipping in the front yard of our house at night. Thanks for this video Lumnah family! Back in 1949-50 my mom & dad started building our home. Dad designed & learned by doing & with help from friends got direction on the plumbing & electrical. He had basic tools & gallons of elbow grease & ambition. Dug the basement with pick & shovel & wheelbarrow at a time got that ready for the cement floor & laid all the blocks. He got the house framed, roofed & ready got us to move in while he continued with the work a full time job & provide for the growing family. We moved in the end of 1951 - I was 9 months old. There were 7 of us kids, the older sisters helping mom with the younger & the brothers learning & working beside him. Watching you & Gina working side by side, first at the original property & the continuing story to the off grid property. Your family is such a blessing to so many of us. You have brought back so many memories of all that went into providing for us & continued refining the home until Parkinson’s disease claimed him at much to young an age. Thank you so much for documenting your journey, I wish I had the same. What you are doing will save these memories for your family & generations to come, what a blessing for them! What inspiration you are giving to many out there, who have dreams as well. Thank you & God bless! Gina, praying you have a great recovery from your most recent surgery!

Al, you are truly dedicated to task. I’ve reached an age where I can’t make myself leave the house if it’s below freezing let alone stay out there long enough to get any meaningful work done. Huge respect. You don’t always do things the way others might but it comes out right when it’s done. My thought is that you work on it till it suits you and that’s a pretty high standard so problem solved. As long as the firebox is nice and hot, the wet wood will dry out. But I agree with you that dry wood is best for firing!

The roof looks good. It’s better to over-engineer something than to have it fail at the wrong moment. I chuckled twice-when you rolled out the hydraulic jack, and when the kittens were playing in the big long box. Ingenuity is a good thing as long as the end result is good. The kittens sure had fun with the big long box to play in! I love your videos.

Good Morning! I don't think your jig was off. You are building with wood, not steel. Every piece is going to be different. Finish carpenters use all kinds of tricks to cover up the imprecision of rough framing. Don't forget your drip rail after you paint that fascia 2x6.

I think Al did wonderful but now wish you guys had more of a patio thing going on. You need a sheltered place now for a deck table, chairs and even a outdoor couch!!!! Oh and the bbq!!!! Well! I have so much to comment on! First, Al you left us with a Clift hanger with all the howling coyotes! That was definitely eerie. 😬 Then, that overhang! Between all the nails, screws, glue, metal and wood supports that overhang will still be there for your great grand children. Here is where we see the perfectionist Al at his best. Al, if people trained under you we would definitely have well made houses. It is 37 here and you are working outside at zero. Well let me hush up and just say well done and hugs from N.C..❤️

@Sam Valentine Coyotes here in N.C. are rarely seen or heard in packs like that. They are not thought fondly of by most people with outside pets and animals in more rural areas. I am not an overly anxious person but like Al said I would keep my eyes open. They can be very sneaky. Hugs from N.C..❤️

G'day, Agnes! Yes, it's great to see all the feline action... although hearing those howls at the end, it makes me worry about The Lumnahs critter population... the goats, the chickens, the cats & dogs... those coyotes are predators and need to respect Gina, Olivia and Al's boundaries!

First of all, Al ... those bibs are designed to be SKI pants, NOT wood-working pants, so of course, you will not find hooks for your tools. Just sayin'. Secondly, that box the grace came out of? Well, the kitties say "perfect. Just the right size for the two of us kits and thank you very much for this box!". Thirdly, I love the way you ENJOY so thoroughly, all the nature around you out there. You cheer us all up and FOURTHLY, those coyotes had an eerie sound in the dusky light of nighttime. and FIFTHLY, so lovely to see Gina there all happy and recovering from her last surgery. In older days the ladies made a lace collar to fancy up an otherwise plain dress for Sunday, that roof did just that to make an otherwise plain house into a special home. A clean look will/should help protect the face and sidewalk of the home. A perfect addition and any preventive measures are worth the time, so well done with the zip tape!

Hey Al! Looks like you forgot to square them up before you assembled them. They might slowly force themselves back even after jacking, as the ends of lumber are soft enough for the fasteners to bend. You may have also broke some some of the gusset connections. Make sure you add some more fasteners to them, and add hangers or brackets to the front connections of the ones you lifted to guarantee they don't move.

Just an idea: Nail a 1x4 to the underside of the 2x6. This creates a pocket on the backside for the placement of rope LED lighting for dramatic lighting feature. They have rope lighting that changes colors and has various sequenses.

I love Grace. We used it on our mountain cabin in Colorado, and again on our old farmhouse in Missouri. The people in Missouri thought it was overkill, and we thought it was perfect considering the amount of rain we got. We had to order through a lumberyard there because it was kind of unheard of. Sure hope it’s catching there. Yep, love that Grace.
