Building Tread Lightly a design by John Welsford

Building Tread Lightly with a modified and shortened cabin for day sailing. This design is the forerunner to Scamp which is slightly shorter and with a single lug rig. I built the boat with a built in electric trolling motor and oar ports to accommodate rowing the boat easily.

John designs beautiful little ships.....complicated?????.......strong yes!!!!!!! Have a go and you will find everything good, better and more than likely best!!!!!!

Looks like he forgot the bow. Must have used the car from American motors called the Gremlin as an inspiration for the design. But nice workmanship in the build

He designs nice boats no doubt, but i've been told that his designs can be a bit complicated, when it really doesn't need to be

In my considerable experience with Johns designs I can tell you very few are exactly to plan. Once get through the basics you see the changes to make it yours. Light but strong too..... never seen one get broken. Woodenboat NZ.
