For future advice, little blocks of wood under the rim just to prop it up some off the table will help with the having to push the spoke toward the hub and pulling on it. Having the wood under the left/right side of rim will allow things to loosen up a bit

Ok! I tried it and my spokes are a little too long- (3-4mm). 19" excel rim, aftermarket hub. Tusk spokes and nipples. Already bottomed out spokes with tips poking out before I fully tightened them. The spokes are the same length as the originals. It must be the hub is not spec'd correctly. Any fixes for that???

You should pick up a cheap dial indicator at harbor freight and set it up instead of the pointer rod. You can get your wheels dialed in really close and it's easier to see exactly where they're off and how much.

@AuMechanic6 жыл бұрын
I count the flats when turning nuts rather than rotations of the spoke nut. Easier counting 4 flats per turn then trying to remember 1/2, 1/4 or 3/4 turn You can go around and tap each spoke with the tool and it makes the same sound to indicate all spokes are same tension too.

I'll pass on the drinking game! I like to sip my whiskey. Preferably after all the bike maintenance is done. How does the weight of the TUSK compare to the stock stuff? I think that is the biggest difference between say a dubya or excel set up. It costs more to make it tough a light, but reduced un-sprung weight is a good thing. I doubt that a casual rider/enduro hack racer would notice a whole lot. Budget wise I just can couldn't make a 1500 dollar set of wheels work out. About to buy a new to us bike for my wife that has a crack in the front rim. Will likely do like you and toss some TUSK or Moose hoops on there. Actually a local shop has a great price on some black ones hanging in the showroom.
