GM from Toronto. I went away from “computer “ based systems…not entirely..but I don’t run a pc for my music streaming. System: Denafrips Ares 12-1 DAC ( the heart of the system) Audiolab 6000CDT 💿transport. Wiim Pro Streamer SCHIT Lokius EQ. Bryston BHA-1 Headphone Amplifier/Preamp. Headphones Sen’s , HiFiman and AUDEZE…along with a bunch of IEM’s. Your DAC is still the heart and soul of my system.

Yet another excellent video! I told Vincent that I enjoy your videos so much that I even watch when you review products I'm less interested in. Of course, your Denafrips DACs are the stars! I learned something here. I had no idea of the superiority of USB over other connections. (I realize I2S is optimal). But, I had previously thought that both coaxial and optical were superior. I'll be doing some reconfiguration. It was an interesting decision on your part to feature products by other manufacturers to illustrate your ideas. It seems truly informative, and not just an advertisement. Again, my compliments. One final thought: your little Zotac computer. I never saw one before, but quickly found the website. What do you think of using one as a dedicated streamer, as opposed to the Wiim or similar devices. Is noise still the issue? Thank you.

Using PC USB to Ares 2, but don`t like that output sample rate is fixed(up/down sampling). Is it possible to send signal from Tidal as is, CD or Hires direct to DAC? Thank you

Hi, that would mean to use windows sound mixer to change the sampling rate to a fix one, i.e. 44.1KHz / 192kHz. In my opinion, that may not be a good solution - for sound quality consideration.

I have read that reducing the output volume of the computer by 3 db can improve the performance of the DAC by avoiding overload. However, this would mean using software volume control in the player (Audirvana Studio in my case). Would you recommend this or is it against your recommendation to not use digital volume control?

It really depends on the synergy between the software (Audirvana) and the DAC. If there is a need to reduce -3dB to provide a better headroom for the DAC, specifically, could be :)

To use with a power amp and passive speakers what would be the best solution? An all in one like the rme or separate units like pure dac + preamp? In your opinion what would is the best cheap unit to use as a preamp in this last scenario?
