Hi razyelleyzar, Appreciate Your insight very much. You definitely understand. A Motherboard Analysis should be a priority before getting into anything else. We have to start our Quest with Research of Design vs Implementation. If those Specs don't line up with our priorities, no point in going any further. A process of elimination. Fascinating, right.

love how straightforward and informative the videos are - i do have one quick question though: which *exact* heatsink does the m.2 take? the chart lists b650 taichi, and the x670e (non-taichi) - but not the x670e taichi itself! it's a pretty annoying oversight on their part, especially since it there isn't a part number in the manual.

Hi NewN0ld, Welcome! Just now seeing Your comment. Interesting question. Which one did you go with. Using Our Strategy of Analysis, what matters is which one best meets Your needs. Either one is a good choice. It's all about Design vs. Implementation. And Results. Duration of the Socket. Maybe. We think in terms of Chipsets since Chipsets rule. Technology can change any perspective very quickly. This class of Consumer Desktop Motherboards are short term Motherboards. If you stick with a Motherboard in this category for 3 Years, you've done well. Something new will come along and you'll want that. We all do. Upgrades! Built-in obsolescence. Whereas a Workstation class Motherboard should last 5 years. Options. To reiterate, watch the Chipsets.

Hi The Grumpy Papa, Welcome! Good Team Building experience for both of You! We Focus on Content Creation Rendering. However, this will do what You want! You're looking at probably a 3 year Consumer Desktop Computer in that range. 3 Primary Components, RAM, Motherboard and CPU. 1. ASRock X670E Taichi amzn.to/3SabpeG 2. Ryzen 9 7950X COU amzn.to/3Czi24x 3. Get only Memory for the Specific Model Motherboard QVL www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X670E%20Taichi/index.asp#Memory Recommend Kingston Brand. On ASRock QVL. Part Number: KF564C32RS-16 Kingston Fury Renegade Silver 16GB 6400MT/s DDR5 CL32 DIMM Desktop Memory Single Module. According to QVL, Supports 2 sticks, not 4 at that Speed. amzn.to/3VwYjLh Lots of considerations regarding RAM Speed, Quantity and Density of Chips. 2 x 16 = 32GBs RAM amzn.to/3VwYjLh For example, in a Slower Speed, but Denser, We would recommend the following based on QVL. Part Number: 16GBKF560C40BB-16 Kingston Technology 16GB 6000MHZ DDR5 CL40 DIMM Fury Beast Black www.provantage.com/kingston-technology-kf560c40bb-16~7KIN9413.htm The other Source would be direct from Kingston. Kingston Memory Configurator - ASRock X670E Taichi Motherboard www.kingston.com/en/memory/search/model/105212/asrock-x670e-taichi-motherboard For that Brand and Speed, Focus on Higher Performance Memory, Kingston Fury Memory. The options for RAM are vast. These are just a few options based on experience well suited to a new Platform such as DDR5. Your next big ticket item is Your GPU or Graphics card. Either an RTX 3090 or RTX 4090. And You'll want to purchase a Quality PSU - Power Supply. Recommend: EVGA, SeaSonic, Super Flower or Corsair, Fully Modular. Above 1,000 Watts, PCIe 5.0 and ATX 3.0 Compliant for the GPU. Do You need links for those other Components as a Guide? You'll see how totals add up. More like above $2,500. Hope that helps!

Only found this channel recently, loving your content. Planned on getting a Taichi, just need a clarification about bifurcation. With the [x8x4x4] setting, they mean that the first PCIe slot is running in 8x and the 2nd PCIe slot is running with 4x4x, right? I can't think of a use case, where it would need to split the whole first PCIe into a 8x4x4x configuration...
@BuildOrBuy
@BuildOrBuy Жыл бұрын
Hi meekrophone, Welcome! Appreciate Your Comments! In Bios under PCIe / GFX Lane Configuration, X8X4X4 is useless. Only X4X4X4X4! That indicates Bios Bifurcation per PCIe Slot. That indicates per Slot. Remember there are 16 CPU PCIe Lanes to be Shared between 2 PCIe Slots. That's X8/X8. To reiterate the X8X4X4 is only on the Primary Slot. See next Slot Setting. 2nd Slot will have X8. And that 2nd Slot cannot be Bifurcated to X4X4. To reiterate, that 2nd Slot is only X8. Not ideal. Hope that explanation helps! You're right, Splitting or Bios Bifurcating the 1st Slot to X8X4X4 is not a good use of CPU PCIe Resources since 4 CPU PCIe Lanes are lost.

Thank you Sir for this amazing video, Im scared of anything Asus lately even though it was my first choice for boards always, but after those recent scandals with BIOS and Asus boards literally frying cpus and rams, i really dont want to put 700$ cpu into anything Asus, so Ive come to conclusion that I only have two choices for 3d design , USB4 connectivity for TB audio interface and audio design and game development and those would be 1. Asrock x670e Taichi and 2. Gigabyte Aorus x670e Master, ( which has usb4 add in card) Based on your vast experience and knowledge do you think Asrock is any shape or form is built cheaper and is using cheaper components than Gigabyte? and which would you choose out of those ? Thanks, Best regards - Dave

Hi Dave, Welcome! Just now seeing Your comments. Crystal Ball. In retrospect, Vendors were pushing too fast without AMD direction. Tsk tsk on both sides. None of that should have happened. But it did. Ouch. Both are or were responsible. Going forward, remember ASRock started out making Products for ASUS. Interesting question in terms of perceived quality. Also consider in terms of sales. And then historically in terms of AMD vs Intel. Lots to consider. Based on that speaking to your Questions, yes I have my preferences based on experience however, I prefer to start every search based on Design vs Implementation 1st. With that being said, having used every brand, on AMD, Gigabyte 1st. But I still start out using the Prime Directive as stated then go from there. Every Motherboard we look at has fascinating choices made. Some choices are odd. Some Implementation choices make sense. By prioritizing Design vs Implementation helps to stay focused on what, why, how and results. AMD does the best Design on utilization of PCIe Resources. ASUS historically does the best with Implementation. However, We've had the best longevity with Gigabyte on AMD. As always, results may vary among different Users. Fascinating right. To reiterate, great questions. Now which did you choose and why.

Thanks Gill, great content and discussion points. You mentioned in the video that it is possible to get 3 monitors through the IO panel without having a GPU. I am having difficulty understanding how this is possible and what quality/resolution would be possible by doing this. I have only ever considered using a GPU to connect multiple monitors. Maybe processing power required for 3 x 4K monitors @ 60hz is not as high I perceive. You have mentioned on a couple occasions recently with displayport alt mode that a cable from the GPU to the IO panel helps with monitors. I don't understand why going to the IO panel and not direct to a monitor adds value? I run 3 x monitors from my RTX A4000 GPU plus the remaining port to blackmagic ATEM mini for screen capturing. I then have 2 USB-A to HDMI emulators to push the other 2 monitors to the ATEM Mini for recording. I am beginning to think based on your comments that there might be a better way to manage my setup.

Hi Murray, Welcome! Great Questions! And Smart Setup using anything Blackmagic! The Ryzen 9 7000 Series Processors currently Listed, all support DisplayPort Alternate-Mode. On this Motherboard, there are 3 Video Outputs. 1. HDMI maximum resolution up to 4k 120Hz 2. 2 USB4 Ports maximum resolution up to 8k 60Hz. That's a lot of data pumping through those Ports. Yes, Onboard Video is integrated in the CPU. 2 GPU Cores. Not enough for Rendering but good enough for Video Output! Using Pro Gear like Blackmagic requires either SDI or HDMI. HDMI is easy with a Decimator MD-HX Cross Converter. We use a Blackmagic ATEM Video Switch as well! Fascinating topic and technology! AMD Ryzen 9 7950X See: Full Specifications, Graphics Capabilities www.amd.com/en/product/12151 A Cable from GPU to I/O Panel is to route Video out of GPU, back in through DisplayPort IN if available to Route Video Back OUT through Thunderbolt USB4 which seems crazy but that's how it works. And those who do that are adamant about the capability! Thunderbolt does not have Video. Video has to be Routed In to be Routed back Out. Keep Your current setup. It works! Hope that helps! Hi@@FliesEyes, AMD supporting DisplayPort Alternate-Mode Mode is a feature of these new AMD Ryzen 7000 Series CPUs. Intel supports DisplayPort Alternate-Mode through Thunderbolt from what We've seen. Whereas AMD has support through more options at this time! And now Overclocking to get those Faster CPU Cores! Interesting to note, on an AMD Consumer Desktop Motherboard, CPU Core Count stops at 16 CPU Cores. Whereas Intel now has 24 CPU Cores but the PCIe Lane count remains the same. More PCIe Lanes and Higher CPU Core Count, Workstation! Now for a Workstation that supports Overclocking! Not all do! Fascinating exploring the different Render engine Optimizations! Our Rendering Requirements are easier to define using the Adobe Rendering Formula. Have You used a Xeon? Currently using 12900k, 16 CPU Cores. Would You be benefit from more CPU Cores?
@FliesEyes
@FliesEyes Жыл бұрын
@@BuildOrBuy we have moved away from Xeon in recent times in search of frequency. They did get close to parity a few years ago but the new hybrid pCores and eCore and higher frequency has pushed us way from Xeon. Cloud and GPU rendering with the likes of TwinMotion does switch the balance of focus. It seems having a machine that is heptathlete, strong but not strongest in any specific single application is my need. I have also found running scripts on local fast SSDs direct to the CPU improves completion times. We are considering using the Blackmagic NAS storage (thunderbolt or 10gb not sure yet) for CAD models to allow a team to access. Using nVidia grid to provide us access this compute power from anywhere we think might be our best solution.

Check the Motherboard Bios Manual on each for GPU Pass-Through.This ASRock has better utilization of PCIe Resources from Our perspective. As for Dual GPU, each will be X8, electrically on any Consumer Desktop Motherboard. The CPU only has so many CPU PCIe Lanes to work with! As long as You're aware of that. If You want or need more CPU PCIe Lanes, that requires a Workstation CPU and Motherboard! With that You'll definitely have GPU Pass-Through for VMs! Hope that helps!

Hello William Pessoa, Welcome! Depends! All Motherboard Manufacturers are grappling with Bios issues over CPUs and DDR5. These are growing Pains getting Us ready for next Generation DDR6! The I3C Bus alone is a major upgrade from the I2C Bus! And long overdue! The simplest implementation would be the MSI ACE. No Thunderbolt to hassle with. Do You need or want Thunderbolt? Furthermore None of these Consumer Desktop Motherboards should cost over $500.00. Beyond that We're approaching either a HEDT or a Workstation class Motherboard with Dedicated PCIe Resources. Hi Greggch, Welcome! Excellent Question. To differentiate from an M.2 SSD vs an M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. We'll focus on the later. Looking at the Motherboard Block Diagram, M.2_1 aka M2_1 is using 4 CPU PCIe Lanes. That's where you'll want your Primary M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Drive. Location? Looking at the Motherboard Layout, M2_1 is the top M.2 Slot. Or right above the top PCIe Slot which is where your GPU will reside and also use CPU PCIe Lanes. You are good to go!

Thanks for the review, which has convinced me buying this board. However, I do have a lot of issues with it, which I was able to track down to the ASMedia Controller responsible for supplying the other four SATA Ports. When connecting my SATA Hard Disks to them, I do get frequent Driver-Powerstate Errors resulting in BSODs with my Windows 11 OS (even after a fresh install). This does not seem to happen, when connecting the same HDs to the other X670E chipset controller. Is there anyone out having this board featuring the same probs? I got another hint to enable the HIPM Setting in Poweroptions but I actually think such things should run out of the box

@@BuildOrBuy Hi, here is my finding so far: I found a driver for the ASMedia 106x Controller on the internet. Once I have installed this, I had no more BSODs so far. On the other hand I do no longer hear the Harddisks waking up so I have the suspicion if the driver did not just keep them awake all the time irrespective of Windows power management settings sending them asleep when idle for a given time - BSODs are only appearing when switching from asleep to awake with the power request not being answered in time. I am in contact with ASROCK to get this analysed.

Hi Madds, Welcome! First, let's step back and assess Your Requirements. Do You want 2 - X16 Slots or can You utilize 2 - X8 Slots? If the latter is acceptable then on any Consumer Desktop Motherboard, CPU PCIe Lanes are Prioritized according to 1st Slot, 2nd Slot then M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Drives. Then Chipset Lanes follow. The problem You'll encounter is Slot width of each GPU. Does that help? Each Consumer Desktop Motherboard has Shared PCIe Resources meaning not everything can be utilized simultaneously. Tradeoffs. For a Consumer Desktop Motherboard, 1 GPU would be preferable unless Your 2 GPUs are Water Cooled to reduce Slot width. Options! Changing one thing can change everything!

If you were to use an add a dual nvme add-in card (x8) to the second pcie lane limiting the primary slot to x8, would you be limiting the performance bandwidth a pcie 4.0 x16 GPU could provide to the chipset considering it is a pcie 5.0 slot??
@BuildOrBuy
@BuildOrBuy Жыл бұрын
Hi CyberMuse, Welcome! Seperate CPU Lanes from Chipset Lanes. Looking at the ASRock Bios Manual, looks like only the Primary Slot can be Bifurcated. If that 2nd Slot could be Bifurcated, Yes a Dual M.2 NVMe Adapter could be installed. The Bios Manual indicates: PCIe/GFX Lane Configuration - Configuration options: [Auto] [x8x8] [x8x4x4] [x4x4x4x4]. Therfore, in that scenario, Yes a Dual M.2 NVMe PCIe Adapter could be used in Primary Slot but no GPU in secondary Slot which would require using 8 CPU PCIe Lanes. The unkown, We don't know how this Motherboard would prioritize those Resources in that Configuration to Bifurcate Slot 1 with something in Slot 2 like a GPU. Risky! The key to making what You describe works would be to Bifurcate the 2nd Slot, preferably. Only way to know what You Propose would be to try and see what happens. Our expectations would be either the Motherboard would not Boot, if You're lucky or the smoke test. We are Accepting the Prioritization of Resources according to the Bios Manual expectations. Are You willing to try? Good luck! We do not advise trying! Travel at Your Own risk! The Chipset PCIe Lanes have no bearing on the CPU PCIe Lanes as it relates to PCIe Slots on this Motherboard. You're talking about a GPU of whatever Spec in a PCIe 5.0 Slot. A GPU using 8 CPU PCIe Lanes would be fine whether PCIe 4.0 or PCIe 5.0. The PCIe Bus is no longer about GPUs. It's all about M.2 NVMe PCIe Drives! However Motherboards prioritize GPU 1st then M.2 according to Resources. The 1st Test would be to install GPU in Slot 2 and Boot. 2nd test would be to Bifurcate Slot 1 and Boot with nothing in Slot 1. See what happens. 3rd test would be what You Propose. We're not will to risk those ramifications. The potential to ruin a Motherboard and maybe a GPU is not worth that expensive mistake. It might work but then what happens if does not? Those are assumptions We cannot advise being untested. Too great a risk. Hope that helps! The MSI MPG X670E Carbon WIFI is a better choice in PCIe Resource allocations. Our latest Video!
