I am happy to see that Asrock X670E series are built well. They had a bad track record before. In my opinion, spending hundreds for a premium AM5 board and getting overkill features is fine by me. Plus, the cheapest B650 I can purchase right now is still expensive. They are not far from the X670E pricing. So, might as well go for the X670E and finger cross, it will last till the end of AM5 support. On top of that, the Ryzen 7000 series CPU is still expensive in here. No price cut has been done like in USA stores. The only worthy CPU to go for is the 7950X. It is expensive but is performing on par with the best of Intel 13th Gen CPU.

The Motherboards aren't the issue, though they have built in fail safes recommended by AMD. The weirdness is in the AMD cpu on the memory controller, it's designed to not allow certain mixes of ram size and speeds. This goes all the way back to x370 and 470 as well. People were blaming the MB's for failures when they allowed the Memory controller to be overworked and thus get damaged until AMD clarified a max on what could be used.

It's nice that there some sane X670E boards out there, but the flaky support for 4 Dimms is a problem. I just had an unscheduled PC update: PC stopped booting (no life just drew 60w from the wall). After troubleshooting it seemed it was the motherboard so brought a X570S Gigabyte Aero G (4x M.2 slots👌). Didn't fix the problem so I brought a 5600X, that fixed it so it was the 3950X. While sorting out the RMA wasn't cutting effecting my work (even with PBO +200mhz) so brought a 5900X (nice mix of cores and cache), which was much better. Then AMD released the 7000 series price cuts... While prices have dropped DDR5 still costs double DDR4 (need 64GB), same with the motherboards. It's a lot of money when I already have decent components, it's likely I'll need 128GB in future in the near future (so 5000 is probably a better option). PS: You should do a video about NVMe RAID0, it's great for disposable data such as games and the 2x 2TB out perform virtually all 4TB drives (maxing the PCH bandwidth) when it cost only £300! 😎 Oh and the array survived switching motherboards, which I didn't expect..

Well as to AMD and memory my experience has been no problems. But after my 1st gen Ryzen with a GSkill set that was bad. I got a EVGA 3200 set that has worked across all revisions of Zen so far in my x370 Crosshair VI. I've since bought two x570 motherboards, Asus Crosshair Impact and Tuf Gaming x570 Plus wi-fi. The Tuf is running G Skill FlareX c14 3200 which I got on sale years ago. This is used for my HTPC. The Impact is my current gaming system with G Skill Neo 3200 c16 but I now have a 5800X3D in it so anything faster will not make a notable difference with my Sapphire Toxic 6900XT. I have a 1440p/144hz gaming monitor. I am what you would call a "casual" gamer. But I require top end performance. As too the heat situation. If anything this past summer has taught me and many gamers is that you need to exhaust the heat OUT of your room. Did you see all those YT videos about the Watercool MO-RA3-420 radiator to externally cool computer/gaming systems? That was with 3090ti's and Intel 12900K in their builds. Or Linus Tech Tips with the "grow cover" repurposed for exhausting the hot air from your pc to a dryer duct tube run out your window. This was a small room with no A/C. It reduced room temps by 10 degrees and the pc ran cooler overall. I just got the MO RA3 360 for my setup as I was roasted this past summer with 40C room temps (no A/C). My water loop temps with 2 360 rads was 50C while gaming without Radeon Chill the gpu hotspot would still hit 100C. Repasting only reduced it by 3 degrees at best, and that was with a 5600X OC'd to 4.75Ghz. My MO RA3 will sit near or in front of my window. Exhausting heat out in summer and warming the room in winter. Thank God for Black Friday deals. I was "broke" by Cyber Monday, lol. Next year I will revisit AM5 if the V-cache chips perform as well as the 5800X3D. But really how much more performance do current gen games need? Now with gpus inserting FAKE FRAMES into games. What will it matter? What's next? The game playing itself for you.

I don't think I'll be ready to go to 7950x from my 5950x for a year or two yet. It's gonna be such a hurdle with MoBo, 64GB Ram and the cpu when I have a fine system now. But I know that new system will power my 3D animations faster. But it really seems a good idea to wait a year or more as new boards and Ram come out, and folks like you show us the capabilities of each component. I wonder if a big tower cooler that'd be moving more air across the board might dispel some of the pcb heat around the CPU? I have huge positive pressure with 7 incoming fans and I suspect having air flow around the back of that MoBo, as well as the three top fans blowing down might help keep it cooler.

PCIe 5.0 seems to be a long way away from being important or useful at all for (almost) any personal computer (I'm not talking about workstations or servers and the like). If you're not sure if you might need PCIe 5.0 or not... don't worry about it. Selling your old motherboard and buying a new one is always an option in the EXTREMELY unlikely case that you do end up needing PCIe 5.0 at a later date. Even PCIe 4.0 currently has very limited usefulness for most users. Even the RTX 4090 runs fine on PCIe 3.0 (16 lanes of course), though I'm sure you can find very rare cherry picked scenarios where it runs significantly slower on PCIe 3.0 if you look hard enough. I find it funny that now, by far the most common benefit of PCIe 4.0 in a personal computer is to allow full compatibility with some low-end and low-mid-range graphics cards, where the cards use only 4 or 8 PCIe lanes in order to reduce manufacturing costs (and this is what results in needing PCIe 4.0 in order to not bottleneck the card's performance, which is especially the case with intel's A750 and A770). I know there are some SSDs which CAN go faster with PCIe gen 4.0 vs. PCIe 3.0, but it's not likely to actually matter, even for someone who does a lot of video production work. Maxing out PCIe 3.0 speeds for SSDs is already extremely fast, and probably not going to slow down your workflow, though if you CAN use PCIe 4.0 without significant additional cost, that could still be worth it I suppose.
@robertmyers6488
@robertmyers6488 2 жыл бұрын
I agree if you are using just a single gpu. If you want to have two gpus at the same time the problem is that there are configuration limits that this eliminates by having the lanes to the CPU. The M.2 PCIE 5 will be quite important very soon.

Nice video Bryan! Based off what Buildzoid has seen, 1.5v isn't an issue with many DDR5 modules (eg. SK Hynix a-die; m-die). Some modules (eg. 7200mhz) even come with 1.45V from the factory with XMP enabled. Heck, 1.5V is even listed as the max voltage in the SK Hynix datasheet for their current DDR5 chips. I'm curious to see if the limit is more cpu-based for the 7000 series... Also, for testing memory stability gaming really doesn't cut it - I would highly recommend using some free tools like y-cruncher; TestMem5; and LinpackXtreme etc. From personal experience, I've been able to hit 7000mhz/CL32 (RaptorLake) pretty easily with my run-of-the-mill Kingston Fury Beast 6000 kit (Hynix m-die), and rock stable @ 1.51v using the tools mentioned with dozens of passes. I haven't bothered pushing for a *stable* higher OC (yet), as I feel I'm at the sweet spot right now performance/voltage wise. I have gone up to 7400mhz in games, but it's not truly stable without higher voltages - which I'm not keen to daily drive yet.

Most midrange motherboards even have overengineered VRMs, it's a good thing for component longevity but it's extremely excessive on some boards. Let's say each mosfet phase can handle 25W of power delivery (they handle 50w or more per phase in reality if memory serves) if you have 10 phases you can easily push 225w consistently to the CPU for 24/7 operation. A decently spec'ed and cooled 4 phase VRM should handle a 200w chip, my b560 board has a 6+2 phase VRM my i7 only draws a peak of 165w when pushed with a power virus load, that's only about half of what the 6 phases for cpu vcore are rated to provide, the VRM doesn't even need the heatsinks on the board for the loads it will see. Any 20+ phase VRM is massive overkill even for extreme l2n overclocking you can't possibly push enough voltage to the chip without killing it to even come close to using that much power delivery, that's 1000+w of current delivery at stock spec.
@oMega-sm1eg
@oMega-sm1eg 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but if board makers stop adding those overbuilt VRMs people will immediately start complaining. There are few ways for a motherboard to stand out from the crowd except aesthetics and having a larger VRM phases count is actually the easiest to achieve, despite being almost meaningless in practical use.

Maybe overengineered for the current crop of Zen 4, but what about Zen 4+ or Zen 5? AM5 is supposed to support those as well. Besides which, do not trust the Taiwanese board makers' commercial claims. Oh and those "decently spec'ed and cooled 4 phase VRMs" are already used today and morphed into 8 phase or even 12 phase VRMs by the board makers' PR departments.

A plug for Ryzen 7000 - One of my games, Jedi: Fallen Order, still stutters with a R5 5600X, per tests uploaded to KZbin. The FPS also often drops to 80. A 7600X rarely drops to 120FPS. If you have a higher refresh rate monitor and a GPU that can keep up, a Ryzen 7000 seems really worth the extra few hundred USD. I just ordered a R5 5600, and I am wondering if I made a mistake, spending $1300 on a dead-end platform when $1650 would have gotten me a nice, fresh platform with a CPU that truly satisfies.

Even Raptor Lake only officially supports DDR5 5600. We will just have to see how official support improves over time. But, generational increases matter much more for performance than RAM speeds. Ryzens memory controller is a bit finicky and for good reason. You really don't need 6000+mhz for ram and the speeds while on paper look impressive in actual use the story changes drastically. Even for video content creators those high speeds show little impact for the added stress to expensive components. While intel CPU will let you fry your CPU MC, Ryzen will go to a no boot method in order to prevent damage. Do a test with 6k mhz and 4k mhz to see what you actually gain for the risks. It's money down the toilet like crazy high end GPUs that offer little jumps in performance for huge price margins.

The 4090 does fit inside the case, however the power cable stops me from putting the side panel on, waiting for CableMod to release their 90 Degree adapters in the coming weeks. These adapters will allow me to bring the cable in from the bottom of the card and thus stop it from exceeding the side of the case without having to do rediculous bends etc.

@@boboboy8189 you also count 2022 as 1 year. Just like X370 from 2017-2021 = 5 years

@@boboboy8189 anyway the distance between AM4 X370 Motherboard to Ryzen 5800X3D is 1905 days which means 5 years, 2 months, 20 days. So, if AM5 X670 can use Ryzen 10800X3D that will be more than 1800 days difference.

If I use the M2. Gen 5 slot that's shares with the CPU on the Taichi, will my Grafic card still run 16x or does it go down to 8x?

So there's 2 audio solutions for front and back? Normal budget boards just have one split between front and back right?

Does moving the primary m.2 on the Taichi away from the GPU and CPU socket help with heat dissipation / cooling?

My last couple builds were with Taichi boards. 1 is a X370 Taichi and the other is a X570 Taichi. I had planned on getting the X670e Taichi but then discovered to my dismay it's EATX which my case does not support. Changing cases is out of the question because I LOVE my case and it fits my entertainment rack perfectly. I opted this time for the ROG STRIX X670E-E GAMING. Ive had ROG boards before and they were fine. Still kinda sore about not being able to get the Taichi though.

not really, I got my 7900x for 570€ which is about the same as my 10700k cost. Motherboard cost like 220€ which is also about the same as my current LGA1200 one

I have nothing against this video, i think it reports some good info actually, but i have one pet peeve which i want to mention with the whole "sweetspot" claim. You say that at 6400mhz you had some crashes in games, therefore it is unstable and then you say that 6200mhz is the sweetspot, how can it be a sweetspot if its literally maximum possible speed? Other people also have massive issues getting 6200mhz stable on zen 4 so official claim that 6000mhz is the sweetspot is very rich considering that you need to have only two modules installed and the next step 6200mhz can be potentially unstable on your system, aka potentially maximum stable value. Idk if im being way to pedantic about this but i have very different understanding of what sweetspot supposed to be.🤷‍♂
