I was in a crappy band in high school called Mellow Stigma. My brother, Dano, and his friend Nick Garcia snuck us into the Neurolux to play a show for the first time in front of a live crowd. It was 1995 and I think we interrupted the Electric Peaches set. I was so scared....but I can still remember Doug doing the sound for us and telling me to turn up my guitar. I'm a single dad and an accountant now (suicidal??)...but Doug still inspires me to plug in and make some noise from time to time. That is one of my best memories. It is pretty cool to live in the same town as your musical hero. Thank you Doug. I appreciate all of the hard work you've put into making music that means a lot to me. John Madden, Boise

I got to meet and talk to Doug after a show a couple months back and before we parted he shook my hand, and like Excalibur from the stone, his touch transferred a small portion of his power and I now have the ability to play any Built to Spill song I wish... Well I still can't play like him but that's what it feels like to meet Doug Martsch.

+JcGrubbsFilms I met Jim Roth after a show in Gainesville, Fl. I was intoxicated after the show, went to the food truck, stood in line for a minute with a buddy(who is not so much a BTS fan), then as the person in front of me turned around, I noticed who it was. I said, " whoaaa, you're you! Jim Roth! One of the three reasons I began playing guitar(100% accurate). He had two arms full of nachos. He balanced them on one arm TO GIVE ME A HANDSHAKE AND FORMALLY INTRODUCE HIMSELF. He asked me my fucking name. There's not a band like this with such down to earth members on this fucking planet.

What about a bunch of clowns that make a bunch of noise with no substance?
@kevinmurtagh49965 жыл бұрын
craigdamage Dude... comment of the century!! never thought I’d see someone comment PRECISELY was I was thinking. It’s always driven me crazy when a band has 2+ guitarists live, and they’re are basically just playing the same power chords, with one of them switching to playing a solo during the solo, and then right back to playing the same thing as each other. I guess I understand if what you want is a muddied-up mess, but otherwise it’s so lazy and unoriginal. If you have multiple guitarists, take advantage of it! One great example of a band that perfectly made use of multiple guitarists was Fugazi. There wasn’t a rhythm guitarist and a lead guitarist. It was more that one of them played a crunchier style on an SG, and the other guy played a more “sparkly” Rickenbacker. It was the perfect two-guitar attack, imo. Another obvious example was Sonic Youth. They made better use of the guitar in general than anyone ever.

On the last song of the support band, he and the others get from the floor to the stage, they all take the instruments and play a last song with the support band.
