When I think about bulgogi, I think about my housemates in college that made this for our monthly celebrations. I lived in a house with people from all over Asia (I'm a plain-old white person!) and they shared all of their recipes with each other when we cooked for dinner. It was a fantastic experience, and I loved learning about my friends. Food is a wonderful way to share and experience cultures together. Thank you for making your recipes and culture so accessible.

I love bulgogi and have discovered that if you use a bit more ginger (ginger is a tenderizer) you can get by with less expensive cuts of meat. I was a butcher before I retired and used to watch for well marbled shoulder or even chuck. These cuts aren't as tender as fillet but, if they were from choice or prime beef, after the marinating they are good and actually have more flavor. I love your recipes Maangchi.

I followed this recipe almost exactly and it was DELICIOUS! Only things I did differently was use sirloin (my market was out of ribeye), omitted carrots (didn't have carrots), and marinated for almost 24 hours (since I prepped it the night before and couldn't take it out until I got back from work in the evening). I also had to use my stovetop since I didn't have a grill but it still cooked very nicely on high heat. I'm definitely gonna make this again, thank you for the recipe!

I think its a very korean thing (from watching their shows) ! They know how to enjoy their food and I see girls taking whole big bites especially when eating lettuce wraps, everything has to go in at once. I've also seen them manage to eat like that without looking sloppy at the same time! Don't know how they do it!
@BlastJH10 жыл бұрын
well that's korean culture. Korean doesn't understand why the western people bite them many times. Cause Korean think that bulgogi ssam(wrapping with lettuce) should be eaten by one big bite so they can feel the whole flavor and the harmony of bulgogi and vegetables.
