​@@calibvrmoose may not seek out calves to kill, but they are aggressive during rut, and if it decided to kick the calve away, or trample it on its way to the female, its lights out. All males during mating season are highly aggressive, and wandering babies can get killed in accident and afterthought. On top of the fact that many females try to avoid copulation but for a small window, as males hurt them too. Bucks in rut often exhaust and sometimes gore females to death in their aggression. A dedicated bull moose might prevent the female from nursing and protecting her calf, so she tries to get him to lose interest. They can also becone frustrated and try copulation with the baby instead. Deer relatives like giraffes are recorded as seeking out adolescent males to take out the competition before they BECOME competition. It's a dangerous world out there.

I appreciate your comment, as I live in the NWT, and this is my backyard. I am surprised when people can't understand why I pass on going to the tropics or Vegas for vacation. I went 13 years apart from my wife on our anniversary and broke that when I had her join me in the MacKenzie mountains for a two week self guided hunt for everything. That adventure changed her world. Make it happen, you will be a different person when you get home.
