I love the BT 100 motor very reliable. It does get hot sometimes in extreme summer temperatures. The vibration on the motor is very minimal. I have over 1600 miles on my motor with no problems I run 91 octane and synthetic oil at 32 to 1. My usual ride is usually around 30 miles with a couple of breaks.

Extra interesting vid. on the BT fuel vapor lock issue. This parallels carb. fuel systems vapor lock problems in older automobiles. I suggest some of the shiney foil covered heat reflecting ceramic fiber tubes available from Summit or Jegs. Split the tube lengthwise to slip on from underneath the fuel valve, filter & fuel line, & loosely tie it on w/zip ties. You should still be able to view the line & filter from above without removal of the radiant barrier. I believe you are correct in isolating the carb. with a thick, heat blocking base insulator gasket. Rubber hose mounts do the same thing. Also the "latent heat of evaporation" characteristics of gasoline really cool a carb throat down during high demand. I appreciate your attention to details in your videos, Thanks Mr. Hover!

I ran into the same intake heat issue with mine. Unfortunately, standard intakes wont fit due to the oddball 35mm spacing. What I did is fill the existing holes of 40mm intakes with JB Weld and re-drill for the 35mm spacing I needed. Works especially well for adding a reed valve. For windowed pistons, 47mm low hole type will fit.

I'm at the "discovery" this sounds like a call for water injection cooling. My '71 VW transporter on a daily commute of 80 miles up a 5,000 ft mountain during the hot Summer - never had to pull over. You can do it with gravity feed - but it should really have a vacuum valve - I used a windshield washer pump - that pump will need cooling btw or it will burn out - or get a rated pump. You're right - it will save your engine and make it "water cooled" for about $20.

I have the same issue with boiling the fuel on one of my 49cc 26" mtb with the same stubby intake, I created a ram air pipe that scoops cool air from the front and goes into the air cleaner box, haven't had a hot enough day to test it properly but it feels like the scoop helps with power pick up when you get moving!

Hello MBJ, it’s been a while. Still love watching your stuff, and I’m still building, though my situation has changed pretty drastically, and don’t have as much time to dedicate to it these days… anywho, my friend, I just recently found a part that bikeberry has available called the “CC X-Port exhaust assembly”, now it says it’s for the exhaust, but it matches perfectly to the intake on my bike, and it came with paper gaskets, and so I got a couple of em to experiment with. Unfortunately my bike is not gonna be in any condition to test them for a while… if your carb is overheating, maybe one of those can help, it’s got cooling fins on it, and they’re on sale right now for about $20. Hope this helps buddy!😎👍🏻

Those 52mm 2 piece iron sleeve engine kits would have been awesome & probably outsold everyone else if they weren't so defectively made. You could make an air scoop to help cool the cylinder. Aftermarket air scoops worked pretty good on old 2 stroke motorcycles before they went to liquid cooled. Most were just made of plastic that zip tied in place & directed more air flow to blow on cyl. You could make a really nice one by using cardboard & tape to build a mockup & template pieces. Cut your aluminum pieces/ shapes out, then all you need to weld the aluminum pieces together is...Propane torch, new uncontaminated stainless steel wire brush & "alumi-weld" rods from Harbor freight ( not rods for a stick welder) Use some small screws to mount air scoop onto engine. I've had my $25 runleader temperature/ tach/HR meter gauge on for a couple months now & the temp probe loop that goes on the sparkplug is providing accurate temperature numbers. I compared with my heat gun several time & both numbers were always the same. I figured for only $25 the temp readings would be very inaccurate. I screwed up wasting $12 on the common rpm gauge everyone uses. But can use it on my chainsaw or generator. The $25 temp gauge can save a $100 engine & long walk home. Some said their's came broke but might be coz using a no resistor plug or wire . If it came broke u could always get refund/exchange. Gotta be careful not to bend the copper loop too much that goes on the sparkplug. Plus constantly removing sparkplug and/or over torqing it will wear it out since it acts like a copper crush seal washer.

I wish there were more motorized bicycle engine mod videos where they first do a stock engine test run. Then show step by step engine mods & show/compare how each mod affected engine performance. Like how LA Hover did the exhaust pipe power comparison tests. Or for example, install a reed & window piston. Record the test results, then make a window a little bigger and test results compared to previous, smaller window size. Add a better AM carb, then test it with both window piston sizes 🆚 stock carb, etc...Do reed valve type comparison tests...RSE vs G2 vs OZ reed . So you can see exactly what's going on. Smolik performance had a few good old videos doing dyno testing like this. Like adding expansion pipe to bone stock engine & testing results. Then I guess they wanted to keep what engine mods work best a secret. Most videos are now all over the place. With someone drilling dimples everywhere inside an engine & skull 💀 shaped window piston hole claiming it makes the most power. While others claim a turd 💩 shaped window works better than a skull 😂

This was my first experience worth bike motor kits!!! I put the battery where you did, but... unlike your use of a good glue, I used duct tape. Lots and lots of duct tape ha but it was nice learning how to ride in the city traffic on this seeing as it's an "automatic," no pedaling necessary for stop and go traffic with the 48t rear sprocket... But I think I destroyed it, it stalled out a few times like yours, and now won't start. Too hot of riding conditions and my error for 40:1 mix + carb boil = super seizure of engine.

I have a very different suggestion for a project. Supposedly you can get 2 stroke engines to run diesel, well enough to not need to mess about with them too much. My wonderings have got me thinking about running waste motor oil in one of these two stroke bike engines, I would love to see how they compare power and rangewise to the same engine running it's regular 2 stroke gas. It would definitely be a nice way to putt around town for a fella who has a decent storage of waste motor oil. Any input from anyone here?

My Bikeberry kit came in a near paper box all 4 head studs were sticking out of th side of the box. Nuts and bolt bags were not sealed properly and I was missing some hardware because of the 8 holes in the side of the "box" theory cnc made chain tensioner is seriously flawed in its design too it make the clutch bucking bar not reach so he clutch can't disengage and its made so poorly that it pins the chain to the entire drive sprocket. They told me to bend or cut it to make it fit but you literally cannot modify the part to make it work. The entire piece is wrong and it was a total waste of 80 bucks. Total ripoff. They literally just sent me the Amazon kit for 100 more dollars... but it has their stickers on it. They will never get good reviews from me and I won't be getting my next few kits from them. I saved their rude and idiotic suggestions to fix their part I paid for too. Really condescending.. and the clown didn't realize that adding in the tensioner changes the clutch clearance and they had no way of fixing it. He told me to cut the bucking bar down..... it literally needs to be the width of the mounting plate LONGER. The lack of support, bad suggestions and call center being in another country makes them next to useless.

That seems pretty steep considering all the variety available at lower prices while not sacrificing or supplementing certain components to make up for any advantages lost in their opting for the alternative. Yeah my neighbor said he was thinking of buying a 2 stroke off of facebook marketplace. I just told him be aware that sometimes people sell their bikes that have issues because they don't know how to fix them. And that it's an expensive hobby in time and money. I mean I'm about to spend 150 on another 79cc r stroke because phatmoto sucks for replacements. It's not that they don't have replacement parts, they just sell their parts way too expensive. Like their engines, almost 200$ for it just because it says phatmoto on it. Ridiculous. I'm getting a predator 79cc. I was going to take the time to save and get the ghost but after a lot of thought, I'd rather be safe. Speed doesn't have to be everything unless you want to go those lengths to make the bike as safe as possible.

There comes a price tipping point on these motorized bicycles to where you'd be better off just buying a decent used scooter or motorcycle. But if you do it right, you can easily build a reliable 45mph top speed 80+mpg bike for $250 in parts. Compared to an expensive ebike build. Motorized Bicycles are way cheaper faster & more or just as reliable as an ebike. An $800 mid drive ebike kit for example, can be ruined by a few storms, heat ,cold or one wreck . Most new people including myself end up wasting money on parts, trying to figure out what combination work the best.
