Bro thank you so much, I am in central NJ, been wanting to get my f82's crank hub out of the way but have been having a hard time determining where to go for it. I am calling the Auto couture guys monday. Their reputation and price point is perfect. The on other guy i talked to was one of those "I'll do it cheaper" guys and he told me $3200. I'll gladly pay the extra $500 to have it done by the highly experienced professionals with an established good reputation shop. Thank you for this video, have fun with your car👍

Wow! The cracked friction plate is crazy. Very lucky indeed. Along with the parts you had swapped, I also had my valve cover swapped. No labor charge of course. Any reason you didn't do that preventative maintenance? Pretty easy DIY for later, but since they already had mine out, I figure why not.
@Autofreakgarage7 ай бұрын
Mine was inspected and was not needed at this time.
@jasonmjonesuk8 ай бұрын
Given your plans for tuning, I’d say that was a very sensible move! If not tuning *and* you’ve got BMW warranty, I’d say it’s probably not needed
@Autofreakgarage8 ай бұрын
I’ll be going over to things in more detail on the full crank hub video, but I think the condition of my crank hub is a good sign to do it either way.
@jasonmjonesuk8 ай бұрын
@@Autofreakgarage Perhaps, but if it’s not tuned it would totally be covered by warranty and hence it’s BMW’s money and not your own (and quite a decent sum to avoid)
@Autofreakgarage8 ай бұрын
If under warranty, then I would get one’s reasoning. However, most of these cars are out of warranty at this point unless they extended it or have a third party.

Think of it this way, would you rather spend the few thousand to do the crank hub or spend 15-20k+ on a new motor? May not make sense to some, but to me, it sounds like a pretty good deal for peace of mind.

It’s very hard to trust anyone up here in North Jersey, a lot of shady mechanics.
@Autofreakgarage8 ай бұрын
It’s all over. Not just Nj. Thankfully, ACM is one of those shops you can trust and put confidence in that they will do the job properly and exceed your expectations.
@RAElias8 ай бұрын
We’re actually quite blessed with multiple reputable shops in NJ. Bimmerhub in Westfield is really making a name for themselves and owned by a former BMW master tech. Jkingsauto is another very reputable shop in North NJ. Believe it or not, Detailers Domain also does at least suspension related installs. Of course, the Stance Shop in Queens. That’s all just North NJ (and Queens), and we haven’t not even gotten to South NJ (and some central).

There’s a difference between over paying and paying for quality work. You overpaid. With the right tools this can be easily done in your garage. I would also argue that most experienced shops charge less!
@Autofreakgarage8 ай бұрын
Price isn’t the main focus here. 99% of owners would not be comfortable handling this job on their own. Myself included. Going to a competent shop with credibility and the proper experience that I felt could handle the job was my own choice. I expressed several times in this video that it’s not a job I felt comfortable doing on my own and even said it can be absolutely be done for less. But that is up to your own discretion of what you’d like to do. So no, I do not think that I over paid for the quality of work done and peace of mind. This is just the route I decided to take with my own car.
